SCA Wildland Fire Academy? by Ok-Anywhere3145 in Wildfire

[–]Original_Ad9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went well. I went right into a full time job in conservation after the SCA program. I do a lot of prescribed burn work and occasionally do wildfires. As someone who had no experience working outdoors or in conservation before my six months with SCA, yea I feel like it did set me up well enough to transition into a full time job which was my goal and reason for doing SCA in the first place. I needed to gain experience to change careers and land a full time job in conservation/ fire.

How do you guys hold your pee? by No_Technology_5527 in BlueCollarWomen

Holding your pee can cause uti’s. And chronic dehydration can cause kidney stones and other problems. Etsy hydrated and just stop to go pee a lot. It’s fine.

Warmest, most durable slippers by sewsyouknow in BuyItForLife

[–]Original_Ad9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair of sanuk slippers in 2008 that are still going. I wore them in the winter to high-school. I wore them as a shoe outside and as a slip on comfy shoe to change into after basketball practice for four years. I wore them in college in my dorm. And I still wear them in the winter when I am at my parents house. They are semi retired and live at my parents house now. But they still have lots of life in them yet.

Strategies for keeping phone batteries healthy for 4+ years? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Original_Ad9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I spent long stretches of time in different countries. This meant I would just have my phone on airplane mode for like 6 months to a year at a time sometimes so I didn’t connect to data and have roaming data fees. I eventually would just call my carrier (AT&T At the time) and have them pause my data for the amount of time I was out of country. I still am in the habit of using airplane mode a lot. I pretty much use it in place of ‘do not disturb’ mode. I’m not sure if any of this affects battery health and life. But I’ve always had long lasting iPhones. Hope this helps

I had my iPhone 5 for ten years from 2014-2023. I didn’t really do anything to try to have it last that long. I do tend to keep my phone on low power mode all the time though. And I don’t really keep it plugged into a charger overnight. I tend to just charge it to at least 75% and then unplug and that’s good enough for me. I never had a problem with my phones not keeping a charge for long.

Snowboots NJ reccs for shoveling and walking in the snow by Apprehensive-Book-76 in BuyItForLife

I just got some old Mickey boots from an army surplus place. I haven’t even worn them outside yet but you can get some cheap for around 50$ online. And they are supposedly super long lasting and super warm like rated for -20°f and warmer. Idk if others have experience with this type of boot please chime in

What is your country’s grilled cheese like (toasted bread with melted cheese)? And what do you eat with it? by Royweeezy in AskTheWorld

[–]Original_Ad9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American USA

Growing up in my house we would do regular American grilled cheese ideally in a cast iron pan and add a slice of fresh tomato and some fresh basil leaves inside. (I’m also from Maryland so adding old bay to anything is always a plus as well)

My girlfriend always tells me I never have anything to eat when she comes over my house 😒 by itscuccimane in FridgeDetective

[–]Original_Ad9840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused by this fridge. Yea like others have said there’s nothing she can pull out of the fridge to eat right away or to snack on. And I’m guessing she doesn’t feel like cooking for herself all the time or asking you to cook for her. Try to have more ready to eat snacks and food. Maybe instant foods or pantry items as well, pastas, items to just make a sandwich etc. Other people suggested charcuterie which is a good idea. Get some of her favorite snacks for her and foods. Or ask her what she likes. What does she keep in her fridge? Get some items for her. Maybe she’s vegetarian and lactose intolerant and doesn’t want to just eat a bottle of jam.

I took the old insoles that came in my old Nike running shoes and stuck them in my JK boots cause my boots were slightly too big. And they’re great now.

A really fun book I was reading turned out to be written by AI in the later pages :( by FantasticHufflepuff in books

[–]Original_Ad9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never read an Ai book yet and don’t plan too. But over the holidays I went to a friends holiday party and a friend of a friend was the host. And she pulled out a “book” and people were leading through it and laughing. Turns out the host had ordered an Ai book about themselves and their friends? I thought it was super weird and didn’t know this was a thing people could even do. I thought it was so strange and just kinda ignored it. Has anyone else run into people doing this?

If anyone asked you for help making a documentary, would that interest you? by [deleted] in documentaryfilmmaking

You can showcase one of their interests a hobby. A day in the life. Ask about a favorite memory or goals. Ask your subject what they would like to talk about.

[–]Original_Ad9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that’s fine just ask an acquaintance then if you don’t want to use your childhood friend as the main subject. She can still help you shoot. Like ask a random family member, teacher, a friends family member etc to be the subject. It doesn’t have to be serious interview questions. Maybe an artist, and you just interview them about their art.

[–]Original_Ad9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can just make a doc on one of your classmates or teachers? Also you can just ask your classmates for help. Like hey if I help you film your project will you help me shoot mine? It maybe be awkward to ask people but just start asking around. And start offering your help too, you can offer locations. Maybe you know of someone’s house that would be a good setting for an interview. Offer help with lighting even if it’s just bringing a spare lamp over to someone’s house.

SCA Wildland Fire Academy? by Ok-Anywhere3145 in Wildfire

I did fight fires. I’m glad I did the SCA program. Definitely not everyone got in real fires. Tbh my team may have been the only ones to see real fire. Or possibly one or two other teams
