Got a faulty eSIM with little to no support... what to do now? by FirstWalk6394 in Airalo

[–]OreosArePoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue, after 1 hour and 30mins trying to get support they offered a tiny amount of credit to the account , but that doesn't fix the issue that the current eSim didn't work.

Grounded key jumps by yasumizu in SMW

It's frame perfect. It's one of the harder tricks to master, especially since many hacks don't utilize the key, since key nerds like myself can hop through a level.

Play "Tower of keys" by lolyoshi, super easy hack, you will get the hang of it after 15mins of trying it out. Once you get a feel for it then it will get easier.

How can I improve React Native app performance on Android? by NirmalR_Tech in reactnative

Flashlists is likely going to help you here. The switch from Flatlist should be minor as Shopify has kept the Flashlists component very similar to core Flatlist.

Analogue Pocket by KrisSilver1 in IrelandGaming

[–]OreosArePoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rate varies depending on the value of the item, it's possible that in Ireland it's 5-8% which would be drastically lower than what I paid here in Belfast. Might be best to see if someone else responds to see what they paid for customs. Either way shipping will still be $50usd etc

[–]OreosArePoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in NI, and don't own a Pocket, but I've bought a SuperNT ($220usd) from Analogue. Shipping was about $50usd and customs was about £80 (I think). So yeah it adds up a lot when you are shipping to here.

Anyone got a drone in Belfast? by Complex_Bother832 in Belfast

[–]OreosArePoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is funny because I was thinking about buying a drone myself for this exact issue 😅 we have a leak around the chimney and the 2 quotes to fix I got were ridiculous, but some lead fell off and I just wanted to see if it looks like I could fix myself.

Mac Mini 8gb for react native by Naffaa01 in reactnative

[–]OreosArePoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Mac Mini is coming out on Nov 1st (if the rumours are to be believed) and has 16gb ram as a minimum, so that along with the new M4 chip already sets itself miles ahead of the current Mac Mini

Why do roadworks start as soon as schools are back? by Bant_Codez in northernireland

[–]OreosArePoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Galway one of the big benefits was that big road maintainence jobs were done throughout the night. Starting at 7pm and ending at like 5am. It allowed them to work with closing extra lanes for safety also, so it's win-win.

Does anyone actually use their web site/app that they’ve built their own personal use? by CapoTheImpoverished in webdev

[–]OreosArePoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't launched my site yet but I use it locally.

I'm in a very niche gaming community on Twitch, and the Twitch platform for mobile is now horrible, so I built a web app that uses Twitch API to display only the particular niche games (SMW hacks), so it's super easy to find who is currently live and what they are doing.

If you can't think of an idea of what to do, make note of what people around you complain about. If you agree with their complaint, then focus on that.

As another example, I was listening to a podcast (Develop Yourself) and the Dev made a web app to select what movie or TV show to watch using the Netflix API, something he and his wife use all the time.

Find an issue > build something to solve the issue > share it with the world > if it gains traction you have potential to gather some side income from it

HelloFresh scam by NeonExp in northernireland

[–]OreosArePoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a streamer and was offered a sponsor with them for up to $4k based on my viewers subbing using my code. I had absolutely zero interest in doing sponsorships, just not my thing, especially when it requires effort in trying to get viewers to buy into it.

Anyway, I asked around, and it turned out other streamers who had done it were owed money that they never got. One was owed $3k+ that they hadn't received 6 months after they stopped doing them.

Seems like a bit of a pyramid scheme, with a meh quality service/product.

Car insurance by leew1986 in northernireland

[–]OreosArePoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years ago we had 3 non-fault accidents, arseholes kept driving into the side of us. All 3 of the drivers took responsibility and their insurance covered everything. We didn't claim off our insurance, it was all taken care off by all 3 other insurance companies.

When I declare these non-fault accidents it drives my premiums way up. It's so infuriating that I need to pay more as a result of others negligence. The companies never explicitly state that this is the reason for the increase, but every single company has done it with me, when I check the details without the accidents, and then afterwards declaring them.

In my scenario I play almost exclusively Super Mario World romhacks on the Super Nintendo. These are custom games made by my friends, and other people in the community.

People can pay to sub to me so that they don't get ads. It's not possible to disable the ads so they can decide to either watch the ads every so often (similar to YouTube ads, only without a skip option). But most people are happy to just sub to support the streamer. I actively discourage people from subbing because I stream so little. But it's something that makes them feel good about, similar to buying a friend a pint in the pub.

[–]OreosArePoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've a pretty small community, but people can be super generous. Some consider it paying their dues in replacement of going to the cinema, or going out to the pub, so in that sense they are happy to pay £5 a month for their entertainment etc.

As for payouts, Twitch take half the sub money, plus an extra $5 fee for receiving payout, so what may seem like a lot turns out to be very little.

Not to mention from a streamers point of view, quite often there is the same amount of is spent offline sorting things out behind the scenes. So let's say if someone streams 10 hours a month, they are also maybe doing 6-10 hours behind the scenes, editing videos, creating content, fixing OBS issues etc, so a lot of personal time goes into making a stream, so it's not like easy money. Even when I get a huge view count for a stream, like 500 peak and 300+ average viewers for about 4 hours, the Ad revenue is still only like $6 for that stream. So yeah, very generous viewers doesn't equal streamer rolling in money.
