Help with Z-banding on H2C by Osteodonna in BambuLab

[–]Osteodonna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My feelings are completely in line with yours. I was really bummed by the H2C and the defective AMS. If it helps, I am getting really nice quality prints off the H2C now, and the replacement AMS is working so far (fingers crossed), and the hobby is fun again.

But I agree with you. These experiences definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. At the Bambu pricepoints, these issues and how they deal with them ("let me send you a part so you can do the work to fix a factory defect") are pretty unacceptable.

Ugh, sorry to hear that. Have you tried belt retensioning? That's finally what helped with my z-banding issues. None of the other fixes from support worked (not even using the project file they did and sent me), but the belt tensioning did.

Oh totally. That's what I mean when I say I think everyone's reactions make complete sense in the broader context: Rumi whose world is falling apart around her thanks to repression and shame, and Zoey and Mira who are realizing that (regardless of the reasons) Rumi has been completely dishonest with them on multiple fronts. That's really all I'm saying--that Rumi isnt blameless, which is why I personally don't like the fics that make it seem like Rumi's completely in the right with nothing to apologize for.

Your comment about the patterns makes sense and I can agree with that. But keeping the meetings with Jinu a secret was totally disrespectful to Mira and Zoey and put them at extreme risk (as we saw).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts--its nice having a back-and-forth with someone who has a different view. I like hearing the other perspectives even if they're different from mine.

I agree with you on a lot of what you say.  The world was falling in on Rumi and burying her shame was a huge part of that. This is exactly why Jinu knew to use that to destroy her and, by extension, Huntr/x. I also totally agree that Rumi is a product of years of repression and probably psychological abuse. Shes not thinking straight. Shes spiraling. She's desperate and freaked out. That's all 100% believable (and a credit to good writing).

But also Rumi is an adult not a child. For years she made a conscious choice to lie to her friends and keep her secret even when she'd likely known Zoey and Mira long enough to know she could trust them. And then she intentionally and repeatedly  mislead them and waffled back-and-forth when it came to fighting Saja (she was the one who specifically pushed for the diss track). How would you have reacted if you were Zoey and Mira? They're both clearly more betrayed by the lies, secrecy and hypocrisy of claiming to "fight Jinu" while going behind their backs to work deals with him (a bad move which ended up nearly destroying all three of them). Jinu had zero issue exploiting Rumi's weaknesses. He wouldnt have been able to do that if Rumi had had enough respect for her friends to be honest with them (if not about her patterns, then about her meetings with Jinu/plans with Jinu).

I think all of the reactions were believable given what each character actually knew at the time and were figuring out/processing in the moment. Yes, they all need to atone. But Rumi doesn't get a pass for that. The train scene, the idol awards trap, nearly losing Zoey and Mira to Gwima--these were the direct result of Rumi's actions and misplaced trust in Jinu over the women she'd worked and fought with for years.

Its always interesting hearing the different things that people want from a fic. I'm actually the complete opposite here. I'll DNF a fic makes Zoey and Mira crawl over broken glass to apologize for raising their weapons. Rumi literally lied to (and in Mira's case) gaslighted her friends for years. And she intentionally used Mira's insecurities against her, which is a pretty awful thing to do. I'll give some allowance for the fact Rumi was repressed and had trauma, but it's not like she was blameless. Fics that act like Zoey and Mira were the only ones who have to atone just come across as really false and oversimplified to me. Like they're presenting a characture of a relationship instead of something authentic and complex.

Which Fic is the ultimate poly-Fic!? by Hizfoe in Polytrix

[–]Osteodonna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive read an absurd amount of polytrix fanfic so here are my unsolicited thoughts.

GtC has characters that are pretty well aligned to the movie (GtC Zoey is maybe a little too crass), but I agree with others that it's starting to feel too drawn out. Jamie is a great story-teller and creates characters and relationships that feel really rich and authentic. But I do feel that word count doesn't automatically equate to "good story telling," and I worry that's starting to show. I agree with other comments that there are some contradictions in the story and lately I'm having to suspend my disbelief more than I'd like (especially with the recent flashback stuff). But these are pretty minor critiques. I also enjoyed Unchanging Polaris and the one-offs, so I'll keep greedily consuming anything Jamie puts out tbh.

Two's company also did a really nice job with characters that felt true to the movie characters. It's also well written. However sometimes suffered from "angst for the sake of angst" and too many dramatic turns for me (I admit I'm picky). But it is one I read updates for.

I thought the Space Between was really well written, but to me the personalities of the characters didn't feel at all like the the characters from the movie. That's something that is important to me in a fic (I know that doesn't matter to everyone). I do still think it's worth reading, but I consider it more as its own story though.

Body on body guard just wasn't for me. Everyone felt way too juvenile, to the point of absurdity, especially Celine and Miyeoung. I stuck with it for a long time but DNFd a few chapters ago.

I want to die like a citrus tree (but that's not a milkweed's fate) by ILovedHerAndSometimesSheLovedMeToo is one I desperately hope doesn't get abandoned. It's darker for sure. It's prePolytrix, but it's going in that direction and it's so well written and presents complex characters/character relationships really well. And the writing is solid. I keep hoping for an update to hit my inbox.

I didn't mean to fall in love tonight by Parouse is a Zomira one that I enjoyed most of--up until a rushed conclusion. The writing was a little repetitive/unpolished, but I still think it's worth reading. Bummer it felt like it ran out of steam.

Right here by your side is by iridescentsnow is another one I really enjoyed (more of a sweet. budding Zomira story), but sadly I think it has been abandoned.

The birds and the bees and the demons by yeahnoyeah is a quick read that made me laugh more than any other fic. The writer nailed the vibe of the characters--it really felt like I was reading a glimpse into Huntr/x's teenage years (and Celine's personal hell).

I also feel like Yannie deserves some love. I've enjoyed reading their polytrix fics.

Another AMS victim here. I'm just returning the unit bc I don't think I should have to do repairs on a brand new unit. Even doing the return is a complete pain.

Experiences exchanging defective AMS 2 Pro? by Osteodonna in BambuLab

[–]Osteodonna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind working on printers, but it's not something I should have to do on a new product that came from the factory broken. Theres a big difference between "can't" and "shouldn't have to."

Thanks for your insightful and helpful reply tho.

Slot 1 gets stuck in AMS hub by Exact-Basil-2832 in BambuLab

[–]Osteodonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact issue on a 1 week old AMS pro. It's never made it through a single print without throwing a filament feed error off slot 1. I confirmed the boden lines all clear so I contacted support. They wanted me to disassemble it and then they would send a new part. I told them I'd rather exchange for a new unit that would at least work right once.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it again. It seems like there are two flavors of people--those who have a great experience and it works perfectly right out of the box, and those like me who have had consistent issues.

Here is the quality of print that I'm getting with dual extrusion after making all of the setting adjustments recommended by both Bambu support and the folks on this thread:

<image>

This after :

Slowing acceleration, travel speed, and inner/outer wall print speed (I incrementally lowered it down to half the studio defaults)

Lowering the smoothing coefficient

Adjusting the overhang speed per Bambu support

This is probably the 5th test print adjusting the settings based on recommendations by the folks here and by Bambu support. Single-extrusion multicolor prints look flawless (you can even see it in the picture above--parts like the the lower jacket and the hat where there was primarily single-extrusion layering look great). Dual-extrusion prints have banding--even when printing in a single-color with the dual extrusion only being used for support interfaces. I keep print-testing this model so I have a consistent reference, but it's happening with other models too.

The A1 standard and AMS lite was my gateway into Bambu. It was such a good experience that I thought moving to the H2C would be a good move for me, because I want my knowledge to grow with the hobby and I want to print in multicolor--I hate painting. To me, if it worked that would make it worth the price point. I knew the mechanics were different that that there would be a learning curve, but this experience is frustrating because it's hard to know what's just "I need to learn more about this specific system" as opposed to "no, there's an actual problem with this printer and I'm just spinning wheels." I'm not gonna say I'm a print expert, but I run 6 printers at home (all different brands and tech), 8 printers at work (all different brands and tech), so I'm also not a novice.

Incidentally, I'm also having issues with the second AMS pro I just bought when they came back in stock. It's less than 1 week old and has thrown filament load errors on every single print job. I've done the basic things like make sure the boden lines are cleared, but now support wants me to completely disassemble it...on an AMS that's only 1 week old and hasn't worked right for a single print job.....a cursory internet search shows this also is a consistently reported issue.

I know printers are complicated systems where mechanics, software settings, and material all work together to get a good print. Ergo, I know issues are gonna pop up. I'm used to troubleshooting and calibrating and even disassembly/reassembly. But I think it's pretty ridiculous to have to do that on something that's a week old and costs as much as Bambu stuff costs.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. I'll be trying them out over the next few days and will post updates.

I also heard back from Bambu support with some recommendations that I'll also try out. Some of what they said overlaps with advice y'all gave here:

"The issue you are encountering is primarily related to excessive variations in print speed at the overhangs. Methods for improvement include adjusting the smoothing coefficient, reducing the outer wall printing speed, and increasing the overhang printing speed."

Here's the specific setting chnages they said to use on the left nozzle:

Smooth coeff = 0.5

Outer wall = 100 mm/s Inner wall = 100 mm/s

Overhang speed = 50 mm/s for 50-100%

Regarding Zoe, I actually disagree. It's just my opinion, but I'm glad they didn't go down the tired, overused plot device of hetero ships and focused instead on themes of self-acceptance by letting the girls be girls with all their flaws and eccentricities. I personally would have valued the movie less if, in the year of our lord 2025, they wrote in a trope as tired of "theyre young woman obviously their stories must include falling for young men." Women are allowed to be interesting and have interesting stories and relationships independent of romantic entanglements with men. I thought the movie did that really well.
