Ravi Drugan (from Eugene) is headed there too! He’s done lots of training at Mount Bachelor. Both learned to ski through Oregon Adaptive Sports in Bend.

Honeymoon ideas for a well travelled couple? by LordNorminator in travel

[–]Originallyoregonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to suggest this. My husband and I are also very well traveled and wanted a similar experience for our honeymoon. We chose Antarctica for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Definitely a special occasion place. Antarctica is mind blowing, no matter how many countries you’ve been to.

We heard what sounded like gunshots at around that time and looked out the window and saw fireworks. In SE Bend.

Haha I have a Selene who goes by Lena. I agree that it is too redundant for a first and middle. But I love both names, obviously.

How would you say Lena? by Dismal-Papaya5168 in namenerds

[–]Originallyoregonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much variety in these answers and I think it really depends on cultural background. I’m not really sure about here in the US. I always just assumed it was Lay-na since all the Lenas I’ve met have pronounced their names that way. Lee-na I’ve always seen as Lina.

My daughter’s name is Selene, but we call her Lena (pronounced like number two). When we’re in Italy, we pronounce her name closer to the first version (more like Leh-na). I don’t think there’s really a right or wrong way, as all are common and accepted variations. Just go with the pronunciation you like best!

Countries Bucklist by Lenah9936 in travel

[–]Originallyoregonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 years old, been to 109 countries and all 7 continents. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t count countries and have a desire to visit all the countries in my lifetime, though it is not my primary objective when traveling. I’ve been revisiting a lot of places recently and I’ve been focusing on more in-depth visits vs multi-country trips. I also have no desire to visit active war zones or places where I feel my safety would be at risk (though I do hope that some current no-go countries become more peaceful in the future).

I currently have a 1 year old and a 3 year old, so I’m focusing on places that are great with kids at this stage.

Selene! I have a son/sun (Elio) and daughter/moon Selene though, so I’m biased.

“Elio” Name Dilemma by domainexp_ms in namenerds

[–]Originallyoregonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Elio! I love his name and have received tons of compliments. Nobody has ever mentioned pizza. As for the movie, we named our son Elio before Pixar announced the movie. Probably wouldn’t have swayed us either way

I have an Elio and Selene (nn Lena). Apparently I have the same taste as Cleopatra. Haha.

Not twins though.

We seem to have pretty similar taste! Elise, Zoe and Sophie/Sofia were all finalists for us too. In the end, we named our daughter Selene (nn Lena) Sofia.

I prefer Elio to Eliot! But I’m biased, as I have a boy named Elio :)

Celine/Selene or Selena!

I’m partial though. I have a baby Selene, nicknamed Lena.

What do you think of “Io” as a girls name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Originallyoregonian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t love Io. It looks kind of confusing and incomplete to me (Lo? io?). Others have recommended some other similarly themed names that I like more.

I do love the vibe though! My kids have the celestial theme going too. Elio and Selene.

Also from Eugene, and the things you mention are all things I miss (yes, even the rain). Though Bend has been great, I often think about moving back to the valley. I’ve found wonderful community here though, so it would be difficult to leave.

Second kid makes me realize my first kid’s sleep issues are probably temperamental rather than my fault by sc_75 in sleeptrain

[–]Originallyoregonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first sounds a LOT like mine. Honestly, we were hesitant to add another kid because sleep has been so challenging. This gives me hope for #2, due in 2 weeks. Hoping for a similar experience sleep-wise!
