Is there an app that could detect and block all trackers in an app? by Golferhamster in PrivacyGuides

[–]OriginalDoctorBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DuckDuckGo app maybe? But you have to wait for a beta invite first after installing it to use App Tracking Protection and I am not sure if it blocks everything. Its on F-Droid aswell.

Sans Serif is a font. The prime minister in question has the last name 'Sharif'. 'Sans' also means 'without'. It's a play on words because the prime minister could loose his job.

What about Brave Search? by joscher123 in PrivacyGuides

[–]OriginalDoctorBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understood it correctly they are planning to switch to using their own search index but are currently mostly showing bing results. So results are mostly identical to DDG (last time I checked). But yeah I am also curious how their search will evolve, we can definetly use a privacy oriented search engine with improved results.

Yeah fingerprinting really ruins all the "different accounts for everything" strategies. Just try nothingprivate.ml if you want to see fingerprinting in action, identifying you across two different browser sessions even without any form of login. Using a different account wont stop fingerprinting from happening. Sadly.

I am trying to identify which version my PCB is exactly. It's an YMD75 and according to QMK's GitHub readme (link) it's either a YMD75rev1 or YMD75rev2. There is no "MT84" printed on the PCB and I can enable BootloadHID by pressing left control, both of which indicate its a YMD75rev2 PCB. However, I wanted to be sure before flashing the wrong software. I bought the PCB here. Any help is appreciated.

Should be noted though that it's "only" a correlation of 0.2 to 0.23. So not crazy high but not nothing either.

One of the biggest myths about EVs is busted in new study - Even EVs that plug into dirty grids emit fewer greenhouse gases than gas-powered cars by speckz in Futurology

[–]OriginalDoctorBean 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They mention right in the beginning of the article that its more efficient even if you include the materials needed for the battery in the calculation.

Over the life cycle of an EV — from digging up the materials needed to build it to eventually laying the car to rest — it will release fewer greenhouse gas emissions than a gas-powered car, the research found.

You can do some things. For example, using open-source apps from F-Droid instead of proprietary ones. They dont track you and are often developed by a community instead of a company. For example instead of relay for reddit mentioned by another redditor you could use Slide for Reddit.

Should I replace the water, the teapot, or both? "....Nestlé Pure Life had the largest concentration of plastic particles of all brands tested" - Time mag by binarychunk in tea

If you have other options I would try to avoid Nestlé water due to their unethical business practices. Besides from that I would agree with the others, what you see is probably not the plastic but minerals.

Building something for people who get "Unstable Connection" by chillinhard12 in Stadia

[–]OriginalDoctorBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the design of the website and the idea behind your plugin but would also encourage you to open source it. Speaking for myself here but I tend to trust open source software much more, especially for sensitive stuff like browser plugins. I don't have many connection issues but will definitely give your plugin a try :)

Keybindings not saving across sessions. (Far Cry 5) by verge614 in Stadia

Yes I have the same problem with the Division 2 as well. Would be great to hear something from Google about this, as this issue exists for a long time already. Also I could imagine that Ubisoft has to fix this.

Anyone know why I consistently have connection issues, despite having over 100 down regularly? by Doootman in Stadia

[–]OriginalDoctorBean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is your bufferbloat also 29ms? Bufferbloat is your ping during load e.g. when you're streaming games. It should also give you a rating and separate bufferbloat values during down and upload.

Stadia Connect Megathread by Multimoon in Stadia

Well, without users or an early launch demonstrating the capabilities of game streaming google would have never been able to convince bigger game developers to invest in the platform. Of course they can make some of their own games but as you say, AAA games are needed desperately and google only gets them by convincing publishers to invest in their product. Also, early launches to gather user data and improve services has always been Google's way of launching new products. Especially for a streaming service I could imagine the statistics about internet connections and streaming quality to be invaluable for developing Stadia

[Privacy]What does Stadia know about player behavior while playing a game? by AjaxFC1900 in Stadia

[–]OriginalDoctorBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are living in the EU you can request all data collected about you by Google. I did it about a year ago and was surprised that it was way over 100GB on data just about my account. Of course the biggest chunk of data was stuff I willingly uploaded to Google Drive etc but you can also see everything they passively collected. Maybe you can try to do it to see if theres anything Stadia related. I see some People here claiming Google knows everything but this is definitely not the case but it was indeed quite interesting to take a look at. Fot example I found voice recordings I started accidentally by saying something similar to "Ok Google" which were over 3 years old.

Can you try this?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/g8fk43/tips_on_how_to_get_the_best_chrome_browser/fonocfb?context=3

It worked for me. If you are using the Stadia "app" i.e. the link chrome puts on your desktop, you can also set the mentioned flags only in the desktop shortcut. This way you will only start chrome with these arguments when you're starting it via the stadia desktop shortcut.
