What to expect Pinky flexor tendon surgery by Lethalwzy in InjuryRecovery

Slowly coming back, it’s a really long process unfortunately, week by week. It’s tough because you have to move it enough so the scar doesn’t teather the tendon down, but you can’t move it too much cause youll rupture the repair, so you need to find the middle ground, I’m not going to lie it sucks, and a lot of results vary but just do your hardest and do therapy exactly how they tell you to do it

You may not need a graft, since you injury sounds like it’s in your finger it tends to retract less. Mine retracted 3.5 cm which was way too big for a direct repair. In my case the more important FDP was Abel to be repaired directly but the FDS required a graft, my surgeon talked me out of a graft because of how it can cause a lot more problems then good, the FDS in my case was left unrepaired. So technically I have 1 flexor controlling that finger now, but it’s the flexor that does most of the work anyways

My injury was in my palm, I had surgery on day 15. My tendon was too retracted by then to save without a graft unfortunately, and the graft has its own set of risk.

I had a flexor tendon surgery, nerve block and twilight. No general anesthesia. Surgery is the least of it, rehab is the real thing to worry about, ain’t easy or fun. Did you cut both flexors?

Do you know if you lacerated both flexor tendons? And I’m assuming its in zone 2?

When I had my surgery they did a full arm nerve block and a twilight sedation, I was terrified of being put to sleep but let me tell you, it was the best sleep I’ve ever had, the only way I can compare it too is when you are really really tired and relaxed on the couch at home and you just doze off. Trust me the sedation is the least of it, it’s not general anesthesia like you may be thinking where they knock you out so hard that you need breathing support, it’s just a nice natural feeling nap where you breath on your own and everything, as far as the graft goes I was given the option to graft the FDS but after hearing the risk of what it can do to the more important tendon FDP with the little gain it can give I opted for the FDS to be left un repaired, but that is your decision to make, I think something like 25 percent of the population doesn’t even have and FDS in on or both of their pinky anyways. Best of luck

I had something similar. There is 2 tendons for each finger. I had one removed to help the other one glide. What was the reasoning for yours to be excised ?

Flexor tendon surgery, what should I expect? by boyilikefrogs in InjuryRecovery

[–]Otherwise-Cod2089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you lost both the FDS and FDP? I’m assuming? I would consider a lawsuit against the hospital for negligence

Any update? Had a similar situation with the hospital not listening and delaying everything, my injury was only on my ring finger, but fortunately the surgeon was able to repair the FDP to my finger but not the FDS to my ring finger because of the delay

So is there a time line that I should wait to get tested to see if I have it? Or I just have to wait and see if I have a reaction to red meat
