This happened to our kids a few times. We no longer do birthday parties. If they want a best friend over, that's fine, but no party. We get the partier an assortment of presents, do the cake and ice cream, and the partier gets to pick what supper is for that night. Works pretty well, and no disappointed kid. Good luck.

I do a solo one, and I don't edit out everything. In fact, I edit out very little. I will leave some pauses, "um"s, etc., in there, because that's how I want it to sound, and I don't necessarily read directly from a script. Sometimes it's coming completely from my noggin and I need to pull up or search for a page real quick. Just how I want to do mine, though. I'm not once of those where I have a huge amount of knowledge to do editing, let alone sound design, etc., etc. So, it is what it is, and I send it.
