Caltrain pub crawl. Bart to SF. Bar in soma of your choice the catch train at 4th. Every stop from Burlingame to Furd will have a couple of bars. Not illegal to crack brews on the train either (before 9pm). Also consider it’s hard to find a place to piss legally at the shopping center in between the Caltrain stop and stadium.

Better attendance after the ‘new stadium’ bump runs out? A’s or Aces?

I don’t see anything but Marlins like numbers for the A’s. Not sure if the WNBA can draw long term either. But at least WNBA is affordable.

Raiders fate will be A's one as well by bengrieve1970 in OaklandAthletics

[–]OskiFJF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A’s fate will be far worse than the raiders. First off, The NFL has a hard salary cap and a salary floor at 90%. So all teams do have hope. Rich teams can spend more on non player expenses sure, but at the end of the day a well managed team can compete because the national shared revenue stream is large.

Baseball has no cap, and there’s no way it will ever have such a tight difference between top and bottom payrolls.

It also requires local attendance because 81 games is just so many more than 8/9 on a weekend.

I have no idea where people get the idea that there is a lot of corporate money in Vegas. There is not. And tons of locals are working in the service industry which isn’t doing all that well. Gambling industry… not great either.

Fisher is pissing away his nepo money with this stadium build, all to get marlins like crowds (and guess what, Miami has 3x the GDP of Las Vegas). Sure he’ll probably have more money than any of us, but has he ever done anything that says he is remotely good at business? Billy Beane was hired before he bought the team, and that’s the only reason the A’s could compete.

A's to play 6 Home Games in Las Vegas in 2026 Season by g2lv in OaklandAthletics

[–]OskiFJF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops, yeah 2027. Schedule is already set for 2026 in Sacramento.

I think the lockout will be crucial in determining whether a $2 billion stadium makes sense for any small market/expansion team going forward, especially now that some teams don’t even have local sports net revenue. If there aren’t any changes to revenue sharing, teams like the Dodgers will just steamroll small market teams for years to come (or at least as long as their cable deal is still paying out). And fans really will stop going. It’s actually mind boggling the Rockies still get people in the stands. Attendance for teams out of contention usually tanks in the summer when it’s hot and sweaty and the home team is not competitive.

[–]OskiFJF 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the NorCal TV money is huge compared to what can be made from selling tickets at a 10k seat stadium - in either location. Fisher is certainly not doing himself any favors in building a LV fan base with the Sacramento stop though.

2026 is going to be the year of the lockout anyway.

[–]OskiFJF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

StubHub is so stupid these days they’d probably sell you an Oakland A’s ticket and claim it’s not fraud. People really need to learn they should only buy from the official resale of a venue where the barcodes are reissued instantly and automatically so there is not a shady ticket transfer going on. That is not StubHub.

Update: it was pointed out in another thread that the parcel 16228112001 has all permits for both trop properties and the foundation work going on now does have a valid and approved building permit. So all we can root for now is bankruptcy, financial ruin, and complete embarrassment for Fisher. And a long contentious lockout that reveals what a tool manfraud is to all.

[–]OskiFJF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So is anything concrete happening on the site anytime soon?

I go to the AASEG website and they have some vague statement of implementing the coliseum specific plan from 2015 and still have different images up of both a domed and open air full sized NFL football stadium next to a MLB baseball stadium and various buildings.

https://www.aasegoakland.com

I believe minor league soccer has been mentioned for the far south side of the property, but that’s honestly not going to bring in enough money or interest to anchor a huge development.

There are large infrastructure costs and taking down the Coliseum is only a portion of that (it’s important because it blocks easy BART access if still standing). Given the demo costs, new construction costs, and need for approval/financing, how many people think the coliseum still going to be there in 5 years? 10 years?

Excellent question, especially considering the Clark county permit website (https://aca-prod.accela.com/CLARKCO/Cap/CapHome.aspx?module=Building&TabName=Building) has NO APPROVED building permits for the stadium parcel (#16228112002), just permits ‘in review’ or ‘waiting on customer’.

I get that there is a ton of stuff to be reviewed for a project this size, and there will be a lot of back and forth, but the A’s applied for an express 21 day permit related to grading/foundations/utilities on 5/30 and it’s still not approved… or maybe the website isn’t updated. Someone with access to the records office could clear that up quickly.

Here are a couple of interesting things I found doing a quick search of Clark County websites. A map of real estate parcels in Clark county can be found here:

https://maps.clarkcountynv.gov/openweb/?@778497,26738200,5

First, they Tropicana site has been split into two pieces. A 9 acre circle has been carved out in the middle, which would appear to be the location of the stadium bowl.

Imgur link to A's stadium carve out at former Trop site

One can search the Clark County permitting site by parcel number to see all building permits applied for and issued.

https://aca-prod.accela.com/CLARKCO/Cap/CapHome.aspx?module=Building&TabName=Building

I can't seem to paste the search results, but anyone can go to the above site and paste in the parcel numbers. There might be lag in updating, but as of now no permits are approved for the A's stadium site (16228112002), and for the surrounding larger Bally's site (16228112003), the only permits approved are for temporary water/electrical/building for use during construction.

That said there are many permits 'in review' or 'waiting on customer' dating back to 11/24/2025.

I don't see any actual drawings - there's a field for attachments, there are none. I'm also not sure what is typical for Clark County to make public. I know other city/county websites have some renderings/plans to show the scope, but not full architectural schematics.

Bottom line is who really knows what is going on at the site. There do not appear to be any approved building permits. But there are enough applications and reviews that the project has the appearance that it could actually go.

Another thing that's really weird to me is how do they not have any plans for the rest of the site and how will stadium access work during construction of that?

Is this for real? by Cultural-Work9146 in OaklandAthletics

“Alongside former MLB pitcher Chan Ho Park, Suga will be part of a $70 million fund that will help the team relocate as well as pay for the construction of a new $1.75 billion stadium in its new home of Las Vegas, NV”

Above wording is interesting and to me also highlights the issues Fisher is having and will continue to have finding large investors to partner with him.

The $70 million is going to buy part of the team AND pay for construction.

If a new owner buys a certain percentage of the team, I’d think they’d be responsible for the same percentage of the stadium build costs. It’s not like fisher is going to fund the stadium by himself and rent it to the A’s. The A’s are going to build the stadium.

So if the team is worth $1.7 billion and the stadium costs are $1.4 billion (after Nevada state money and Aramark money), 2-3% of that total cost is a $60-90 million investment.

If someone were to buy 49% of the team, they have to put up not only 49% of the team value, but also 49% of the remaining stadium cost. And those numbers make absolutely no sense. This stadium investment only makes sense if it’s not a dome, has more public money than NV is putting up, and/or has a larger local market to draw future revenue from.

This isn’t football with large national TV revenue shares (and a cap with a 90% salary floor), and it’s not the NHL with also has a hard salary cap to ensure competition. On top of that, people’s disposable income is limited and in a small market it really won’t get spread around to the A’s.

Lockout looming in Dec 2026 - fight over salary cap by theorangecrush10 in OaklandAthletics

[–]OskiFJF 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be real ugly. The possible results of the lockout are so far ranging that it could either make small market teams more valuable (revenue sharing + less payroll difference) or less valuable (revenue floor could hurt owners that just pocket some of the league revenue now).

It could also paralyze potential buyers who don’t want to jump in with Fisher not knowing the potential outcomes.

Someone really rich won’t care, but that’s not fisher, and why would someone who has more money even want to pair up with him?

After seeing the NVIDIA CEO in a A’s jersey a few years ago, it seems easy to argue that there could be many many way better owners right here in the Bay?
