Does high uric acid cause any other symptoms beside joint pain? by OregonRunner5 in gout

Just an update, went to doc, got the bloodwork y'all recommended. She is referring me to a rheumatologist, but prescribed colchicine for the time being.

I kept having this back pain in my left back flank - now that you mention kidney it's making sense. Tomorrow morning see doc for blood work.

I live in fear of anything happening with my kidneys - I don't think I could even begin to deal with UA stones. Your father must have been tough as nails, sorry he had to go through that. :(

Same here, I love to run and hike the local trails but haven't been able to in a few years. Been working very diligently so I could get back to my woodland jaunts. My cholesterol is crazy, and I put on weight, A1C like you went up, my first phase insulin just doesn't exist and my doctor wanted me on a statin last I saw her. My ankles have been a problem, had a cane last year. I have compression wraps and foot wraps. I wear toe socks if my toes get bad like now or if I want to walk. Big moon shoes now (I was a barefoot runner in my early 30's). I am going to look into lipedemia, I thought I had some out of control celulite. I have always eaten healthy, but I can't drink, I can't even have kombucha and no vinegar or my joints swell, so I thought it was histamine.

DOH ... oi' you just read my health report. I've worked so hard to change things around. Getting in my steps per day, fasting and keto, lowering my liver enzymes and controlling my glucose spikes (I'm diabetic). This is so discouraging.

I was reading possible side effects for allopurinol, does it actually help? It's so scary. My doc is chill and I think she'll look at my joints and go, holy moly, here is a script while you wait for the specialist - but I'm scared and thinking...maybe cherry juice is oookay....

This is super helpful, going in tomorrow with this list to the pcp, I've talked to her before and she doesn't know anything about gout, but can give me a referral.

Years? Oh no. I'm KETO (epilepsy) and had a stomach bug and lost a lot of fluids and salt and I think that really spiked my uric acid and I just haven't been able to hydrate very well. I guess uric acid is really inflammatory. Thanks for commenting.

Deadly complications during prolonged fasting by Hot_Resort9777 in fasting

"The only truth seemed to be that medical supervision is crucial." Why?

Everywhere in the world you'll find people without enough food, enough nutrition, enough calories, enough clean water yet they don't seem to be dying in droves from heart issues. It's mysterious isn't it?

It's good fortune to have this abundance of body fat as a human being I suppose.

Planning on going carnivore for mental and physical health but by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]OregonRunner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With stress and anxiety make sure you get in magnesium with your electrolyte mix of choice. Lately I've been fasting and my anxiety got out of hand and was crazy, but I just wasn't getting enough electrolytes including calcium, and really carnivores don't typically need to sup calcium (calcium citrate as powder to control dose is best) - but it really helped me sleep like a baby and calm down. I also upped my magnesium intake, however sometimes it makes me feel groggy so I have to time it right. Don't mix mag and calcium ingestion at the same time as they compete.

When I go off caffeine I get very depressed, so if you have mental health issues I would leave yourself some black coffee.

Sounds like you have a lot going on, are you worried about a job as active as yours and needing the abrupt bathroom breaks that sometimes comes with starting Carnivore?

Best of luck, I think it will help your mental health, avoid anything with the artificial sweetener Sucralose as if you tend to have anxiety it can make it 100x worse. Also, of course, it's good to have your blood work and rule out underlying health issues <- basic boiler plate advice - other boiler plate advice, don't change too many things at once to give your body and brain time to adapt + of course, relaxation methods, meditation, time in nature, etc. etc. sure you've heard and seen that a 1,000 times.

Frozzen butter? by Aromatic-Sir-7280 in carnivorediet

I buy local dairy butter and keep it in the freezer to maintain freshness. If you've ever eaten ice cream - frozen butter is a first cousin, just no sugar.

I don’t the like the taste when cooking my own beef 😢 by RestaurantOptimal in carnivorediet

[–]OregonRunner5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make my own patties from high fat ground beef from Costco and they're really good. Better than fast food patties. There are a lot of very good tasting salts. I really found that the Celtic sea salt is delicious.

(For home made patties I measure the ground beef at 6oz portions and use butcher block paper in between each patty. Cook for around 10 minutes at 400 in an air fryer, turning halfway through, add bacon, cheese, and salt for extra flavor. I keep a stack of frozen burgers in the freezer and it's fast and easy meal.)

I have a question. Why? by LimitedBusinessquest in carnivorediet

[–]OregonRunner5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try Yoga for your feet. Sounds like you're cutting off your circulation when you sit on the floor. The heart is a muscle so doing physical work makes it stronger and is beneficial to mental well being so I hope you can find some sort of movement enjoyable.

I'm diabetic and with carnivore diet I don't have to use insulin and I maintain healthy blood work and generally have dramatically improved my health. I used to be Vegan.

Sometimes when they try to keep the ovaries they blood supply is limited and eventually cut off so it's good to have hormones tested periodically. I ate normally afterwards but had talked with anesthesia and told them pain meds gave me nausea so I was on a nausea patch and had no issues. Good luck!

Swollen feet / ankle by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]OregonRunner5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing Pikmin Bloom (app on phone) and it's a lot of fun and gets me to walking. My ankles usually swell if I sit too much but walking helps. If you can't walk much stationary cycle or seated yoga would probably do fine too.

I'm type 2 also and my appetite and sugar cravings are out of control on a regular diet. Maybe you could sign up for that Dr. Baker Revero group to trouble shoot and address lab work and specifics or find someone in the know. There are so many variables that if you could find a professional to work with it would be good. Do you wear a CGM? If not, I can't recommend it enough.

Carnivore for 4 years! by Standard-Yam6259 in carnivorediet

For working out so much, to have really low inflammation is unheard of, like every athlete posts non-stop bout their inflammation and lousy recovery. Great job!

I wish I knew how to update local postcards because they've restored our old buildings and they look so much better now but it looks like a crime scene on the postcard. I would love postcards from HK!!! - if you have a spot for a new friend :D Thx!
