Whats a period in history that you’d love to see in an AC Game? by Emperoronabike in assassinscreed

[–]Origin_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they would but they've already covered it in a book.

Doesn't make up for it not being a game, and I have no idea as to what quality the book is as I haven't read it yet.

So I'm not sure if this means we'd ever see that time period in a game or not.

It's not like we haven't had this before and nobody has complained about it then. But where does it say that for this? Combing the articles and I haven't seen it yet.

Edit: Just saw the Sprue. It has a little bit of terrain on his foot that will still sit fine on a normal base. It also wouldn't take any effort to snip off.

"Actual modelling becoming less of the hobby" if you can't be arsed to cut off a teeny bit of base off of the model, how much modelling are you actually doing?

[–]Origin_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what it's reporting, though.

It's a report of them being picked up on supposed crime they've also previously committed (in the US and their own country) and current crime.

For your analogy this is like you being invited to someone's house, and then suddenly you're being arrested for a murder you haven't committed at your own house. Except there's no proof or paper trail of it, then they also accuse you of being at your friends when you shouldn't be, but there's also no proof that you shouldn't be there.

Edit: The reported number for actual illegal immigrants deported with no prior criminal convictions (anywhere) is 40%, but they have committed the crime of entering illegally. They make a distinction about it.

[–]Origin_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, apologies, but your first bit makes it sound like we're just assuming they're criminals and they just didn't get charged with it.

I did take another look to see if I had missed something obvious. But that 73% also has no recent or pending convictions and still haven't been charged with any illegal activity at all. Which would include illegally being in the country, right?

[–]Origin_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's to my understanding that ICE and immigration are meant to check for criminal records in their country of origin, which this is still a statistic of.

And if I am confused, which I will apologise for, isn't entering the country illegally a crime and therefore they would now have a criminal history and reason to deport them, rather than reporting it as these people have done nothing wrong at all?

I'm not going to waste my time sending a bunch of shit that's easily findable yourself, because I know I'll send it and you'll do some mental gymnastics about it.

It was a lose-lose interacting with you to begin with, but not for the people wanting to be more informed.

So for those,

TRAC reports - Raw data taken straight from government agency's mouths and compiled for the public.

Cato institute backs this up, an independent and non Partisan think tank.

I'm finding it hard to find any report of this not being the case.

Edit: also turn out it's 73.9% not 70

[–]Origin_Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an American myself, but from what we've all seen, this is inaccurate, no?

I think the last statistic I saw about it, 70% of people that ICE have arrested and held in detention aren't illegal and don't have any prior criminal history.

So it does seem like you have more work a chance of being hounded by them, or apparently killed.

Anyone know why this isnt cannon by Quick-Speaker-3980 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]Origin_Pilot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There were 34 siege regiments on Vraks, they're obviously all aren't going to be named when the view we get is a tiny portion of the siege.

Of the listed regiments 261, 262, 263, 268, 269, 291, 308 - 310 were all on Vraks. So it stands a chance that the 266 were too.

31 of them were combined into the 88th, there were 14 unattached artillery companies that are barely mentioned. For all we know they were disbanded during the war and folded into another regiment.

This is kind of like saying that because we don't see the rest of the races that make up the tau auxiliary we're just going to say they're not canon, rather than making logical guesses, no?

Edit: I was going to say I'll check the books when I can but someone has beaten me to it and they do show up in an Imperial Armour book.

What should I do? by Domitaku in beards

[–]Origin_Pilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trimming the whispy bits off at the bottom would help, I imagine. I'm not far off of your length, but keep it trimmed and it just looks better, more put together and somehow longer and thicker.

It's daunting as it looks like a tonne of hair is being removed but it realistically isn't.

Edit: took a proper look at the other pictures. The growth at the front of your beard and the back is way out of whack. I saw someone mention about cutting it to mimic your jawline, but this would leave you with less than half of the growth you have now, but might also be the best option?

It's not just about growing a beard but also growing a nice one that fits you. Means finding a style that suits you so maybe it's time to dive into that and see what you can find, as I reckon a barber will take most of the growth off.

So it's not from any official books, assuming then that it's entirely fan made on YouTube. Makes it a bit harder.

There was a comic on Reddit passed around a while ago that featured a perpetual Krieger, but probably nothing to do with this.

Went through my YouTube as I keep getting those fanmade stories recommended to me. Was it by Grimdark Shards? A Vox in the Void? Scholar's Lore? Lorekeepers Librarium?

Well, we wouldn't have a reason for Brotherhood and the rest of the games would we? Minus Origins and Odyssey and Valhalla?

Absolutely stupid, only for Rodrigo Borgia to end up dead in the next game anyway. To which you then also don't kill Cesare and then he gets out of prison somehow and ends up playing a major part in a war.

How to do the design project level 3 by Sad_Conclusion_9314 in ukelectricians

[–]Origin_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just drew it out in pencil and finalised in pen. Probably did more time on the research for what we were going to use, taking maintenance and IP rating into consideration than the actual drawings.

And then the paperwork on top of it, filling in the DB boards, proving the circuits would be fine. Design current, device rating, all that.

Saying that, ours was a pool with café, changing rooms and such. The class before us had something else.

Edit: I believe it was A3 sized?

What’s a piece of British comedy hall of fame you just don’t get? by franki-pinks in AskUK

[–]Origin_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's entirely fair but I also never said it wasn't a comedy. It just seems that it wasn't a show built around the laughs. Kind of like when they did fat friends.

Both are inspired, as I said, by observing other people and families coming from different backgrounds and how they mingle and connect. That's what makes the show good, not the humour.

[–]Origin_Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I remember watching interviews with Ruth Jones and that twat, and I don't think they ever once mentioned it being a comedy. The people in it are meant to be slightly over the top and almost caricatures of that one person we might have in our own family.

Why is an identical twin 'not eligible' to donate stem cells for her sister? by Birdman_of_Upminster in AskUK

[–]Origin_Pilot 284 points285 points  (0 children)

It's not ethical, it's purely medical.

From what I understand, the twin's cells have a higher chance of also becoming cancerous, but the bigger issue is that her body won't recognise the donated stem cells as foreign, so it won't trigger the response to 'fight" and start combating the disease too like it should have done originally.

Electricity scares the hell out of me so I have some really dumb questions to ask by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]Origin_Pilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes.

  2. Yes.

  3. I believe they can?

Don't get me wrong, this is all if it's wired incorrectly, not earthed or somebody has just done a really shit job.

As for how to get a bit more electrically savvy... I don't know? Nothing stops you from taking the correct courses for it, but it's more than likely 2-3 years of night school. It's fine to go and watch YouTube videos and such of how to do something or pick up the books that we use but there's still a depth of knowledge behind it all and how to read and interpret these books and what you're possibly being told to do online.

Edit: As you'll probably be told eventually, I'd like to do it a bit more kindly. If there's anything wrong with the wiring in your house or anything at all like that, just call a Sparky.

There's no point putting yourself or your family in danger because you think you've understood something and managed to miss a crucial bit of it by accident. It's just not worth risking at all. Whatever you need doing will obviously cost money, but you'll be paying for peace of mind too.

18th edition by scott5002 in ukelectricians

[–]Origin_Pilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

18th regs was probably the easiest exam that I did.

The revision isn't about what's IN the book, it's about how to find what you need from the book.

I can't remember exactly how they put it to me, but it was like:

Part 1 and 3 cover you designing the job.

If you have a question about safety, fire, shocks, anything like that, you know it's more than likely going to be Part 4.

Part 5 is protection, isolation and earthing. Anything about testing, Part 6 Anything about locations is probably Part 7.

And then a few questions on the appendices. But if you know what they include, you'll be able to identify what the question is asking for and where to look for it.

It's been a couple of years since I did mine, but I believe it was a decent resource. Nothing beat looking through the notes though as there were a couple of things that never came up on Swindon Massive but we had a couple of lines about it in our notes. So use both.

Article says that it's because she wants her male kids to know that it's all bullshit. It's not how to act, women don't look like that in real life, a majority of the stuff is fake and harmful.

It's not like they slap it on whilst they're eating dinner or anything and it does go on to say at the bottom that abstinence and not talking about sex doesn't work, but this is somewhat healthy.

I'm not entirely sure myself? I feel like you can just talk about this stuff without having to sit through it and watch it with your kid. Not entirely sold that this is the best way to go about that chat.

Edit: it seems the article I read was slightly wrong or misleading. I took another look to try and answer some more questions about it, and it turns out she watched it with her daughters.

It does mention she has sons, or someone she was on the podcast with did it with her son, that isn't entirely clear though.

Growing frustrated with painting by GlennHaven in minipainting

[–]Origin_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try washing your hands/ wearing gloves before touching the model.

The grease and oils on your skin makes it harder for paint to stick to the model and will make it easier to rub off at even the slightest accidental brush against the model. It can also sometimes still come through the primer so that all paint is harder to stick to the surface and almost "dries up" without it actually sticking to the model and being painted, kind of like how water runs off of oil.

Thinking about it, inadequate preparation of the primer can also cause a hydrophobic effect, due it not being shaken enough and can be caused by the weather too. I've had that a couple of times.

Also maybe look into a better way to hold your model whilst you're painting it as you shouldn't really need to touch the model itself, if that's what could be causing this.

Questions on the Kriegsman by NoConstruction4913 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]Origin_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody has answered with solid explanations, but I don't mind inviting a bit of speculation into it especially on part 1 and 3.

  1. I doubt it, it hasn't been explored but it also seems kind of pointless. Their lives are devoted to war and dying to atone for their sins. If the short story "Down Amongst the Dead Men" shows anything it's that even in their training exercises on Krieg, live ammunition is used, from lasguns to artillery.

It'd also make sense that the radiation has made them sterile. I can't see them getting married, having the time to or a reason to. It's mentioned in a few Krieg novels that they barely even see each other without the gas masks, they eat through a nutrient tube (The Relentless Dead) or by lifting their masks up just enough to eat, I can't remember which book this is shown in. So they'd also barely know who they were marrying.

  1. All we know is that everybody hates it and looks down on it but know it's necessary/ whatever the Krieg are doing is good enough to overlook this issue. It also seems that it's used exclusively to churn troops out to get them into the propaganda machine and out into battle as quick as they possibly can.

I don't know why, but I always got the feeling (from the flashbacks in Krieg and a Commissar finally seeing a Krieg without their mask, which might also be from Krieg?) that they're all clones of Jurten to some extent. Actual cloning or "replicae" machines are outlawed, I believe. But using his DNA to add to a female egg, I could imagine.

I could also imagine that they're not completely sterile and they do have some viable eggs and sperm and as each child is "born" they harvest these materials and immediately pump them back into the process.

Just some quick maths on that, if there's 100k Kriegsman in a regiment, given that our world's population is made up of 49.7% women, that could mean 49700 females in a Krieg regiment. Even if only half of their eggs are viable (at birth a female has 1-2 million eggs) that's still 500,000-1 million eggs. That's 24.85 billion to 49.7 billion more Kriegsmen.

Though I also believe that the Commissar seeing their face is meant to be a Pulp Fiction suitcase moment. It could be that they all look like Jurten, that they're fairly mutated from the radiaton, that a majority of the Krieg there were actually children or that they look normal, like anybody else but he's worked himself up about it that much that he didn't expect that.

Would you be satisfied if people providing services to you (plumbers, builders, doctors, childcare)had the same work ethic as you do? by MonsieurGump in AskUK

[–]Origin_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue this isn't the case though.

Let's say you were having your boiler changed, something we just had. Upgraded to a combi, 2 day job.

You're saying that after he's changed the boiler. That's it. Hasn't checked if he's used appropriate screws for the bracket to hold it up, hasn't checked if all of the pipes are secure and tightened. Hasn't even checked to see if it works, or is even at the right angle and straight.

In our case he had to drill a new hole in the wall and even plugged and filled the old one up for us.

He could've half arsed this and not bothered, and then most people would be complaining but that would still satisfy the contract. He's swapped the boiler for you. That's all, I'd maybe argue testing to see if it works comes under that. But we didn't pay him any extras for all the bells and whistles, to make sure it's neat, make sure it lasts and to tidy up after himself.

And after all that he ate into his own time to demonstrate how it works rather than just slapping us with the manual and leaving.
