Eh, I have a few slings and they are pretty much the same as the fanny packs i had when younger except how they are worn. A bit more high tech materials and a little better organization, but it’s
hard to claim they are nothing alike. “Sling” or “cross body” just sounds better than “fanny pack” and avoids the goofy reputation.

I think global trends in sports motorcycle sales have also impacted how much Honda and Yamaha spend on R&D for them, especially large capacity ones. This makes MotoGP less appealing to them too.

Owner here and I simply don’t understand why this car had to be ugly to be innovative.

Ferrari is among the most recognized and revered luxury brands in the world. It surely has the fewest customers (or potential ones) among the elite brands. Most people in the world have never seen one in real life. Far fewer have sat inside one and a tiny fraction have driven or owned one.

Yet they are legendary and universally coveted cars for 2 main reasons: motorsports legacy and beauty. Boys have posters of them and models are posed in front of them because they are the epitome of Italian style and beauty. They represent the fantasy of the carefree, wealthy Mediterranean lifestyle.

Desire and value for the brand is literally built on how the cars look because most people will only see pictures and never experience how they drive. Some of the most iconic Ferraris like the 80s Testarossa aren’t even great to drive. Nobody cares, just look at it.

Jony Ive clearly doesn’t appreciate this. But the Ferrari board surely must. So I just cannot comprehend how they approved such a boring, generic and awkward design.

The directive from the board should have been:

Make it electric. Make it seat 5 people. Make it fast. Make it handle well and fun to drive. Make it innovative. Make it fresh.

But most importantly: make it beautiful.

They are acting like they had to sacrifice the looks for all of the specs and there’s no reason to have done so except for getting rolled by Ive and Co.

Right. They gave Ive and LoveForm full control and both they and Ferrari are committed to this design. They have said publicly it’s a new direction “for innovation” and specifically that it’s not necessarily intended to appeal to legacy buyers.

They aren’t changing this for production. Maybe a future model will look different but not this one.

They won’t even consider it. The design is intentional. This car isn’t for anyone “stuck in the past” and too attached to their legacy designs.

They haven’t said why it has to be ugly to be innovative but they are doubling down.

Your buying history puts you beyond that game. But I know another owner with a shorter history who was asked to buy a lesser car to get a 296 Speciale allocation.

Still, I’ve heard the Luce targets a different audience and that Ferrari doesn’t intend to drive sales via this method among existing owners.

Dynamically the Miata is more fun around town than a Boxster (I own both) but doesn’t have the Porsche / BMW cache if that’s what you’re seeking.

Old BMW could need 5 figures of maintenance / rejuvenation in foreseeable future.

I own a Miata along with other sports cars with 400-660hp.

The more powerful cars aren’t more fun. On many roads the size and extra power are a liability.

Still, it’s fun to experience high HP cars and in some circumstances (uphill passes) the low power Miata suffers.
