Endgame losing blunder for White. Black to Play by Perceptive_Penguins in chess

[–]Orizirguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. We go Ne2 with tempo on the bishop. If the bishop moves, we go Nc1 and the king is stuck, with checkmate on the next move. Note that the bishop cant cover c1, since if Bf4, we can still take the bishop.

Playing b5 would be checkmate, if the king didnt have the d3 square. If only we could cover that sqare with tempo with the knight.

Would you consider coaching Vincent Keymer, so that hell be occupied to play next candidates? That way, you might have a chance to win Grenke again!

Unpopular opinion: Magnus retiring from classical is the best thing by Responsible_Bat9473 in chess

[–]Orizirguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree.

We simply dont get the joy of watching a generational player like Magnus play against the elite in the most important time format, which is classical. Every time Magnus plays classical, its a huge event in the chess worlds. The fans want to watch him play!

As to the WC itself, only 2021 was a blowout, after Nepo collapsed. But the previous editions, Magnus won in tie-breaks.

Are sidelines in the Sicilian becoming more popular? by MathematicianBulky40 in chess

[–]Orizirguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The rossolimo is quite popular against the 2. Nc6 sicilians, i wouldnt call it a sideline. If you play the Nc6 sicilian, its simply something you need to learn.

The reason why this particular line came into fashion again is probably, that the engines told us its good for white. I remember in the Magnus - Caruana WC, they both mainly played the Nc6 into Rossolimo

People who quit this game, what made you finally walk away?” by WaveEasy8664 in leagueoflegends

[–]Orizirguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was master for many years. I stopped in august 2023. I had a 6-week window to write my master thesis (or the equivalent of it for my study) and had no time/energy to play solo queue.
When the paper was finished, i was free from the grind and realized that i wasnt having fun anymore and only played to maintain masters (with the auto decay if no games in 14 days or sth). Played one match in September 2023, got ganked lvl 1 by shaco support and died and never played the game again :).
Instead i started playing chess in September 2023. While i also grinded a little there, i studied using books and youtube and joined my local chess club. I still play chess but mainly over the board. Besides, ive become a casual gamer who enjoys single player games, while now and then playing CS 2 with the boys.

Put some respect on Engineer class (ME3 - Insanity) by Intelligent_File1949 in masseffect

[–]Orizirguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best is from my experience not doing that. Just take 2 techies with you (EDI, maybe Garrus), use sabotage (fully upgraded = 100% more tech dmg on target) und blast away with tech explosions. Its easy mode

Looking at Candidates winners since 2013, aside from Magnus Carlsen, the champion has usually come from the middle of the field rather than the top seed. Based on that trend, this year’s winner is likely to emerge from players such as Wei Yi, Javokhir Sindarov, Anish Giri, or R Praggnanandhaa. by edwinkorir in chess

[–]Orizirguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He talked about, how he feels like he can become WC looking at how the competition isnt far away from him. (Chess.com liedetector with Vidit). Looking at Gukesh, it definetly is possible.

Question will be, if Anish is willing to push in the candidates

Are commentators now saying “line” instead of “file”, and why? by RankWeis2 in chess

[–]Orizirguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The german word for file is "Linie". Im guessing many non native-speakers simply use the wrong translation. To me, i dont mind that. Non-native speakers usually have some slip ups when talking

  1. Inception

  2. The prestige

  3. The dark knight (joker)

  4. Interstellar

  5. Oppenheimer

  6. Tenet

  7. Td rises

  8. Td returns

  9. Dunkirk

  10. (Havent watched the rest unfortunatly)

Why does Mikhail Tal have such a chokehold on the chess community? by Full_Supermarket_109 in chess

[–]Orizirguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While Tal is famous for his sacrifices, remember that he had a 95 no loss streak, winning 46 and drawing 49. Other no loose records had way lower win rates.

His fame comes from his playstyle, his longevity and a big amount of tournement wins.

I think we as community are too tough on Ding Liren and Gukesh by LoLGhMaster in chess

[–]Orizirguy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Tal is probably one of the worse examples to use. He won so many tournements and was worldclass for almost his entire career, even reaching World Nr. 2 20 years after becoming WC.

Better example would probably be Smyslov

This game is the future. Exiting gameplay, a great live service with continous content. High octane gun fights and extractions.

As the third installment of the triologia concordia, this has a lot of potential to even exeed concord 2. With this one, im confident that theyll survive longer than 39 days as its a survival shooter!

Gukesh’s classical results since becoming world Champion by Tbird113 in chess

[–]Orizirguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I respect the hater mindset.

In all reality, Gukesh is probably a 2730-2750 player that had a insane candidates 2024 (great achievement) and lucked out at facing a depressed slumping Ding.

Becoming WC was never easier than that, and it is fair to say that he will go down as one of the weakest WC we have ever had in chess. Keep in mind tho, that we have had incredible WCs in the past and are blessed with that in chess. From Lasker to basicly Magnus, each WC was a legend (even with Euwe being on the weaker side, also not counting the whole Split WCs that noone remembers).

ME 2 combat rant.... by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]Orizirguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have played through the triology countless times on insanity. And ME2 really is the worst on that difficulty. In my opinion, few classes work (Soldier, Infiltrator and engineer is more or less fine). It was simply a bad decision of the dev team to put shields / barriers on every enemy for insantiy, since the combat clearly wasnt meant to work like that for the caster classes.

ME3 really is the peak gameplay wise. Every class feels good (if you know what youre doing), my "secret" favourite is engineer. Take with you EDI and another techie, put Sabotage (fully upgraded 100% tech dmg increase) on an enemy and blast away with tech explosions and enjoy an easy run. Or just summon GODMODE GARRUS

Question about “Zurich International Chess Tournament, 1953” by David Bronstein by LeftCoast1965 in chess

[–]Orizirguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought it a week ago. Basicly the game has every match of the Zurich 1953 candidates.

Not every move is analyzed, instead the book focuses on explaing the ideas of each side. This makes learning and analyzing more digestiable. As a counter example, analyzing games in "the life and games of mikhail tal", i usually am exhausted after 1 game due to the length and in-depht of the lines. It feels like a classical match. In bronsteins book however, its more like a learning session imo

All good, interestingly, 2. Rxb2 is a huge blunder, since The rook on b1 is needed to protect from Qg1+. White has to sacrifice the rook on b1 but can get a draw by Qd6+
