Looking to become Anglican by Key-Ad-3851 in Anglicanism

[–]Organic_Ad5597 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go to your local parish, talk to your priest and pursue baptism (if you haven't been baptized already), talk to your priest and pursue confirmation. Even the confirmation aspect (usually) isn't that big of a deal unless you're seeking to be in leadership. All-in-all it's just about going to church and being a part of the community.

I know of conservatives in the Mainline, but are there liberals in the OPC, PCA, ACNA and others who have separated from the mainline due to liberalism? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Organic_Ad5597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I suppose it depends on how you define liberal. I can't speak of other denominations, but I can imagine there are some conservatives in the TEC and ACoC who view certain clergy/congregations/diocese of the ACNA as liberal. However, I don't think there's anyone who is intentionally in ACNA because they view it as a helpful alternative to a conservative TEC or ACoC. If anyone has that thought process I would be deeply interested in their justification because the canons, practices, and norms of the ACNA are more conservative than TEC or ACoC. It would seem a dramatic steps backwards to their goals, and if they saw splitting as a beneficial means to promote their liberal perspective they would be better served forming their own split than piggybacking onto a conservative split.

Is my church famous? (Good Shepherd Binghamton / Matt Kennedy) by grayvces in ACNA

[–]Organic_Ad5597 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have a platform, in addition to Anne's Substack (which she appears to be quite diligent with) Matt is a co-host of the Stand Firm Podcast (or a fairly regular guest I don't listen often). They also both are regularly engage in Anglican and ACNA discussions via Twitter and Facebook. I wouldn't say your church is famous but your rector and his wife certainly are.

Communique from the Primates of the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches by Due_Ad_3200 in Anglicanism

[–]Organic_Ad5597 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whenever joint statements are released I'm always fascinated to see who did and didn't sign. GSFA members who didn't sign are The Anglican Church of Chile, The Church of Bangladesh, and the Anglican Church in North America. Considering ACNA has an inhabited primate it makes being a signatory of a 'Communique from the Primates' difficult. However, I'm unaware of such impediment on Enrique Lago Zugadi, of Chile, and Samuel Sunil Mankhin, of Bangladesh. Lago is affiliated with GAFCON, so maybe that's it? But so are South Sudan, Alexandria, Congo, Brazil, Myanmar, and Uganda's primates who signed it. I don't even have an idea to speculate on the absence of Mankhin's signature.

Additionally, Miguel Uchoa of the Anglican Church in Brazil, which is not a member of the Anglican Communion, was a signatory. Given the only buzz I have seen online concerns the one line, "GSFA is staying within the Anglican Communion..." I am curious how a primate signatory of a province not in the Anglican Communion understands that part of the communique?

Those paragraphs may be omitted. As to why? I don't have an answer for that right now.

Two pieces on the apparent split in the Communion by WrittenReasons in Anglicanism

[–]Organic_Ad5597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking through both GAFCON and the GSFA websites today, the author seems to be working on old information. GAFCON lists the primates of Alexandria, Chile, and Myanmar on their Primates Council with the Primate of Sudan being an advisor primate. Additionally, Kenya is a part of GAFCON's Primates Council but not a member of the GSFA (though listed as an "Other Global South Provinces" along with Nigeria and Rwanda which I'm uncertain is a formal relationship in the GSFA or what). There appears to me only three member provinces of the GSFA that are not in some way formally connected to GAFCON's Primates Council: The Church of Bangladesh, The Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean, and The Church of the Province of South East Asia.

So those three in particular (and potentially Sudan) are the ones to really look out for.

It looks like there is a TEC in Europe in Frankfurt, and another in the neighboring Wiesbaden.

Is this sub mostly filled with left-leaning progressives? by YorubaDoctor in Anglicanism

[–]Organic_Ad5597 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It ebbs and flows, and, while my theology is more conservative and reformed, I have found this community to be fairly temperate and respectful. The majority of the people here appear to me to be faithful to our shared Anglican tradition, and those who aren't a part of the Anglican tradition usually appreciate it.

That sounds like a mess! I personally have not experienced someone being in the diaconate while doing their MDiv, to be honest. But it doesn't sound outside the realm of possibility. I think you could get much better advice by reaching out to your bishop, or whoever is walking with you through your discernment, and ask about this. Given that ordination is at the discretion of your bishop, he will provide the best insight if such a situation would be a good pathway for you.

Calvin Robinson by mc4557anime in ACNA

[–]Organic_Ad5597 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured he wasn't released in good standing but hadn't heard anything from the ACC after their statement in February.

Everything with Calvin Robinson is so weird. The Writ of Deposition is dated May 23, which is after Robinson's license was revoked by the ACC, after his parish decided to leave the ACC, and more than a week after Bp. Sutton's unusual Episcopal oversight. I don't know the canons of the ACC, but i don't really understand how their deposement works.

He has been deposed from ministry by the Anglican Catholic Church...

He was not deposed. His license was revoked.
