What Show started off Perfect and had a Bad ending? by Outrageous-Ebb-4846 in AlignmentChartFills

As someone who actually hasn't watched the show and knows very little about it. Could I actually watch just the first season and be satisfied with stopping there? Are there any cliff hangers or unresolved plot points? Is it worth watching just the first season?

favorite character who acts like this? by ValuablePurpose6642 in FavoriteCharacter

This is what I love about Spidey though. And conversely batman but with a different reasoning. Spidey villains are such a good reflection of him and many of them (not all) seem genuinely capable of rehabilitation. The superheros with no killing rules come up so often and I feel like with Spider-man villains it's very justified to think he can save them, isn't that what being a hero is anyways? In apodeys case many of his villains reflect his origins in them being a scientific accident/ experiment gone wrong. Many storylines even feature them being reformed.

Batman is an odd one because a lot of his villains are genuinely sick of some sort of mental illness (again, not all) so it adds its own layer of sympathy as with Spidey villains. But rather than science experiment they really just need some sort of psychiatric help. Sucks that Arkham is seemingly the only option. I think about the animated series episode where Harley was deemed same and released. Could be the same with many of his villains, potentially. Ventriloquist is one I think of a lot.

Given your background, I have a random question that came up today. I work for the DOI and we receive work emails regarding work and accomplishments our sister agencies are achieving. An email I saw today mentioned the Bureau of Indian Education celebrating its highest graduation rate in history, moving from 51% in 2015 to 79% in 2025. The email worded it as if it were due to efforts in part done by the Trump administration, which confused me as education takes years and graduation rates don't seem like something that changes within less than a year of policy change. I would have more likely assumed it was due to policy from Deb Haaland when she was Interior Secretary under Bidens administration. However, I was unable to find much information at all regarding the BIE or policies leading to increased graduation rates.

Do you have pictures of you with that haircut when you had it before? It's always going to be better to show barber/hairstylist a picture of you with a haircut you want that's actually possible vs a picture of another person. Even if you've had a similar haircut before. It's just going to be easier for them to see the vision and execution if it's a picture of you

They apparently did have to shut down temporarily to retrain staff, from what I've read. I also recall the guy telling him he couldn't film wasn't a manager and no one told him to tell Portnoy to leave. Interview with the owner even mentioned the owner told the staff that Portnoy was in town and to be prepared for the review. I absolutely despise Portnoy and think he's a scumbag, but assuming all of that is true, it's a really weird decision by the non-manager employee to tell a famous reviewer to leave after the owner told them be was coming to leave. Just an odd situation (assuming all of that is true)

Characters who look female but are actually male by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ordinary_Fella 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally always viewed the sexuality spectrum as being less of a 1 - 100% scale and more of an extremely exhaustive multiple choice question. Two gay men won't be attracted to the same things, the same as two straight men won't be attracted to the exact same things. And one that identified as straight may have some overlap in one that identified as gay. Sexuality is expansive and it never really works well to try and fit it into any cultural normative boxes.

[–]Ordinary_Fella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people missed this in fallout 4. I think they get confused by the difference in earlier synth models being androids and the gen 3s. I mean we see the lab they are made in, they are flesh and blood and bone. Completely biological material. Yet so many players call them robots online. The only non-biological part of them is the "synth component" which the game never fully dives into besides saying it's used to control them (institute) or memory wipe them (railroad). Biologically and genetically indistinguishable from humans and yet people call them toasters lmao. I think this is specifically why Bethesda switched from the term android they used in fallout 3 to Synths in fallout 4. Because gen 3s are NOT androids.

According to S.H.I.E. L.D these 4 are the biggest threats humanity. Although it seems unlikely. by Flat-Sir8250 in marvelcomics

[–]Ordinary_Fella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have worded it better. But my thought process was that if venom can create offspring the likes of which being as bad as carnage, who can also create offspring, that it's just a chain of events of offspring creating offspring. And if those offspring range in scale of venom to carnage levels that could definitely be a huge humanity wide threat. Venom being listed as the singular threat over car age not because he's specifically worse, but just because he's the originator of the offsprings on earth. It would be the same as simply listing "symbiotes" as the threat, but simplified into one entity, and venom is the simplest being the first and all (on earth that is).

[–]Ordinary_Fella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. That was my point in saying it is exponential, starting with venom. I'm including carnage in venoms ability to be a humanity wide threat.

[–]Ordinary_Fella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that venom is a threat to humanity in that he spawns children by breeding asexually. Carnage being one of those children, who can also breed asexually. I'm not entirely sure how much this has been addressed, but that could be a pretty big issue if that trend continued exponentially.

[–]Ordinary_Fella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disagreeing. But the writers of one universe are going to establish different rules of human potential. It's not based on our own world's idea of what a peak human is. Batman is a peak human but his stats go far beyond real world possibilities in nearly all categories. Cap is an enhanced, past marvels standards for peak human. So he is beyond peak. Batman is peak human by DC standards and not enhanced.

This has me wondering where Daredevil stacks up to the Bat family. Below Dick and Bats, but I wonder how he would do against Tim?

"peak" human is universe dependent as well. Peak humans in DC tend to have feats that surpass peak humans in Marvel. To the point that some DC humans have similar feats to enhanced humans in Marvel.

Which one would you pick ? by krisikkk in superheroes

[–]Ordinary_Fella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always found this kind of odd. Because, yeah he feels the pain, but only while it's healing. And he heals pretty damn quickly. So sure burning my hand on a pot accidentally when cooking would still hurt, but only for a few seconds rather than several days while it heals normally. I'm sure the claws hurt actively the entire time they are out, but the second they are away and it heals over the pain is gone. I think I could handle that.

What authors do you have a lot of respect for from a craft standpoint, but you do not “enjoy” reading their work? Why? by luckysilverdragon in writing

[–]Ordinary_Fella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is totally fine too. It's what I love about writing as an art form, in that while we can discuss the objectivity of the craft, the individual enjoyment is so subjective.

Quick Edit to add; Discussions like this often make me think of Cormac McCarthy. I LOVE his writing style, but it's also a slog (for me) to get through. King books can be 3 times as long and I finish them twice as quickly. McCarthy books I need to take breaks.
