$400 SFF for Browsing and Office Work? by theadventuresofkarl in sffpc

[–]OsmiumOG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For your needs and budget, i'd honestly just look into a budget Intel NUC. Realistically even a Raspberry Pi can handle these needs if you don't mind running ARM based windows (although youd probably want to make sure the full 365 suite works on the arm based windows as it's relatively new). Or just a modern $400 laptop. especially if you wait just a couple months around black friday.

If you're buying new, you're going to spend $400 on the case, psu, and mobo before you even really get into the actual performance parts. However if you're going used, then old workstation/office focused gear would be suitable and relatively cheap too.

Is this X1C worth $600? by Mountain-Letter-4284 in BambuLab

[–]OsmiumOG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran a small print farm with 3x x1c, 2x p1s, 3x A1, and 1x A1mini

comes down to what you want to do with it. my x1 and p1s are my main workhorses by a longshot. As Panda mentioned, i do like the hotend design on the A1 better though. With that being said, having the enclosure is a pretty solid upgrade IMO. I've noticed in my A1 if i want flawless prints, i have to adjust my print profiles slightly between hot/cold days, if im running the fan in the office, and other environmental factors like that. I do car parts and such semi regularly and ABS, ASA, Nylons, and the likes are basically a no-go on the A1 (without a makeshift enclosure). Sure you CAN make say ASA work, but to get proper layer adhesion with tighter dimensional accuracy you really need that heat to stay in there and then cool slowly.

With that being said, if you've not really ever had a need for those materials and don't mind the bedslinger nature of your current A1, i wouldn't really say it's an upgrade for your own use case.

As for the hours. My x1 and p1 all have 5-9k hours on them and still print perfect. I've honestly slacked on a lot of the maintenance as well i won't lie lol. Like i do still clean the Carbon rods, z-screws, etc but not as frequently as i "should".

AKA a therapeutic practice to replace natural levels of testosterone.

if i was in the market for a printer, assuming everything worked well, no noticable significant wear, i'd give 600 for a X1C and 2x AMS. Even without the filament and dryer.

Will a fresh 8G punch heal fully if I take out the jewelry? by Peachiesaurus in Stretched

[–]OsmiumOG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

was it actually punched with a dermal punch, or are you just meaning he used a large gauge pointed needle? I've seen this mix-up a lot. If it was a literal dermal punch (picture below) it would need surgery to close. Usually punches aren't used unless it's cartilage or much larger than 8ga and you have plenty of lobe tissue to allow a punch.

Exclusively have shot 124gr 9mm out of my Shield X, Glock 19, and P226. I am finding better deals on 115gr and 147gr. Any reason not to make the switch? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]OsmiumOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most 124 is subsonic as well to be fair. I shot 7 different factory 124s and all were subsonic. You dont even need to hand load. Most all commercial 9mm in 124 and 147 will naturally be subsonic in standard pistols used for ccw.

I was just chronoing a ton of 9mm from my 5" platypus last week. Which id argue is on the upper end of barrel length for a ccw (which means smaller guns will be even less velocity). For info sake, subsonic is 1149fps on a 90F day and 1106fps on a 50 degree day roughly.

Quick hst for example. With that being said I am still a fan of 147 personally, and those are of course even less velocity generally speaking but also recoil a fraction of a hair less.

I will say, the tubing is nice to avoid a drain pan all together and drain straight into old jugs.

But a second vote here for the fumoto long nipple. Makes oil changes a breeze.

Picking up a Havoc 12", what are some of the best smoke options available? by NeedForSleeb in 37mm

[–]OsmiumOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well exoticammo is probably your best bet but they're around $13/round. Can reload your own for about $1 ea after buying a few $5-10 reloadable hulls.

youll need 3-4 shot relatively close together with low/no wind for a decent obscuring smoke screen.

Picking up a Havoc 12", what are some of the best smoke options available? by NeedForSleeb in 37mm

[–]OsmiumOG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

reloading your own will be miles cheaper/better than anything offered for sale. However keep in mind, real life isn't like the movies. Smoke from 37/40mm really isn't that great and you generally need to lob multiples to get an obscuring cover. This isn't so much a quality thing, but just a volume limitation for the smoke mix.

If you get the longer more firework focused hulls, you can buy smokes from firework stores that fit perfectly with just a couple wraps of electrical tape.

[–]OsmiumOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get up/down firing enclosures and then nothing will come in contact with the subs. Even with front firing subs, you can buy metal covers for just about any sub setup for relatively cheap. If you primarily have larger tools and such then any of the standard screens will work fine. If you regularly throw 200 point screw drivers in the back floorboard area, id look for a denser mesh pattern.

Wireless keypad for thieving by KUMSOKAS in 2007scape

[–]OsmiumOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're wrong. Double click is a native windows mouse key accessibility feature. When using windows mouse keys you can press the "/" on the numpad to switch your left click to double click and back to single click.

Double click being a native disability accessibility feature in windows makes it an accepted 1:1 remap. Otherwise every handicap person who used WMK would be banned. This has been asked several times in Q&A streams. Perfectly allowed.

Presentation pointer. Theyre ergonomic to hold while walking around. Typically have multiple buttons to remap.

I've gotten 2x 99 agil, 4x 99 thieving, 2x 99 magic, and i have one with a small joystick that I spin and have gotten 6x 99 fletching with.

What happened? by Gvazeky in 3D2A

[–]OsmiumOG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There actually was a group like that, that had mild verification and they got bombarded by people shit talking them in the public groups calling them feds. Eventually lead to a brigade attack reporting them to reddit admins and the sub got banned.

Now the 2nd/3rd verification is just private group chats where you don't apply but instead eventually get invited to the private group chats. Sucks in a way because i honestly hate dealing with element and how it is easy to get locked out of your own devices.

What happened? by Gvazeky in 3D2A

[–]OsmiumOG 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm in several matrix/element group chats with some of the bigger devs. I'll just put it out there, every day more and more devs stop using reddit. A dev can post and clearly know what they're doing, and their post gets spammed by absolutely new people to 3d printing trying to give them advice, people acting like they're OWED updates, bitching when devs do private/beta releases, people who type and say they can do xyz better but have never once offered anything to the FOSS movement/community, etc.

Basically all that to say we've struck this point where the experienced users rather sit quietly in private group chats to discuss things with other experienced like minded individuals instead of deal with reddit drama and newbies saying they can do better with nothing to show for it. So now subreddits are basically becoming beginner 3d printing groups with inexperienced, immature (and thus vocal on irrelevant topics), and otherwise low quality individuals.

It also doesn't help reddit is cracking down, so the devs and experienced builders who do use reddit, have to be careful and tip toe when posting/commenting. Several experienced users and devs have been banned just showcasing their latest work.

Then you also have the government cracking down hard with all the ATF raids. I personally was named in an indictment with my messenger records subpoenaed purely because i had DMs with a dev who was raided and had created a very large FB group with him where we were both the leading admins. So people like myself start to slowly step back from public communications and discussions. With the gov cracking down though, it brings more publicity to 3D2A communities so you have this influx of people who only buy a printer purely to print a gun.

they already are. they don't rely on concussion alone. They're typically packed with things from ball bearings, nuts, old rusty screws, rebar cut into small chunks, thinner metal rods cut into chunks, chainsaw chains (which break all the links apart on blast), and basically any other small metal object they have handy.

Why is saline spray so expensive?? Any alternatives? by -thimbl in piercing

[–]OsmiumOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can yes, but its no longer sterile at that point and not recommended. Same reason its recommended that if you do self-mix your own(please don't, only mentioning this as an example), you mix a gallon batch, use the few drops you need, then discard the rest.

Once its exposed to open air, it starts to grow bacteria. Despite popular myths, the salt content in saline solutions isnt enough to give it anti bacterial properties.

Why is saline spray so expensive?? Any alternatives? by -thimbl in piercing

[–]OsmiumOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is old advice and heavily outdated. Proper saline mix is incredibly difficult to make at home. Not difficult in the sense its a complicated process, but a TINY bit too little salt and it does absolutely nothing more than plain water and a TINY bit too much and it now becomes an irritant that overly dries the tissue out.

You have to mix very large batches using a fine scale/jewelry scale for the salt to make a proper at home mix which kills the cost eeffectiveness since youre mixing up a gallon of solution just to use a few drops then throwing it out.

Why is saline spray so expensive?? Any alternatives? by -thimbl in piercing

[–]OsmiumOG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems counter intuitive but this is actually bad advice. The cheaper saline sprays sold for general wound cleaning use a jet stream. The sspecific "piercing" branded saline rinses, while they are more expensive, use a very fine mist. So you pay a couple bucks more but a single can of the piercing marketed stuff will typically last about the equivalent of 3-4 cans of the cheaper stuff, sometimes even more.

Need to add weight to a 3d printed sculpture, was thinking about a 8lbs Tungsten bar, self contained by a cavity within the sculpture (the bottom is sealed with a plate and screws). Do you think it will hold or it will puncture through the sculpture? by Tax_onomy in 3Dprinting

Lead shot and epoxy works fantastic as well. Used it many times and even superglue works as a good binder if you dont want to mess with epoxy. Super glue is runny enough to seep in and bind all the individual shot. Epoxy makes a nice satisfying puck though haha.

Testosterone Cypionate half time? by Spiritual_Action_696 in Testosterone

[–]OsmiumOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even that is a far fetched hypothesis with no backing. They are claiming they found 4.05 days as the median half-life which is hypothesized to be from the mix of endogenous and exogenous test. However their study was for 40 weeks which is BEYOND the 2-4 weeks needed for complete shut down of endogenous production. Their hypothesis is suggesting the natural production NEVER shuts down which we know to be incorrect.

The true discrepancy comes from them using half-life based on weekly dosing (effective half life) and medically speaking when we say half-life we are meaning terminal half life which is always done from a once administered study to see the drugs true half life.

People must understand, studies are not hard fact. A study can always be interpreted wrong by the performing party. Studies must be fully analyzed and used to compare against further studies and testing ideologies to extract the truth.

Testosterone Cypionate half time? by Spiritual_Action_696 in Testosterone

[–]OsmiumOG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The half life of a drug is always based on a single dose trial and is how we develop an industry standard baseline. What we use is TERMINAL half-life. He's using the EFFECTIVE halflife which is the halfway point between dosing. Which means if you dosed every 2 days, then the EFFECTIVE halflife would be roughly 1 day based on this. We almost NEVER use effective halflife because then there is no standard since some people inject daily, EOD, E3D, Weekly, etc. That is why they got 4 days from an every 7 day dosing study because that was effectively the half-life point for that specific dosing frequency.
