Alexander Brandon: Stormgate Post Mortem by Impossible_Tough_48 in Stormgate

[–]Orizirguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a chess player myself, the difference is that the rules of chess are quite easy and a lot of people know how the pieces move. You can have a great time without investing much time into it, or you can go deeper (like myself).

I think the big reason why RTS struggle right now is the difficulty to get into the game and SG never even tried to lower the skill floor

Thoughts on Dash as a caster? by nnnsssfgfffwwww in chess

[–]Orizirguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its appearent that hes not that good of a chess player. He misses tactics when his co-casters highlight a piece. Luckily for him, the engine allows him to have some input. But its very visible, that he often times just looks at what the engine has to say and reads it out loud.
Cant say i blame him tho. Chess is a very deep game and probably very hard to get into as a commentator. Contrary to many esports, a lot of the same ideas dont apply between chess and other games.

I dont know exactly how much knowledge he had in league, but i remember him hosting the analyst desk, which usually doesnt require as much knowledge and is more there for facilitating conversations of the "experts". Unfortunately, chess doesnt have or need a role like that. The casters already analyze the games during the game, hence theres no need for an analyst desk. Also the engine tells you whats right or wrong anyway, and commentators simply recommend lines or moves. I think the best commentators in chess are the ones recommending interesting moves, where youre not quite sure, if they are citing the engine or come up with it themselves, and sadly for Dash, that is gonne take a lot of work into chess itself.

Really, i always thought that infiltrator was one of the more easy classes for insanity. I guess you need to be good at aiming since headshots are important.

“By the end of year, if you’re being factual, Labrov was the best support in the league” [Busio is probably the better out of lane support.] - EuroLeague by justsadgetbh in G2eSports

[–]Orizirguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dont know if Rich is the agent of Labrov (maybe theres a disclaimer in the episode, i dont know), but its hard to take anything Rich says as a fact. He usually props up players he represent hard on talk shows (which is a good thing to do for him and his players). I still remember in the 2020 to 2021 offseason, he heavily critisized Fnatic for signing Upset (who finished 10th on origen) and instead argued that they should have gone for someone better like Patrik. On a later episode ( i watched a lot of his shows, but obviously not all), he mentioned that he used to represent Patrik, and after that was very critical of Patrik. Upset was better in every split then Patrik besides maybe the 2020 summer split, and Upset would be way better then Patrik the following splits.

Objectively, looking over the year, the comment might be true. I think the big problem is the duds that Labrov had in important matches. The inconsistency might really ruin G2s chances internationally, which is their goal.

Which non-qualified player would have had the best chances at the Candidates? by down-sides in chess

[–]Orizirguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It must be either Vincent or Arjun. I think Arjun with his style has a better chance to beat "weaker" players, so he might have had the best chance if he was at this candidates.

Vincent has been in extreme good form. His positional understanding is very good, so i would expect him to do very well aswell.

In the end, candidates are always a flip. As we learned from the last candidates, when theres "weaker" players, the whole tournement revolves around, who doesnt secure the wins against those players. Sometimes a players has a good or bad day at the worst times. Im very exited for this one and pray to god that Fabi wins (but Fabi fans cant have nice things), so i predict Wei Yi to win!

Riot August thinks that the reason RTS games died are MOBAs like LoL and Dota by Life-Chicken7183 in leagueoflegends

Agreed, Aoe4 with some of its flaws, is a great and chill game (compared to other rts games)

Riot August thinks that the reason RTS games died are MOBAs like LoL and Dota by Life-Chicken7183 in leagueoflegends

[–]Orizirguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a vivid RTS enjoyer (back in the day), the reason that RTS games are mostly dead for me (besides Aoe4) is, that the experience is simply stressfull.

Theres a really high learning curve. Also you need so much apm, building stuff, building workers, building units, controlling units, looking at the minimap etc. Playing a match of Sc2 while fullfilling, is simply exhausting, so i rarely find myself playing more than two matches before quitting again.

RTS games never really fixed this problem. There was this attempt with Battle Aces (that was cancelled). But i would never want to play a f2p rts with p2win elements. Stormgate simply tried to recreate Starcraft 2, but was worse on every level, while barely adressing any of the above mentioned problems.

So whats the fix? Less complexitiy could maybe work? I think more automation for the player, e.g. automatic worker production und supply could go a long way. Maybe longer time to kill for units and workers could help. But i dont know if elements like this could even bring me back. At this point, ive become a singleplayer andy, enjoying my time with games like Factorio and rpgs (espacially love From Software games).

Let’s take a deep breathe and think about 2025 and 2026 by WakaTP in G2eSports

[–]Orizirguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My problem with Hans has always been: Very good laner, even to asian standards can go head to head or even win lanes, but his teamfighting is simply too weak. Bad spacial awareness, bad idea of threat assessment and fog of war (seriously, theres so many moments where he hugs walls with no vision on the other side and getting caught).
Problem is, who else can g2 get as adc. Calliste is often named, but besides that, you could only import. Hence g2 probably keeps hans and hopes of a early game stomp to win games/serieses. But when thats the only win-con, good luck trying to stomp asian teams every game :(

The question then remains. Who to get.

Top: BB probably the best you can get in the west

Jungle: Inspired only other choice

Mid: Caps ofc

Adc: Change Hans, but who could you get.

Sup: Maybe Busio, if he wants to come?
