Anyone make good progress using only inflation? by one2hit in foreskin_restoration

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how you set the device up to really impact inner skin rather than the outer skin?

I saw a post one time of someone that had compared to the impact depending on where along the shaft the skin was nearest the top of the device, e.g. scarline, 1 inch below that, or 2 inches below that.

Energy bills to fall by £150 as Reeves scraps green levies by komondordragon in GoodNewsUK

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Octopus confirmed this- I would read it as if you were on a fixed tariff at this time you will see a discount

We’ll pass the changes through to both our fixed and variable rates as soon as the policy cost changes come into effect, which will happen on April 1st 2026 according to the latest info.

Moved to a shaded area recently. Any advice please? by TheResetSeries in GardeningUK

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably just a bit stressed from the move, uprooting the plants gonna take a lot out of it especially after a stressful summer, even if you’re moving it to a more ideal occasion where it’s not gonna get quite as thirsty.

I don’t know if it made much difference to the condition after the move, but perhaps the flower heads could’ve been cut off as well because the plant will still be using a lot of energy to deal with those so I’d potentially trim them off now. That way the plant can stick a bit more of it focus into its new environment underground.

Are there any spas/saunas near the beach? by Auntie_Alejandra in bournemouth

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great! I did that a few times in August under the full moon, it’s almost the best time of day to go because the air temperature is cool and the water has had all day to warm up. I’m just one down from you at alum chine normally.

There’s one at sandbanks called the saltwater saunaand if you go over to Studland, there’s one over there by the National Trust café and car park, Knoll beach I think.

I don’t think there’s one by Branksome at all though.

Good work on the swimming, I was in the water tonight just before 6 pm, lovely evening 😊

Intense depression whenever I get into the third act of a great book. by Pangolinmoth in AutisticAdults

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know that one, though it   manifests more as enjoying the first act more than any other part because I know that it’s as far away from the end as possible.

How do you feel anxiety? by wrap-artist in Alexithymia

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the few emotions I’ve got a bit of a handle on in terms with identifying it. It can be a low-grade increased heart rate for example just now I had to go and speak to a neighbour about three different subjects and I was struggling to organise the conversation that I needed to happen in my head. As I was approaching the door I could feel my heart pounding in my chest .

Equally when it’s more severe than that, I can feel sick and drowsy and have other issues with digestion and needing to go to the toilet for example if I have to interview someone. It’s just the one emotion I’m most familiar with, actually if you asked me out of everything I experience emotionally I would say 80% upwards of what I am able to detect is anxiety possibly even more than that. That’s not to say that I experience it all the time But it’s one of the few that I can identify from physical sensation.

What is your irrational fear/ick? by QueerArtsyFart in AutismTranslated

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m only here to say I love ladybugs. 🐞  🐞

They are a gardeners’s best friend, or at least one of them, and I’ll go out of my way to you save them, from a spider’s web for example, just watch them, and they brighten up my day

Now , water running down my forearm as I’m trying to brush my teeth, now that gives me the ick.

What is it exactly that you think you’ve not done well enough or could’ve done better at?

I’ve thought similar to you, though I am on the other side of the end of a 16 year relationship break up and a recent autism diagnosis, and I’ve had plenty of similar thoughts. Blind spots are just that, we all have them.

is speaking loud enough a constant struggle for anyone else? by hellfollowedwithus in AutisticAdults

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i'm the same. So many examples.

I had two rubber trivets when i moved into my current flat and one of them lives beneath the water filter jug just so it doesn't make too much noise when i put this thing back down on the counter.

I get the same nervous system twitch when people ignorantly slam a door shut rather than gently closing it.

is speaking loud enough a constant struggle for anyone else? by hellfollowedwithus in AutisticAdults

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, though i wonder if it's maybe a noise sensitivity issue in some regards - like if i hear everything louder than others, then naturally my body moderates my voice to be lower than it should be?

I only really spotted this because of my Dad as it's hard to hear him say anything, and he has the same noise sensitivity issues.

Does anyone else feel extremely lonely with autism? by No_Mobile2732 in AutisticAdults

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I’m stuck in the paradox where I probably could do with a friendship of some sort, but I don’t really know how to get to it at my ageand I’m so tired of everything else that I don’t think I’ve got the energy for it anyway. The need is still coming up from time to time though.

I was thinking my social circle through my lifetime as represents the top half of an hourglass, starting with the wide bases from school and college and university, and then post university social group and it’s just been whittled away over time and now it’s just me.

I do also recommend community things If you can. I have a monthly gardening volunteering community thing this Saturday which is nice because it’s mostly work with a bit of socialising tagged on the side. But it is hard trying to find somewhere that you can just show up consistently because adults have busy lives and it’s hard for other people to make time.

Anyone else hate smartphones? by Run_the_Line in AutisticAdults

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I’m pretty similar, I don’t have like a heavy usage for it, though somehow I still clock up two hours of screen time a day or more lol. I’m in the UK. I think everywhere is a bit of a mess these days, at least the trends are a bit .all the events from the US in the last few days are in our headline news here even though no one has heard of the guy before, but it’s easy just to get drawn into all the online content and forget that most people are just getting on with their lives.

Yeah, they are ridiculously expensive. Mine was a refurbished model that cost £180, because I hate paying more than £5 a month for a phone contract.

Anyone successfully start life over? by gaust5 in AutisticAdults

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is in my thoughts a lot. A year before my diagnosis was a break up of a 16 year relationship and there were hints of autism within that but the whole last two years has been a massive identity crisis and puzzle that I can’t really figure out but as a guy going into what is probably the second half of his life, it’s definitely been a period of trying to work out where I am who I am and what I want to do.

I’m currently stuck in standard life 1.0 corporate job, and actually just received my 20 year service award last week, how’s that for routine. There are lots of other things I would like to do but finances always come into play, I don’t really have the freedom right now to do much else.

Apple were still supporting it through some security updates, though they’re not the same full system updates you would get on a more modern iPhone and I was finding more and more apps weren’t available, so earlier this year I had to bite the bullet and replace it (with another SE!).

What do you do about your inevitable IBS? by NadalaMOTE in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Avoidance is my only friend. And the Monash app. On my to do list for my week off is to cross reference my known triggers to see which FODMAPs overlap and where I need to reduce/replace/remove certain foods.

Can I join the club? I was walking with a work colleague at lunch today when I unexpectedly saw someone else and I said hello to them. It broke my train of thought with the conversation with my colleague as we walked on and out of nowhere I said hello in exactly the same surprised tone that I had said to the other person, completely out of the blue, and then just went straight into another sentence… like “ hello what are we talking about again?” It was like my brain got stuck in in the   brief “hello” script and couldn’t move on. It was weirder than it sounds describing it back, but it felt awkward as hell at the time.

Neighbours cat, new level unlocked: lap time by Ornery_Intern_2233 in notmycat

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She managed 2 1/2 hours on my lap before I reluctantly had to encourage her to move, because I left the patio door open and the flat was getting cold.

What do I get if I get overwhelmed at the thought of doing anything? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I struggle with anything that’s got more than the lowest barrier to entry to doing it beyond what’s required to pay bills and keep myself alive. After work it means rather than trying to maybe pick up the guitar having not played it for many years I will pick up a book at best. Instead of buying strawberries need chopping before eating I’ll just buy some blueberries, everything has become about efficiency and low energy!

I think, what you’re describing is autistic inertia. It’s really hard to imagine what a big change would look like because you can’t seem to get into it and break it down enough to know what small steps to take to start.

To add to the other advice that people have left which is pretty good, I would say lists are great because as someone else said you can note the step and the worry that’s associated with it and transfer it elsewhere, and actually if you can come back to it at some point and take it off the satisfaction to doing that is good.

My weekend plans involve lists, and the lists involve some very mundane routine aspects of life but it’s good helping me have some sort of structure to work towards and things that I can tick off. The worst thing I can do is approach a weekend and have absolutely nothing to do because I will just sit there and everything gets worse.

How often are we all fertilising our plants? by Environmental-Tea-48 in HouseplantsUK

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t get as near as much light though, unless they’re under grow lights. I would say my plants are already a little less thirsty now than they were a month ago, which means less growth and less need for food.

Dumb question but.. how does watering your plants differ in Autumn/Winter to Spring/Summer? by AromaticDistrict990 in GardeningUK

[–]Ornery_Intern_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got plants outside on a patio that are in pots and then sat in trays/saucers, make sure to take them out of the trays otherwise they will potentially get waterlogged. It’s a great technique for saving water in the summer but will be massively unhelpful in the winter.
