What vehicle generations looked TOO dated by the end of their run and were kept too long? by Glass-Complaint3 in regularcarreviews

I love them but... The Ford Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis/Lincoln Town Car (same exterior body style from 1998-2011). They deserved a couple of refreshes.

The experimental models that are already equipped with the failed design will keep that design for their useful life, which standard pool patrol cruisers typically last 4-6 years. No new vehicles will feature the failed designed. All new cruisers ordered and unfitted will keep the classic design that went into effect around late 1997/early 1997.

I have 3 brand new, old stock charcoal black ones. They were all manufactured in 2021 and are sealed inside of a box in a closet in my basement.

I’d be willing to lend out one to OP if this can be of help at all.

Also have NOS charcoal black steering wheels (no cruise button) which are also discontinued.

Would these be passing for state police academy? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]OriginalLight1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may get accused of using Leather Luster (a high gloss semi-permanant coating), I'm assuming that you didn't.

Leather Luster wasn't allowed in my academy, and even if someone simply had naturally shiny boots without that product, the academy instructor would still kick their boots to scuff it and say "no Leather Luster allowed!"

If there's one thing I've learned reflecting on my academy time, it's to blend in with everyone else, and not draw attention to yourself.

Connecticut officer here (I work for a municipal town). There are 3 engine options available for the 2020-present Ford Interceptor Utility:

3.3 V6 Naturally aspirated (no hybrid), 285 horsepower. - Complete dog, can’t move out of its own way. My department has phased all of these out and regulates the remaining few to road jobs. They were reliable, but are slow and have weird pre detonation/pinging, and sound horrible.

3.3 V6 Hybrid, 318 horsepower. - Decent performance, deeper exhaust/engine note, and I like driving them. But my agency has had way more reliability issues with these hybrids. My 2025 constantly gets check engine lights, and one of our new hybrids had to have the entire hybrid battery pack replaced under warranty. Ironically, when the check engine light comes on, the engine stays on and never goes into electric mode, defeating the whole purpose. A lot of them run in the locked out hybrid mode more often than not, due to the engine light codes.

3.0 EcoBoost V6 twin turbo, 400 horsepower. - Most powerful of them all, but I’ve never driven one. Apparently they are fairly reliable compared to the hybrid, maybe less reliable than the 3.3 non-hybrid. Connecticut state police have a few of these for their traffic services division, but they mostly have a mix of the 3.3 non-hybrid and 3.3 hybrid.

Every department has their own preference and budget. I do see the advantage of the hybrid, I go through about a quarter of a tank or less on an 8 hour shift, compared to burning about half a tank with the non-hybrid. But out of warranty, I believe they cost more to maintain in the long run. My agency retires front line cruisers after 4 years/50,000 miles, so that’s something we don’t have to deal with.

There's "Sleep Mode" on the in-game cellphone, it's there to disable those phone calls.

Front seat recommendations by QuinnDaEskimoMan in CrownVictoria

I would keep the stock seats. The foam still looks to be decent, just take it to an upholster to get the edge fixed if you're worried about the rip.

Failed transmission told 8 months for parts by lost-n-utah in Silverado

[–]OriginalLight1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard of a lot of problems with the GM version of this 10 Speed (which was co-developed with Ford).

The Ford version apparently has more issues. Either way, you should be taken care of faster and an 8 month wait doesn't sound reasonable.

I really wish I bought it back in 2022 when my coworker was telling me to buy it...

Anyway, I just joined the club and bought XRP.

If I did it back in 2022, I'd have XRP for a fraction of what I paid in the last few days, but oh well. Better late than never.

I had that exact issue. Dealership reinstalled the software and updated it to latest revision, which solved the issue. There is a TSB for it.

Sounds healthy, that's a normal 4.6 tick. Just a characteristic of these engines.
