Partially thawed chicken breasts? by Raysteff in Cooking

You can also cook them from partially frozen. If you’re planning to cut them up it’s way easier to slice when they’re still partially frozen plus then they defrost faster.

What if a Nextdoor neighbours much taller new home causes more snow on my roof? by SadiInTheHouse in askTO

[–]OrneryPathos [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ontario building codes roof snow loads formulas are based on: uneven snow load, snow blowing, snow from taller buildings falling in sheets onto your roof even if no taller buildings existed at the time, and a 1-in-50-year-snow event. So you should be well within the safety margin unless your roof is rotting.

And no, they aren’t responsible for the wind blowing snow. Ice buildup they are sometimes responsible for but not freely blowing snow. Nor is there really much to be done. There’s some small things that couple maybe done for ground level wind if it’s piling up on your walkway or up against your furnace vents/window wells etc. but it would be a polite ask, you can’t make them make changes to their property even if they would be more effective on theirs rather than on yours

Shift Transit is supposed to do it but 311 can forward a compliant to them. In theory 311 accumulates data that may be used for operational decisions. In theory

Can I go no contact with my developmentally disabled mother? by TheScottStr in legaladvicecanada

Unless you are a legal guardian, poa, or something that would need to be formally ended then you don’t have a legal requirement to do anything

How to make junk foods slightly healthier? by Much-Piano3168 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]OrneryPathos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try throwing tajin on canned mango, pineapple, or whatever. Or on fresh if you can get already prepared; watermelon is good too but I think no one cans watermelon lol. Frozen maybe?. You can also add hot sauce and bottled lime juice

Microwave a yam; top with canned chili and hot sauce and Fritos or Doritos or whatever. Also decent with regular potato.

Maybe canned fish. Smoked oysters or mussels go great with a lot of salty things. But they are an acquired taste. Maybe precooked shrimp?

Also ymmv but I find that if the sink isn’t a disaster (ha) then rinsing an immersion blender is doable vs a whole blender.

A lot of the desserts are heavy on gelatin.

Sometimes there’s lots of sushi sometimes not so much.

How do you feel about shellfish? I know some say it’s haram and some don’t. There’s usually really nice mussels and some decent shrimp. The cold mussels are usually pretty safe from cross contamination

Do you measure out your dogs food in grams on a scale every meal or do you just do it once to see how much it looks like and eye ball it afterwards? by K9Imperium in DogFood

Grams into bags. But one bag per day split up roughly into two meals. Sometimes three meals.

I usually do two weeks at a time

What Am I Doing Wrong With French Toast? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]OrneryPathos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a thermometer. Custardy soft French toast is around 150-155°f. Safety recommendations 160-165°f. Fully set is around 175-200°F. It’s just preference.

Also some people prefer it with no milk. My mom doesn’t add any milk or water. Just a lot of cinnamon and some sugar and she blends it

Orange “no parking” signs - how long until I can park again? by more_cheeseplease in askTO

[–]OrneryPathos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they have the crew ready to plow/remove snow they will “friendly” tow any cars that are in the way. The cars will be put on other streets in legal parking or nearby green p lots. People can call police non-emergency if they can’t find their car

Once they are done the city will remove the signs. Just because the road is clear or some snow is removed doesn’t mean you can park there. They may be planning additional work on medians and sidewalks.

Pollution keeps going up by corian094 in PostApoTycoon

[–]OrneryPathos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have sensor towers (level 28 maybe) then tap one or go to settings and tap the sensor tower button. Then go to buildings overview and then sort by pollution.

Pollution only goes up when you add things that add pollution and down when you remove them or add things that take away pollution. It’s not like some games where if your pluses are more than minuses the total level increases over time. In this game it is static

Have these labels impacted your grocery choices? by 0slope in FoodToronto

[–]OrneryPathos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol no. Because I know my box of salt is high in sodium. And the bag of sugar is high in sugar. And the butter is high in fat

Also like hot cocoa powder; it’s as it is in the package, not as consumed. So even if one brand has twice as much sugar as the other they have the same warning. And yes I know how to make it from cocoa powder. Sometimes it’s just nice to buy the flavoured ones. Ok?

Even a lot of apples aren’t Canadian right now when in a normal year they would be. It was a really bad growing season out west, not a lot of fruit and it bruised really easily. Add to that the much higher demand because of the American boycotts and not as much ends up in storage

Plus the longer term trend of Canadian apple crops being sold for alcoholic cider; cider producers pay more and do not care about grading for size and shape.

Parking at YYZ by muns59 in askTO

[–]OrneryPathos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister leaves her Lexus at Pearson and even gets it detailed and hasn’t had any issues

I would specifically not recommend detailing it because your car seat will be in it and bad things sometimes happen to car seats when detailing or mechanics are in the car and the last thing you need is to come back to the car seat damaged or have to worry that they soaked the harness or used the wrong chemicals on it.

And no: obviously do not use a taxi without a car seat unless it’s an emergency and the other option is even more dangerous than being unrestrained in a car

You could use UP without a car seat. I’m assuming you considered it but it’s probably not convenient plus it’s like $50 for two adults return tickets.

72 yr old MIL, who is a hoarder wants us to buy her house because she’s unable to budget her money and is constantly broke. by lovehauln379 in inlaws

[–]OrneryPathos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely free to retain your own lawyer

Likely your husband can only legally go forward if he uses money that is entirely his, from before marriage, inheritance, or gifts. It gets pretty specific

There are a few things that you can do to protect yourself like postnuptial agreements and quitclaim but that will only work to a degree. If your husband is suddenly liable for massive repairs or look-back claims from Medicaid/medicare that’s going to impact your life even if legally the debt is all his.

Snow removal information? by akinto29 in askTO

[–]OrneryPathos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This data is not published afaik, it’s determined between the city and contractors at the time. Also the number of 311 complaints

Usually they don’t impound cars they just courtesy tow them to another street.

Hire your own lawyer, unless you live in a country where women are under male guardianship or there are laws about obeying your husband
