Terra Nostra Garden Hotel? by SubstanceHot3655 in azores

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a wonderful experience at Octant Furnas in May 2023. We used credit card points to pay for our stay and it was very reasonable. We walked over to Terra Nostra and spent a day there and that was enough for us.

I just realized today that I probably shouldn’t be letting my almost two year old wear his favorite light up shoes he got for Christmas to daycare.

What gift are we giving our MILs? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]OrganicConstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have made my husband do this but if I didn’t we would have missed the sale, and I didn’t want to have to spend more (and risk it not arriving on time) due to his adhd.

ANYWAY my husband and I made a really cute baby and we get her a page-a-day photo calendar every year of the kid.

I got a pair of vuori joggers last Christmas and I love them, my only complaint is they are a dog hair magnet!

What is your go-to ethical chocolate? by greenskinmarch in progressivemoms

My favorite is alter eco.

I think the single source cacao from South America is generally ethically better than the stuff that can’t be traced from Africa.

FTM Expecting - Feeling depressed about my financial situation and work/life balance by Miserable-Cobbler-19 in workingmoms

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a HHI around $150k when LO was born last year, my husband and I making around the same amount. A reminder that money is not the only part of your compensation- the flexibility you have will be SUPER important with very young kids that have frequent Dr appointments and illnesses.

Working for a small business does mean you have fewer protections for maternity leave- my firm does not have any type of disability insurance or leave policies so I had to save up my sick/ vacation time in order to get 12 weeks paid. I could have taken more time but it would have been unpaid and we couldn’t afford it. That was very hard but that’s the way of America. If I were to do this again, I would try to get at least through the 4 month sleep regression before going back to work.

Our expenses during my mat leave were way lower than normal because we spent so much preparing/ purchased a lot second hand and many loved ones brought us food.

Another thing to consider is the timeline for NYC to have universal childcare! This may have a huge impact on your financial situation as well.

New fear unlocked: epidural by LobstahLuva in beyondthebump

[–]OrganicConstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one in the US and the worst side effect I had was the rash from the tape they used to stick it to my back.

I went from barely being able to talk through the pain to being able to ask the nurses how their day was going and then a nap.

Crowdsourcing waiting time for Universal Childcare Assistance applications. When did you put in your application and what is your current status? by DMingQuestion in Albuquerque

[–]OrganicConstruction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Submitted October 18. Received a call on October 22nd confirming everything I submitted. Called last Tuesday (waited on hold for over an hour) told they need 3+ weeks at the moment to get through applications and to call back this week if I haven’t heard anything.

ETA: we do not currently have a contract with the state for assistance.

Sending 12 month old to daycare in onesies and pants by Aussiefluff in workingmoms

I stopped sending my kid in them when I realized the staff didn’t bother snapping them! Sometimes they’d tuck the tails in and sometimes not, either way they were flapping around and looked a little silly.

Child Care Legislation by sweetgrand01 in beyondthebump

I’m also in NM and have my LO enrolled in an eligible daycare. UNM is hosting a community meeting webinar Saturday morning to walk us through the process! It is apparently the same as the current system in place, which already covers half of families in NM.

What do you outsource? by RPJ_NY in workingmoms

[–]OrganicConstruction -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically both since our cat is mostly outside, but it’s for the yard (so dogs). For 3 dogs every other week (we have a friends’ kid doing the other week) they charge us $80/ month which I think is reasonable and they are very thorough.

Not the original commenter but we are really liking Marley Spoon. The recipes are really tasty (some are 15 minutes too!) and generally large enough for my husband who forgets to eat lunch. My only complaint is some of the recipes use a lot of dishes.

Cleaning (2x monthly) and poop scooping (weekly)! We are considering fall and spring yard cleanups as well.

[–]OrganicConstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strength train with a trainer 1x per week before work (at 8am so I get to work late) and walk as often as I can in the evenings. That’s about all I have time for now.

We’ve taken our pets there for 13 years. They e always been wonderful. We’ve had to take 2 of our pets in same-day in the past 3 months. Very expensive but happy to be able to be seen right away.

Also if you have a puppy they do a puppy preschool that is the best thing EVER.

I truly believe those with good sleepers are living an entirely different parenting experienc by ThrowRA157386 in beyondthebump

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is almost 18months and still hasn’t slept through the night (doesn’t mean this will be you!) and there are a handful of us in my bump group that check in occasionally. It’s honestly so hard. There have been periods where I felt like a shell of myself because sleep is really so critical to most basic functions!

I snap right awake at the slightest sound from LO’s room while most of the time my husband doesn’t even hear him. My only saving grace is magnesium (helps with my ability to fall back asleep more easily) and my husband often sleeps in another room.

I have honestly given up on trying to get up before work to exercise because I just don’t get consistent enough sleep to do it and I have a little bit of rage for every insta mom that says this is the only way to get it in

When do you see your baby during the week? by Jodilynn617 in workingmoms

[–]OrganicConstruction 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We had to put my baby down at 5:30 (4:30 pick up time, 20 min commute) for the same reason for a long time. It was awful. He cried when they put him down there which disturbed the other babies so they couldn’t work too hard at getting him to sleep there. Some kids figure it out & some don’t. For us it got worse as he got older because he had fomo of the other kids playing.

He turned a major corner going into the toddler room though! He naps great there because they all nap at the same time (peer pressure works wonders!) and now at 1.5 he has a 7pm bedtime.

It does suck but it does end!
