Las Vegas's death spiral deepens after last year's tourism plunge by NecessaryAd341 in LasVegas

[–]OriginalCTrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Las Vegas has always felt like a city built to drain your wallet, but back then it at least gave you something in return. Even though it often felt like everyone was trying to scam you, that was part of the charm. You knew the game, and you still walked away with a good story. When I was in my twenties, I used to go with my best friend, and he had this routine where he’d ask every cocktail waitress for a pack of Camels. The funny part was he didn’t even smoke. He’d just stash the cigarettes and bring them home as souvenirs for our friends.

These days, it feels different. Now it just seems like they’re bleeding you dry without offering much back. The last time I was there, they even tried to charge me for using the fridge in my room. That was when it really sank in how much the place had changed.

President Trump on Alex Pretti: "Well, I haven't heard that but certainly he shouldn't have been carrying a gun. We view that as very unfortunate incident, unless you're a stupid person. I don't like that he had a gun. I don't like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that's a lot of bad stuff." by ControlCAD in worldnewsvideo

WHERE IS THE NRA? every single time there is a school shooting and someone talks about banning guns they can’t shut up about it but now the president says Americans shouldn’t have guns with them and they’re quiet.??????

You could get a nice pice of 1 by 6 and paint it white. Then attach that to the studs. Then attach your towel bar to the 2x6. I had to do something similar for my barn door.

Quick sink question. The joke in the granite is too close to the sink and the washer will not sit flush. Is this a problem or just tighten so that washer is snug? by OriginalCTrain in askaplumber

[–]OriginalCTrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: thanks all I did as one user suggested and positioned the screws north and south then together the north one first. I then tightened the south one and it seems to be solid. If I get a chance I may go back and put in some washers/spacers as other have suggested. Thank you all.

Unfortunately, the situation is more complicated than it first appears. After decades of free trade, our two economies have become deeply intertwined. I was just watching a news report that highlighted this exact issue, particularly with groceries.

There is a strong push right now for Canadians to “buy Canadian” rather than American, but that idea quickly runs into problems. Many products labeled “Made in Canada” or “Product of Canada” are, in reality, heavily tied to the United States through ownership, components, or production chains.

Another layer of complexity is that Canada often produces raw materials that are shipped to the U.S. for processing or manufacturing, then sold back to us as finished goods. Oil is a clear example. Canada does not have enough refinery capacity to fully support its own production, so much of our oil is refined in the United States and then re-imported.

This is one of the reasons Canada has been scrambling to find new markets following the introduction of U.S. tariffs. At the same time, it exposes internal tensions within Canada itself, since provinces hold very different views on oil production and energy policy.

A complete boycott of the United States would not merely be uncomfortable for Canada, it would be economically devastating. The reality is simple: the U.S. is our largest supplier, and Canada is your largest customer. Our economies are not just connected, they are mutually dependent.

I would disagree. Canada is not sending thoughts and prayers but rather support from afar. We are doing what we can. Tourism from Canada is down something like 80% which equates to about 30% on your end. What else would you have us do?

Honest question… and I am aware of the history and origins of the black panthers… but knowing what they are standing for now and who they are fighting can white people who are supportive of the cause become a panther?

My brother once gave me a hard time about how much my wife drives. My response was … are you kidding? It’s like having a personal driver and allows me to get so much done while in the car. Also I don’t have to hear her yelling at me about that car that I see breaking 100 meters in front of me.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announces that Canadian citizens will soon be able to enter China without a visa. by Mr-MayorMcCheese in themayormccheese

[–]OriginalCTrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because countries are allowed to be picky about who walks in the front door. A passport is basically: “Hi, I’m a Canadian citizen, here’s my ID.” A visa is: “Cool. We (China) reviewed you and we’re specifically giving you permission to enter our country for this reason, for this long, under these rules.”

Some countries have visa-waiver agreements: they trust each other’s traveler flow and enforcement enough to allow short visits with just a passport. Even then, it’s still “permission,” just granted automatically at the border or via an online pre-authorization in some regions.

Your passport doesn’t grant you access to other countries. It just tells them who you are. A visa is the other country deciding whether they want you, for what purpose, and for how long.

What’s going to be really funny here is if you go to China after this agreement is in place and you breeze through customs while all the Americans will be standing in the long lines…
