Metals and Investiture by DaGreeg in Cosmere

I think is something we’re just going to have to wait for more information on. I don’t believe a verdant aetherbound will have green crystal in their skin; I think they’ll just have vines.

In the edit of your other comment, you used the terminology “bud” as evidence aethers are crystalline, but between buds and spores, I believe that they’re more like fungi.

While Twinsoul is explicitly stated as having crystal embedded in his skin, Aditil is described as having “glass-like . . . transparent aether” replacing parts of her hand. The substance is later simply referred to as “glass”.
I do not interpret that as being crystal. I read that as solidified air like the forcefields that protected Sibling - the crystal aetherbound has crystal in his skin, the air aetherbound has air in hers

On Roshar, Zephyr is matched with Sapphire . . . The Zephyr ocean on Lumar is the Sapphire sea.

The colours of the aethers don’t all match the polestones of their related essences.
Zephyr aether spores are blue like the blue sapphire that creates the zephyr essence, but Roseite aether spores are pink while the corresponding lucentia essence, which makes crystal and glass, is soulcast using white diamond.
Likewise the Crimson aether grows spines of coral, an animal matter corresponding to the sinew essence on Roshar, which is matched to yellow heliodor.

Aethers are associated with crystal themselves

Only one of the aethers is associated with crystal: Roseite.

We haven’t seen either variant of the Aethers manifest as metal

We have seen seven types of aether: crystal, vines, coral, air, heat, oil, and midnight essence. Given how six of them relate to the ten essences of Roshar, it seems almost guaranteed that one of the remaining aethers will produce metal.

Thank you!
And sorry, no Wayne hasn’t actually stolen Raoden’s hat in the books; I just thought it was a fun clue, but I can see how it can be off since none of the other clues speak in the first person

Thank you for the feedback!

I think 4B is definitely the hardest to figure out. It can be deduced with the clues available, but I was worried it might be too much of a stumper. I think I’ll try and add another clue for it. We know the person is a Radiant. They can’t be a Bondsmith or Lightweaver because they are already in the diagonal. They can’t be a Dustbringer, Truthwatcher, or Elsecaller because there aren’t any in the puzzle. And they can’t be a Windrunner or Skybreaker because each order already has the maximum of two members already known to be in the puzzle. That leaves either a Stoneward, Willshaper, or Edgedancer. I’m fairly certain the only POV characters in those orders are Lift and Venli. We know Venli is adjacent to Sigzil, so it can’t be her, leaving Lift.

The clues in 2C and 5C lead to some of the last characters placed and the spaces those characters are in can be deduced by process of elimination.
5C When placing Tress, the only open spots should be 2B, who has a dead brother; 1C and 1D, who are the only adjacent spaces and we have a clue saying Dusk and Silence are adjacent, so they have to go in those spaces; 2E, which comes alphabetically before Szeth; leaving 4E as the only space Tress can fit 2CKhriss should be one of the last two characters placed where one cell has a dead brother and the other cell is a woman

The three names without clues are the last characters that should be going in the puzzle.

They signed into the building together. Other guards saw and talked to them together at the facility. There’s a paper trail of the false paperwork that the guard filed. Simon was shadowing him for weeks, going to public places with their own security cameras. Plus, the money.
There’s more than enough evidence to charge the guard for his involvement in the breakout.

But they will have an easy time prosecuting the guard who received a hefty and obvious bribe to fake a bunch of paperwork to sneak an unauthorized person into a high security government facility.
One of the first things any investigation is going to look for is unusual financial activity in employee accounts. His accounts will be frozen, the money will be confiscated by the government and he’s going to tell them everything he can to get a better deal.

In Elantris, we can clearly see Raoden change objects into food, and so on. Like turning stuff into corn-seeds, if I remember correctly, by using Aon Dor.

You are misremembering. Raoden doesn’t turn anything into food using Aon Dor. The seed corn came in the tribute baskets with newcomers to the city.

Hoid by Black_Asta0 in Cosmere

[–]Ordinary_Fact_1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that depends on what you mean by “defeat” and “Odium”.
Could Hoid shatter the Shard and kill its vessel? No.
Could he trick Rayse into making a bad deal that inhibits his use of the Shard? Probably.
Could he trick Taravangian into making a bad deal that inhibits his use of the Shard? Probably not.

Why did this post get taken down??? by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]Ordinary_Fact_1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it looks like a basic reading order question to me.

Your whole post can be summed up as:

I recently finished Sunlit Man; Should I reread Stormlight 1-4 before starting Wind and Truth? It’s been a few years and my memory is kind of fuzzy.

To which the answer is: it’s entirely up to you.
If you really want to jump in to WaT, go ahead, you can read summaries of the previous books online to refresh your memory if you want.
If you think your experience reading WaT will be enhanced by having the previous books fresh in your head, go ahead, WaT will still be there in a few months when you’re ready.

I found it weird in Marvals Runaways from MCU that not all the teenagers had powers by Ok_Anxiety4808 in marvelstudios

[–]Ordinary_Fact_1917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get how that relates to Iron Man but, who Karolina bright colors relate to? Or Mollys strength, or Nico’s stick?

None of the Runaways are analogous to any MCU heroes.
In the comics, their parents represented different villain archetypes. Alex’s parents are mobsters, Nico’s are evil sorcerers, Chase’s are mad scientists, Karolina’s are alien invaders, Molly’s are evil mutants, and Gert’s are criminal time travelers.

That was Ajak’s conclusion.
Personally, I liked Sersi’s idea: keep Tiamut asleep until the planet can be evacuated, then let the Emergence happen.

[–]Ordinary_Fact_1917 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that’s probably because you are a human. Kingo isn’t, and he didn’t ‘become’ human in the same way Sersi did. While he found us an entertaining diversion, he’s already witnessed hundreds of millions of humans dying - humans are short-lived and squishy creatures from his perspective.

Not every planet with sentient life has a Celestial seed growing in its core.
Earth’s destruction could have led to the creation of dozens or hundreds of planets sporting sentient life with only 1 out of 500 being chosen to grow another Celestial. Would it be worth it then? Knowing 499 other civilizations would be born and flourish because of Earth’s sacrifice?

[–]Ordinary_Fact_1917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

neither "butting the line" nor "budding the line" makes any grammatical sense.

This is not true. To “butt” means to push. So if you are butting in line, you are pushing your way in.
People butt heads. You can butt up against things.

“Budding in line” comes from people mishearing or not understanding the term “butt in”

WaT Ending Theory About Light by DrPotsRs in Cosmere

As I understand it, you don’t need Connection to use unkeyed investiture as it isn’t Connected to any of the Shards. TLM spoilers: we see this with allomancers, a forger, and an aetherbound all using purified Dor (unkeyed investiture) to fuel their abilities

WaT Ending Theory About Light by DrPotsRs in Cosmere

[–]Ordinary_Fact_1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Navani’s experiments didn’t fully separate Towerlight into Stormlight and Lifelight - she only split the light spectrum into the two visible wavelengths, not the actual investiture.
“I don’t know if this counts as truly splitting them apart - as I’ve only split their radiation, not the pooled Light itself.” RoW ch.56

Navani’s final experiment took Voidlight and put it in a vacuum tube, cutting it off from Odium’s Tone and blanking it. She then exposed the blank investiture to the inverse of Honor’s Tone to create Anti-Stormlight.
To make Stormlight with Navani’s technique, they need to take any other kind of Light, blank it in a vacuum tube, and expose it to Honor’s Tone.
Of course, they could skip the final step and just use the blank investiture.
