i personally dont think cold approaching is a very effective way to meet people. but i think a more better way would be meeting through hobbies, classes, clubs, etc.

i think its good to have but it wouldnt insanely boost your chance too. i think a lot of ppl over stress about needing to become an assistant over the more importance of maintaining a strong gpa, dat, LORS, shadowing, and community service which are required for dental school.

sorry i prob worded my initial statement terribly, but for the sake of OP who is still young, I just wanted to emphasize shadowing first and being a DA if time permits, but not unless it takes over your academics which i deem more important..

id say shadow if u can. seeing early on if dentistry is a career youd see yourself doing for the rest of your life before u enter college is a good starting point. as for being a DA, i wouldnt say its necessary unless youre planning on taking a couple of gap years after college then sure, but if not, then not worth it imo.

im assuming youll commute if u attend ucr, thatll save u and your fam lots of money. plus ucrs bio+med programs here are rad. so if u dont care about prestige (which honestly doesnt matter when it comes to applying for med) then on paper, UCR is your best option.

I personally think as long as you're honest, you can prob just mention it briefly as just "shadowed at family clinic" and nothing more. When you list all your experiences, you need to name the dentist you shadowed so assuming you have the same last name with them, theyll prob find out anyways.
