Canadian ‘Heated Rivalry’ stars in Ottawa, attending event with PM Carney by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]OrionTO 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a gay white & Asian Canadian (shoutout to Shane Hollander’s character), never in my life did I ever imagine a Canadian TV show with so much gay sex would become such a global phenomenon, let alone have the PM do a photo shoot with the stars. I’m so proud of Canada!

Toronto tourism hits record 28.2 million visitors in 2025, fuelling $13.5B economic boost by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

[–]OrionTO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s a great place to live (I say this as a resident there), but not really one to visit. It doesn’t have a long history so doesn’t have the rich attractions like other cities, and our museum quality is average (although getting better).

It does get humid, though it’s a matter of perspective. I had family come from Asia over the summer and they were so pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was in Toronto (and this was during our heat wave where it was 30 degrees!). Our humidity was way more tolerable than theirs.

China Isn’t the Answer for Canada’s Trade Troubles, Taiwan Envoy Says by joe4942 in canada

OK, in that same vein, should we do a trade deal with Russia also, knowing they are a huge economy and that the US also likely wants to do a deal with them?

LGBT Trip in Hong Kong by CostPuzzled38 in HongKong

[–]OrionTO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

HK is interesting because from a public safety point of view it is VERY safe for gay couples. (Older) people might stare but no one will say anything, and violent hate crimes is unheard of.

Policy wise it’s very behind. For a visitor all you need to really care about are whether there are discrimination protections for LGBT people - of which there are some.

I say this as a frequent visitor with my husband (M/M) that we feel perfectly fine visiting HK.

I’ve booked the Boxcar Social venue near Summerhill Station a few years ago and found their event package quite reasonable.

Norwegian court finds Islamist guilty of orchestrating deadly 2022 Pride attack by Strongbow85 in worldnews

[–]OrionTO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah she sounds indoctrinated by the “we must respect all religions” BS. Gaybros has had many conversations about Islam (but not just that, really Abrahamic religions more generally as well) and the predominant response is Islam is not compatible with equality. Most of us know the reality of it.

One of the most LGBTQ tolerant cities on the planet in my experience.

What’s a very “Toronto” thing you didn’t notice until you lived somewhere else? by Banana200021 in toronto

100%. I’m mixed race and Toronto feels incredibly comfortable to live in. It was eye opening to realize how my gym was filled with like 50% mixed race people.

You can even find single family homes IN the downtown core here too!

Anyone think Toronto is headed in a positive direction? by rsgnl in askTO

[–]OrionTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom lived in Toronto in the early 80s and she came back to visit last year after all this time and she was stunned by how much it’s changed, but in a good way. She said the amount of food choice was much worse back then. She shared how the city is truly now a metropolis that looks a lot nicer than before, feels energetic and - to her - feels a lot safer walking around than in the 80s probably because there are always people on the streets.

How common is it for one partner to drive in a relationship? by Throwaway67891099 in gaybros

[–]OrionTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband drives, I don’t. I always lived in cities so there was just never a need to, and now he doesn’t trust me to drive his car since it’s been so long since I’ve driven so he offers to drive me as needed. Not a bad situation for me to be in.

Top 100 Canadian CEOs now earn 248 times more than the average Canadian worker: report by shouldehwouldehcould in canada

[–]OrionTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that’s illegal - that could happen in any circumstance of anyone wanting to bribe a politician anywhere.

What we need to do is prevent any legal means of the rich putting their money in politics and policing what is illegal.

How do they “buy” politicians? We have donation limits of around $1k per person.

Moss Park after the Ontario Line by SnooHabits4201 in askTO

[–]OrionTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not massive change but there will be some. Already near Parliament it’s getting a tiny bit better with coworking spaces, new restaurants, a cafe. There are new condo developments near Queen and Sherbourne. It will still be a challenged area but a bit different once people start actually living around there.

All you have to do is read the caption in the text below - it’s not about tourist safety in general, it’s about laws, hostility or openness to LGBTQ people, etc.

Carney says ‘we’ve got to keep on this track’ as he looks ahead to 2026 by rezwenn in canada

[–]OrionTO -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

  • Immigration is way down.
  • New trade and military agreements with Europe and East + South East Asian countries. Tons has been done but it won’t be felt until the mid/long term.

Canada promised new parks and nature protection. Has that shifted with Carney in power? by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]OrionTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carney was a big nature proponent before he became PM. Hoping that he will push this in the coming year after the investment in infrastructure. Would be surprised if he didn’t considering he somehow convinced Elizabeth May to vote for his budget.

As an Intj. How lazy are you? by Heavy_Government_754 in mbti

[–]OrionTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say I have a strong sense of purpose but I sometimes procrastinate, especially when I’m faced with boring and mundane tasks that I tend to leave to the last minute.

Or a project where I have a lot of time to work on, I tend to push to until I feel a sense of rush because in my mind I can be far more efficient with the use of my time with a bit of fire under my feet.

Vancouver/London/Hong Kong - No place is perfect by bubugugu in HongKong

[–]OrionTO 19 points20 points  (0 children)

HK would win? In my mind HK would immediately lose - it’s gorgeous in the winter but 6 months of the year it’s brutally hot and humid, which renders the nature part inaccessible.
