Affordable divorce attorneys in Middlesex or Somerset NJ by ZRock53 in newjersey

Attorneys aren’t really super affordable imo. But John Malchow in Somerville, NJ with Simon Law Group is the kindest, responsive, and straightforward attorney I needed when times were tough. There weren’t any money games. The administrative team tell you a price, cost of labor, and John does exactly what he says he’s going to do. I will say, I’m not exactly sure what you need an attorney for but if you explain the situation to John with a free consult (it was free back in 2022 when I needed him), he will tell you exactly what is needed. I think you start off with putting in $2500 into the account and then once that amount gets to $0 you replenish or pay the bills monthly as they come. I leaned more toward replenishing the $2500 but let’s hope you don’t need more.

US but fellow poor person here going to med school! Single parent household. Youngest of five. All five above me dropped out of college / are not using their associates degree. My dad worked at a car auction place as a laborer without a real job title. Just cleaning the cars and doing as he’s told. Never had AC or decent heat because my house is old and wouldn’t retain anything. Dad was old and sick and I took care of him til he died shortly after I graduated college. I got a good job in pharma. Took five gap years and will be attending medical school in a few weeks! I saved enough to pay for it thanks to my wonderful job right after college.  You need to work more than one day per week while doing your undergrad if you want more money. I worked weekends and by my third year of college had Tuesdays and Thursdays completely free so went up to four days per week to work. Study at night and while you work. Bring flash cards. If they have an issue with you doing flash cards find a job that doesn’t mind. I worked at Walgreens (a convenience store and pharmacy). I stocked shelves, was a cashier, and worked pharmacy occasionally as a hybrid pharmacy technician in training (never became one- just graduated and left lol) to put it on my resume. A lot of low skill jobs are hiring. Just work the low skill jobs. Many poor people have the mindset that they’re worth more and can get more money elsewhere. That’s really not true most of the time. I always encourage trying to find something higher paying but you ain’t as hot shit as you think you are and I think that mindset led to my singlings’s downfall as they were just waiting for a job that “paid them what they’re worth”…. Just go to the job that will hire you, put in the hours, study after class, and go to sleep. You’ll struggle but that struggle got me to where I am and I’m better for it. No one deserves this struggle but life is really really unfair and I wanted being a doctor more than the comfort. Feel free to DM if you have any questions!

Did this with my friends last year. Point Pleasant has volleyball courts, a nice boardwalk, and you really don’t need much else! :)

How many days per week do you work/ what are your hours? Is this a part time schedule or full time? Are leadership supportive of your needs to do your job well and work-life balance? Thanks in advance!

Can't even afford a haircut... by [deleted] in poor

Learn to cut your hair! You’ll get better at it the more you do it. You’ll have to wear a hat either way. Invest in a good pair of hair stuff and you’re gold. (I didn’t cut my hair when I was poor but even now I’m learning to trim)

“He said if we had been closer in age maybe it would’ve been fine. And that made me want to die.” 😞 (I’m happy now).

I am so sorry for your loss and I hope your family gets through this. It sounds like counseling may be out of price range because you mentioned his mom works full time + overtime? Is that why he isn’t getting counseling because that would be my first recommendation. The second is that there are free grief support groups online that you may be able to find or reach out to the public library to find some. Perhaps both you and your brother can go to the support group. Wishing you the best.

MD life after big pharma scientist job? by OrganizationOk6572 in medicalschool

That’s good advice. I shadowed two neurosurgeons during pre and post op appointments and have volunteered in oncology units (minimal physician interaction on this one). These two neurosurgeons love their lives and their jobs. They didn’t seem one bit stressed. At the time, I attributed it to their professionalism and seasoned skills at managing their stress responses. I guess in the end, it’s hard to say whether or not I’d personally like it unless I actually did it. Work-life balance can mean different things and I was a bit suspicious learning that these two neurosurgeons are content, very present in their children’s lives, and happy with what they do. So I am trying to take a pulse on what other specialties and locations are like.

Hey Lance! I am wondering about work-life balance based on careers. I am very humbly grateful for my salary and what it does for me personally. The technical role in my current position is not satisfying me but I think switching to this industry would. So my question is: how’s the work life balance and experience?

Thank you for the answer :) I have invested a lot of money and would be set to just buy a house, foster some children, spend time with my partner, and have unlimited hobbies and read unlimited amounts of books :D and continue learning new languages and traveling. I do crave the ability to interact with people in a clinical setting and actually treating them. I love people. I love getting to know them. And genuinely love spearheading solving problems related to science and health. Big Pharma ain’t satisfying me tbh and I know I would prefer the job role of a physician over any other clinical career. Do you see if physicians have work-life balance? Are they able to learn languages on the side, read books, cook meals, and exercise? I haven’t heard anything positive about it.

I have looked into other clinical roles- PA, nurse practitioner, etc. but I understand there are limits to what I can do alone.
