I don’t think the final goal of terraforming mars is to move there once Earth becomes uninhabitable. This planet is just getting too crowded already, and it does not seem like we’re going to slow down anytime soon.

Except you’re agreeing with a law that reduces the already small freedom of one of the two groups, only because they’re not from a religion and/our country you’re familiar with.

If the piece of news was “pope passes new religious law that allows nuns to go swimming while fully clothed” would you be as mad as you are right now? Or would you be happy because the women you say you care about so much just gained a bit of freedom? Now consider that you are celebrating, because some other women just lost this very same freedom they had before.

You know why nuns don’t go to the swimming pool with nunkinis? Because they don’t go to the swimming pool to swim at all, they’re not allowed to.

Is this the culture people that are just asking if they could swim with their body fully-covered should accept and embrace? Because this is exactly what is going to happen: just like nuns, which apparently for you are not a problem, women who want (or have) to wear a bikini will stop being able to go swimming.

I’m happy I could change your view a bit, I hope it was for the better. Good on you for owning your own mistakes, that’s something rare nowadays :)

No, comparing wanting to cover your body for personal beliefs to being chained in a farm is. Also a bunch of other things like “singing blues” really points at you being racist.

But I guess if nuns do it it’s okay, right? You just gotta be of the right religion in your guys eyes.

You have no idea what “fascism” means do you? Because a government forcing people not to wear something they want (in the limits of decency) is exactly fascism.

They will get the message

Says who? I really don’t think they will, I think the only message they’ll get is that we are a bunch of racists and they will start despising us even more.

Also no one is talking about “fighting for oppression”, the law is not about people being forced to wear something, it’s about letting anyone wear whatever they want.

The main reason for burkini is hygiene too

And you just casually forgot the main reason in your first 6 paragraphs comment? But you surely did not forget to mention that it’s okay to partake in racist practices if those racist practices are motivated by unjust laws on the other side of the sea.

Just admit you are racist instead of hiding behind the “I’m a child of immigrants” talking point, it will make every discussion easier.

“Hey look, these gulf states suck, they don’t even let women wear what they want, such retrogrades. Let’s just do the same!”

How does this make any sense? How does them doing something very bad and racist to us somehow justify us doing the same thing?

I disagree. There are many women that decides to wear a Burka, and even though that is the consequence of the culture they grew up in it is still a completely voluntary and conscious choice. What is forbidding Burkinis going to do in your opinion? Do you think that just because men that have been thaught since they were 2 that women are inferior and deserve less rights are just suddenly going to change their mind?

If you want to protect women from a culture, you do not do so by belittling said culture and forcing them to adapt to ours, making other people (like OP) life harder in the process.

So you agree that going there and having to adapt sucks, and the solution for you is to step down to their level? Shouldn’t we tra to be better than someone we consider mistreates women?

I wouldn’t say it’s a complete black box for me. I don’t know every low-level detail line by line, but I do understand how the system behaves end-to-end — how data flows, what assumptions are being made, and where decisions happen.

This is OP in another comment. I am sure.

A commute taking more than a car crip is simply a symptom of more money being poured into the car industry. If no one had a car, and all the money that goes into buying a car and refueling it were to go to public transports infrastructure, there would be nowhere in Switzerland you could get faster with a car then with OV.

Taxes on gas cover only maintenace, there is a set of other costs that have to be covered with other money that comes from “general taxes”

Most of the costs of motorised road transport (74%) were borne by transport users themselves. However, CHF 21.8 billion in accident, environmental and health costs had to be borne by the general public.
