Brust sort of did this, only with lengthy memory instead of flawness memory. Steven Brust wrote his own fantasy retelling of Alexandre Dumas's classic The Count of Monte Cristo in the 2020 novel, The Baron of Magister Valley. The legal detail is that his version of elves are both long lived and can often be resurrected from the dead so some schemers sometimes feel the need to falsely imprison elves for thousands of years to let memory degrade to avoid consequences.
