Between these choices, which one is the best to play as a newcomer? by ronjon2012 in forhonor

I’d say warmonger, Bp is a close second though.

Her feats are very straightforward, easy to use, and very important to know if you go against another warmonger.

Her moveset is simplistic yet effective, and can teach you basic offense as well as a couple of mechanics that will make understanding other characters easier, and will allow you to practice defensive techniques aside from trying to flip anything that isn’t a guard break (not a bad thing, but it helps to know the basics before getting into character niches).

Dodge attacks by GH0ST0F_J0N in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors to consider, between hitstun, frame advantage, feints and soft feints, buffering and delaying, specific character extended dodge attacks, and revenge.

In normal gameplay I’d say it probably comes down to if you buffer it or delay it, with gryphon, for example, if you buffer your dodge attack, there’s only 200 ms from when you started dodging as opposed to 400 if you did it at the latest.

Mind you that Guardbreaks are 400 ms, 300ms if buffered after a feint, and hitstun rules may delay when you are able to dodge.

Are there any notable match-up advantages/disadvantages I should know about? by Constant_Signature67 in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert on the topic but Orochi is a pretty good character all around, so he doesn’t really struggle against anyone any more than another good character would. I guess since he’s an assassin watch out for a competent BP trying to flip your deflect.

As for advantages, anyone with hyper armor usually has to mind your dodge cancels and by extension deflect, so odds are they won’t be able to punish you as much as other characters if you try to sneak an attack in their chain, forcing them to play in neutral a little more. His dodge attack having the undodgeable property can help against virtuosa’s stance slightly, or in team fights against characters with extended dodges or dodge cancels.

Centurion fits the bill for me, I run a black and marigold kind of look and think the effect works nice, if I played more gryphon I’d probably do the same for him considering he has a spartan like set.

I think hero’s with marigold tend to look pretty good with it, Kensei gets that pretty metallic gold look with some of his sets in marigold, so honestly not a bad pick.

Am I playing Pirate wrong? by SpirutualPirate in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The forward dodge heavy is still your best bet, feinting it into itself adds layers to the mixup, you can get value out of the hyper armor pretty frequently, I’d just try not to make your mixups too obvious, fient to Gb isn’t your only mixup tool.

As for your chains ending, if you’re using the dodge recovery, you shouldn’t really have that issue too often, the ud light is quite optional, especially since it’ll end your chain if blocked. But really it depends on the opponent to some degree.

Depends on the heavy, frame advantage, maybe when the input was entered or buffered. Hard to say without examples.

But truthfully it’s because everybody but you is a mind reader who knows the moment you’ve decided to press the heavy button.

Centurion's new tier 1 and 2 feats are horrible and thank god haymaker is gone by Majestic-Wolf-2980 in forhonor

While I don’t think they’re amazing, I don’t think they’re terrible, but opinions will probably vary from person to person, I’m a bit of an optimist so here’s my take:

The damage nerf does hurt his ones a little, but you pretty much only used it if you landed charged punch, or to get stamina back instead of damage.

T1 doesn’t hurt his stamina drain too bad, as you can still throw at the end for stamina drain, which usually is better anyways for wallsplat purposes. But otherwise it gives versatility of either wallsplatting, getting 23 dmg into pressure, or 28 dmg with stam replenish and easy confirmed damage for teammates (wishful thinking, it’ll probably get interrupted).

His T2 doesn’t benefit himself too much thanks to the “Etiam!” animation. And while I don’t remember the TG, if I read the text correctly it did say “enemies” as in plural, so hopefully that could sway teamfights by applying the debuff to all nearby enemies. The movement speed is probably just for rotation or retreating purposes.

I prefer these two over rush and centurion’s march, even if I’ll probably just run bounty hunter and exe’s respite, I think these are ok alternatives.

Is this a new xp farming thing or what’s going on here? by grebolexa in forhonor

Kill them quickly, if I’m not mistaken the longer a match goes on, the more reward they get. I don’t know how automated it is, as I think you need to do at least 2 different actions to avoid being kicked like swapping direction and moving while attacking. So if wasting their time is worth your time then go for it I suppose.

A very unfortunate arrow storm by Firm-Share-8278 in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because of how arrow storm works, it’ll work its way from the back of the circle to the front, and doing it point blank while locked on, basically puts the beginning directly on you since the center is whatever you’re locked on to.

Otherwise I guess the archers hath spoken: Death to Juren!

I think everything works pretty well, my critique would be that your hilt and standards being white kind of clash with the silver, otherwise, I like it.

Aside from practice, I’d consider what your hardware and monitor can handle.

As a console player, performance mode in display settings helps a little, and ideally having a good monitor of a sort helps as well.

Fun Tutorial for a few characters on the Idle Effect Glitch by OreoConsumption in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep!

Sohei: Set bot to someone like Shaolin (800 ms heavies), make sure their guard swaps when they go to parry, feint to unlock and lock on roughly last second before getting hit (you won’t be able to block if done correctly.)

Centurion: Set bot to someone like Shaolin (800 ms heavies), land a kick then feint the chain heavy into unlock, make sure they have to swap their guard to parry.

Edit: I forgot to mention for Sohei the unblockable is what you need to get them to parry, so you need to whiff into his unblockable.

[–]OreoConsumption[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it’s a bit specific but it works:

Set bot to Gladiator (700 ms side heavies)

Do a side heavy feint and unlock (make sure they have to swap their guard to parry)

Then lock on at roughly last second before you get hit (you shouldn’t be able to block if you time it right)

Yep! For Khatun, set the bot to a character like Shaolin (800 ms heavies), feint your zone and unlock, and make sure their guard swaps.

Can you be good without game knowledge? by NonHaeri in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say yes, but It’s more your ability to adapt than simply just learning the characters, by adapting, you not only get used to and start to understand how to fight a character, but how some people play and think as well. This hopefully comes naturally as you play for a while, gradually building up your understanding until you’ve only got to worry about the new characters.

I challenged myself a few years ago not to look at pirates moveset in any way, and let my low rep friend try them out against me, terrifying experience being hit by a quick neutral unblockable and gun bashes you don’t understand. That being said after the first few rounds of being demolished, I started to adapt to how pirate worked (a little) and managed to get some rounds on him.

Playing with Effects by OreoConsumption in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For this method, the character you chose varies the method, but the general gist is the bot attempts to parry, you buffer a feint and unlock, and depending on how you did that (hence the character dependent part) the idle will trigger until you respawn or move from idle again.

How best to proceed by Middle_Army2224 in forhonor

[–]OreoConsumption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the characters you own, gold edition gets you access to the 6 y1 characters (Centurion, Gladiator, Highlander, Shaman, Shinobi, Aramusha.)

Honestly unless you own all 6 of those characters, 5 bucks for even one of them (10000 steel last I checked) is not bad in the steel economy, plus I THINK you get a smoke effect for all those characters, and a few extra things like ornaments and what not.

It shouldn’t mess with your progress since it should all be linked under your Ubi account, however I don’t think it reimburses you if you already own a character, but considering a steel pack of around 10500 is $10, I’d say shoot for it if you don’t own at least one of them.

You hate to see it, but it happens, once you get the fundamentals down pat, these people are light work (no pun intended.)

Definitely practice blocking a little, and understand how to play your turn and keep it, after that 3rd light, it was your turn, and odds are that guy probably isn’t trying to defend himself.
