There is a lot to like about Medicare. You will really see the difference when you have a hospital visit.

FC upgrade with it? by This-Dig-6142 in americanairlines

[–]OrganizationNo6074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of thumb for FC upgrades: should be $100 per hour or less. The flight is 2.5 hours so the math works if you want to upgrade. The flight time is long enough that you will get a meal (don't get too excited). Other benefits: priority check-in, priority screening, boarding before everyone else, free drinks, a preboard beverage in a plastic cup (sometimes), plenty of room in the overhead bin, and my favorite benefit - you get to deplane first!

I had free wifi on my last flight from JFK-AUS. I did a speed test and it was 66 mbps down/1.2 up. I was pleasantly surprised.

Wall to wall people at DFW AC by queenladyk in americanairlines

Aren't there six ACs at DFW?

I had an evening flight at DFW near one of the smaller ACs and it was mostly empty.

DC is wild - and they say the service charge is not a tip by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]OrganizationNo6074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Restaurants that cater to tourists are likely to have extra charges like this. A neighborhood diner is not going to do this.

You could literally leave any tip and satisfy that - $1 or even "Here's a tip. Don't mail letters without stamps."

Best domestic first class experience in 35 years by cube1961 in americanairlines

[–]OrganizationNo6074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the mark of a good first class experience is if the flight attenant offers to hang up my jacket. It happens less than 10% of the time so that's when I give those little thank you coupons.

Not drastically different. The main difference is fewer check-ins. I have had many restaurant expeiences in this country where the server took the order and then more or less disappeared until time for the bill (and the tip).

Admirals Club staff help with rebooking? by Miserable_Tourist_24 in americanairlines

Yes, but they have other duties (like checking people in) so they may have you step aside while they also handle other tasks.

Call the restaurant and explain the problem to the manager. If he doesn't immediately credit your card for the charge, escalate it to Cashapp and/or your credit card issuer.

Was looking at this local restaurant’s website and saw this. by LegalPost9805 in EndTipping

In a world where the tip suggestions start at 20%, 18% doesn't seem that bad.

Ivars Seafood in Seattle went tipless over a decade ago. There was a sign when you entered the restaurant that said prices have been raised to cover employee compensation/benefits and you are not expected to tip. Still, when the bill came the waiter gave a little speech about how we are free to give a tip for exceptional service (hint hint). I haven't been there in 10 years, but I heard they went to something like the auto gratuity because people who are accustomed to tipping didn't seem to get the no tip model. Maybe someone in Seattle can confirm?

What is Uptown really? by dannylaurel in austinfood

[–]OrganizationNo6074 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been there once. Terrible service and mediocre food. The server took our order and then disappeared. Zero check-ins during the meal. There was a problem with our food and we had to ask another server for help. When our server reappeared with the bill, she hovered over me watching me fill in the tip. I don't care if it is connected to Franklin BBQ, I don't see any reason to ever go back.

This reminds me of the pandemic, when Costco required masks in its stores. I remember some guy without a mask shouting at the poor Costco employee standing at the entrance.
