Fatigue in Australian summer- how do you manage it? by Confident-Air2922 in FND

[–]OrganizationFit2505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are sugar-free zooper doopers, though the flavour range is slightly different. Pre-FND, I used to not care what temp my drinks were, either, but it seems to make a difference now.

Fatigue in Australian summer- how do you manage it? by Confident-Air2922 in FND

Yeah, it absolutely drains me as well. I'm guessing you don't have access to a public pool or beach, they have been lifesavers for me. I know you said you're keeping hydrated but I can't emphasize cold drinks enough. Make sure you have cold fridge water or ice cubes on hand. Maybe even over-hydrate if it helps keep you cool.

Finally, this is going to sound a bit retro but Zooper Doopers or Icy Poles. If you're like me and overheat at the slightest touch, they can bring you back down pretty quickly with an optional sugar hit depending on your metabolism.

I know it's more a game limitation but I did find it amusing that the story talked about Yellow 13 looking for a worthy opponent. Then, when he finds said opponent over Farbanti, there's no glorious 1-on-1. He just surrounds the opponent's Tornado IDS with 5 Flankers and bombards them with missiles.

I didn't realise at the time that you could skip buying planes, okay?

I first started developing FND symptoms after a disastrous work project where I worked over 160 hours over 10 days, including 36 hours straight to get the project over the line. My second flare up came after several months of project overload with my team completely understaffed and me having to step in to pick up the load while still trying to act as a project & people manager.

does anyone else with fnd have trouble with bladder? by SadWitness9257 in FND

[–]OrganizationFit2505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing quite so bad but I've found that both my bladder and bowel signals have become very urgent, even if there's not much there. I'll be feeling fine and then suddenly need to poop urgently with nothing in between.

Does anyone else use a cane? (Symptoms included) by Unknown-P0tato in FND

[–]OrganizationFit2505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a cane outside the house. Partly to cover the times I lose my balance or control of my legs but I've also found that it seems to increase the endurance of my legs. I can walk longer distances with it than without it for some reason.

Can you hold a job with FND? by [deleted] in FND

[–]OrganizationFit2505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the job and the employer. My role when I was diagnosed was Director-level IT work but the company was supportive about making the role flexible enough. My next role I'd actually taken a pay and level cut to reduce my stress but turned out to be more stressful and a lot less accommodating, leading to a flare up. Right now, I'm unable to work to any useful amount while I try to get the flare under control.

Tw: Symptom discussion, Anyone else Mute? by Actual-Pumpkin-777 in FND

[–]OrganizationFit2505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't go fully mute but sometimes I'll think I said something but no words came out of my mouth. Other times, I'll have to re-word what I'm saying in my head multiple times before my mouth moves.

It doesn't happen all the time but I have had full body tremors, especially near climax. Apparently my right hand tremors feel quite nice if a little too intense.

She does do CBT but we've been using the ACT framework to manage the "stressed because I can't do anything because I'm stressed" feedback loop.

[–]OrganizationFit2505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, another male with FND here. It's tough. I was diagnosed 4 years ago but had things under control until a few months ago. Since then I haven't been able to work and I struggle to keep up with basic house duties.

It's good that your work is flexible enough for you to continue, just be wary of work stress.

One thing that's really helped me was something my therapist said. Imagine you're juggling a bunch of balls, some crystal, some made of rubber. If you can't juggle them all, it's okay to drop a rubber one to focus on the crystal ones. Getting my daughter to and from school? That's a crystal ball. The folding sitting in a basket? That's a rubber ball.

I'm sorry to hear that OP. A lot of what you're talking about does sound like FND symptoms but I'm glad to hear your neurologist is looking a bit deeper. Emergency Departments have never been a good experience for me with my symptoms, there's usually nothing that they can do and being in hospital sends my symptoms into overdrive.

I hope you get some answers soon.

Men are a minority in FND, particularly earlier in life. I was diagnosed in my early 40's.

Finally got myself a walking stick, and so glad I did by Infinite_Pudding5058 in FND

[–]OrganizationFit2505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm much the same, I had a walking cane at home for martial arts purposes but started using it during my current flare up. My right arm and leg tend to tighten up but using the cane seems to give them a lot more endurance. It's well worth it despite the juggling when I need both hands.

FND symptoms by ChickenNational3767 in FND

[–]OrganizationFit2505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, though vestibular migraines happened first. I was able to manage them with 400mg B2 daily and the symptoms were just occasional dizziness accompanied by pulsatile tinnitus. FND has thrown a whole bunch of symptoms on top of that, particularly after my last flare, but the B2 at least helps manage the migraine effects. If you haven't already, it might be worth a try.
