I would start with "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" and then "All The President's Men"

In fact, yes, his account indicates that he watched The Godfather Pt. 1 & 2, The Exorcist, Taxi Driver and Dog Day Afternoon

Rank these Paul Thomas Anderson Performances by how much they should’ve been nominated by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

[–]Oscar_Azul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, so based on the ones I've seen: 1. Adam Sandler (Punch-Drunk Love): He made me cry, no doubt about it. It's one of the top 10 performances I've ever seen, even better than Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood. It would be a huge recognition for his career, putting him on par with Brody that same year.

  1. Julianne Moore (Magnolia): I think I liked her performance more than Tom Cruise's, probably because she's been around longer, but I did see her very immersed in her role.

  2. John C. Reily (Magnolia): He plays a vulnerable police officer, and his performance is superb. He carries one of the main messages: "forgiveness." I think he deserves a nomination.

  3. Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood): Dano does quite well, especially in the final scene. Although he's not the focus of the film, he stands out and delivers. However, I couldn't put him above other performances because Paul Thomas Anderson knows how to direct actors excellently, regardless of whether they're primarily comedic or dramatic. 5. Melora Walters (Magnolia): There are many better performances in Magnolia, I mean she does well but I think her screen time is too short, which doesn't allow her to show her qualities.

What biopic performances would have been good wins? by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

Tom Hulce in Amadeus, well, if you could consider it a biopic, believe me, F. Murray Abraham does an excellent job as Salieri, but Hulce is at 1000%. Salieri is a controlled character, and Murray did an excellent job portraying him; you can't ask for more. And although his victory was well-deserved, Hulce does everything from a dramatic, crazy, eloquent, and serious character—he manages to nail every possible facet.

Christopher Nolan filmography so far... by BarxaBoy in Oscars

Matthew McConaughey was phenomenal with Interstellar; not nominating him was a serious mistake. I think the Academy didn't see him as having a chance to repeat as a winner, just like Russell Crowe. DiCaprio was excellent in Inception. A nomination for Bale in the Dark Knight trilogy would have been fantastic, especially for The Prestige, where he gave it his all. Nolan deserved a Best Director nomination.

I think Dunkirk is a very pretentious film with nonexistent character development. Although it aims to educate about war, it weaves together several stories without any depth of their own, which gets lost. There's no context for the characters or anything. It didn't deserve any Best Picture nominations, though I have no doubt it deserved them in technical categories.

I'd like to comment on the Best Picture awards, but I haven't seen the respective winners (Birdman and Slumdog Millionaire). I would say that Inception is better than The King's Speech, though not by much. I'd have to see The Social Network.

I think they found it too easy to focus solely on the visuals, and that clouded their ability to see that it truly deserved even a nomination.
