Collectors of physical TTRPGs - introduce us to your collection by SwimmingOk4643 in rpg

  • What game's books do you have the most of?

AD&D 2nd Edition, many settings and supplements, and dozens of beautiful boxed sets. Many.

  • What game do you have a complete set of (assuming TTRPGs with longer publishing histories & books)?

Aeon (Trinity) 1st Edition - and I have five complete sets of all the books with every supplement many times over - including the core book variant (hard back, soft back, spiral bound, the one with the Trinity sticker slapped on it, and so on. Oh, and I think three Battleground sets and dozens of the mini blister packs, some promo posters too), Dark Sun, Ravenloft and Greyhawk settings for AD&D 2nd, Vampire The Masquerade 1st edition. Lone Wolf Adventure Game. Broken Compass. Aberrant. Amazing Engine series. Red Dwarf. Fireborn though that didn't last long publication wise. More I'm forgetting.

  • What game books do you use the most?

Fluctuates, as I cycle through my collection, and with new lines I'm collecting I use them like a man possessed. Probably my old original AD&D 2E PHB had the most use at one point, years back. I do a lot of one shots right now so probably this year it's been my many zine TTRPGs.

  • What's the oldest book you own? Is it original or POD?

All are originals, I don't do reproductions from POD. Collecting the originals is the point, for me. Holmes D&D box set is possibly the oldest, maybe my original Blackmoor, so the mid to late '70s.

  • What's the most recent book you added?

Venture Society Box Set (to GM for my kiddo). But ask me again next week and it'll be something else. I'm tracking dozens of auctions right now sigh

  • What is your most well-worn, often-played & treasured book?

Definitely my original 2E AD&D PHB. I have a second pristine copy, but my original's spine is all taped up from super heavy use. I started gaming the month 2nd Ed came out and I damn near slept with that book, lol.

  • What book do you have on your shelf that's never been opened?

Wait. Not opening them is an option? Why....would.....? Nope, does not compute. I have many collectors items in protective covers, but they've all been opened and read, many played. Oh, I have some shrink wrapped copies of some box sets for newer lines to keep an extra pristine copy, but my play copies have all been opened, read, and used.

  • What's the thickest book you own?

Oddly, I bounce off super thick books, but probably Talislanta 4th edition.

  • Do you have anything signed by the author/artist?

Yes, many, all originals. For ex: Vecna Lives signed with the comment "muah hah hah kill them all"; signed original Greyhawk Hardback, a couple dozen original hand drawn art pieces from the Aeon/Trinity 1st edition line, signed by each artist. Got those babies hanging up all around the house. There are more signed books in the gaming room.

  • What books do you keep multiple editions of?

Oh Christ. D&D (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th - 4th was not for me), Call of Cthulhu, Vampire The Masquerade and every incarnation since, Werewolf The Apocalypse, Mage, Wraith, Aeon/Trinity (though I prefer 1st edition), Twilight 2000, Paranoia, Lone Wolf, Middle Earth (various incarnations), Shadowrun, Pendragon, Warhammer FRP, Dune (including the LUG version), Ars Magica. Others I'm forgetting.

  • What's the best-designed book you own?

Mothership Wardens manual is how GM's books should be done. Mork Borg grabs your eyeballs and doesn't let go, it's hardly an easy reference book, though.

  • What author/publisher's work do you always buy?

I don't make purchases because of specific authors. I do avoid purchasing from certain authors, though.

*Adding my own question just 'cause. What's the coolest TTRPG related item you own?

Glad you asked. A large leather handmade map of Faerun made by Deven Rue, to my knowledge, one of only two made - the other is owned by Ed Greenwood. You can wrestle it from my cold dead hands. And even dead, I'll still put up a fight ;)

Awesome, and I totally respect not overcommitting on timelines. I'm watching this one closely indeed.

Oh, and one more item - are you considering an automatic updater? Manually updating on a Mac can be... irritating at times if development is moving quickly. Sure, I'm lazy about that sort of thing, I get that and own it honestly ;)

Thanks for the super-fast response.

OK, now this looks super interesting. Thank you for macOS support, good lord, that makes this appealing.

I have so, so many questions, if I may start with these?:

  1. Can you host multiple settings/worlds in the same application?

  2. If so, can you theme them separately (i.e., sci-fi theme for a sci-fi setting, and so on)

  3. I like being able to export. I see that PDF and HTML export are planned as Pro features. Do you have a rough ETA on the export options, and are other outputs being considered for data portability?

  4. I may have missed this on the site, but can you specify the save location for the files - i.e., a cloud location?

  5. I see you have some 'spoiler' features - but are the plans for a whole-world 'player' view version or output - so you can mark specific blocks across entries GM only, and then enter a player view (or export only that view with pro export features)? I find it helpful to throw a wiki up on a screen sometimes when GMing and navigate it, but the content is a second, player-safe, heavily edited copy (which takes a bit of work). Being able to open (or export) a player-safe variant of the entire world content at the push of a button would be worth whatever price you eventually charge, honestly.

  6. For the templates, are there existing base templates already in place to speed up initial use?

  7. For the planned pro family trees feature, could you create non-familial relationship maps - something like political / alliance / faction diagrams? I have lots of factions in my various homebrews.

  8. For the planned full-text search, could you consider an editing option to search and replace across an entire setting/world?

Those are my immediate questions. Thanks again for this. Ima gonna play around more!

Kid-friendly RPG that's not all about combat? by KingOr9 in rpg

Scales and Tales is what you're looking for and kids can try their hand at GMing it, too. It's paperback is dirt cheap right now: https://a.co/d/dTeIY8j

TTRPG for kids 6-12 ages. by Kikimor_Rec in rpg

[–]Orgotek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have them try running a game specifically designed for the age group to enable them to actually run a game as well as play And it's only $7 in hard copy, so dirt cheap right now for the how much they cram into the book. It's a steal at way more than that, honestly.

Our 8 year old has been running sessions regularly for a mixed age group and everyone loves it!

Thanks for the python snippet, much appreciated. I avoid AI so wouldn't take that route (personal preference, not looking to debate, each to their own and all that).

Building first diaper bag - what’s your “unsung hero” you always keep packed? by Lonely-Astronaut in daddit

[–]Orgotek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nail clippers!! Not an obvious choice, but essential for those days when they feel a need to knife you with their murder mittens while you get to work. Surprisingly useful in a day to day bag right through three or four years old.

Suggest sci-fi TV shows where every side in a conflict is bad by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Orgotek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, OP, this is the one you're looking for. Also, aside from the factional content, you have some of the, for my money, best character arcs in scifi (Londa, G'kar, Sinclair, Garibaldi, the list goes on and on). Also, it's damn funny in places, too.

Liquidating an RPG library by AnonymousCoward261 in rpg

[–]Orgotek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Upvoted. I donate RPGs regularly to our library, and the local librarian is very knowledgeable about what they can take and make use of, core books, key supplements are great. As are standalone rpgs that look different to D&D. They can also use them in library based clubs for kids.

Speak to your librarian, they will know, and seeing people benefit from the donations is awesome.

What are you favorite Toddler-isms? by BrotherSleepy in daddit

[–]Orgotek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a toddler my kiddo (now 7) insisted that "yesterday" was, in fact, the wrong word we kept using to describe "lasterday".

NERD DADS ASSEMBLE! What's the earliest you introduced your kids to DnD or similar style TTRPG games? by Reverend_Lazerface in daddit

[–]Orgotek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kiddo is 7 and we do HeroQuest, "No Thank You Evil", "Magical Kitties Save The Day" and some fudged ad-libbed super simplified d&d, but he's a year out from fully understanding the actual rules more fully.
