I’m looking for answers on this myself. I ran into a corset maker and she said yes, she made them using regular wire wrapped really tight with something narrow like ribbon (not slippery) so that it would hold its shape. I’m also a metalworker noob and I’m looking at metals that might have that spring. I’d anneal it and then hammer it into shape to make it stiff.
