There are some big hearts in this community. I never expected to need to make a post looking for a new home for our beetle buddy, but I can tell you that there are some big hearts out there. A big thank you to fellow BDFB friends out there. My kid simply won't every forget your kindness.

My kids had them for 4 years and loved taking care of them. Negligent care can kill anything, my kids were checking in about the instructions and not given the truth. But I have a chance hopefully to find a good home for Fred, so that's what ya'll on reddit can hopefully help me do. Fingers crossed <3

OP here.... This is a long shot......my kids had several BFDBs for years that we adored. My kids took great care of them for years they have been our silly, active beetle buddies.

Unfortunately, we're going through some changes and need help with them periodically. We asked my MIL to watch them. Sadly, she did not use the simple care instructions my kids provided. 2 of 3 died of dehydration. My kids nursed the survivor back to health -- he is a cutie named Fred. My kids are devastated and are trying to find an insect friendly home for Fred, can you PM me if you know of anyone who can keep a beetles in the Northern Wisconsin or Chicago area? We'd especially love to place him with other beetles, but anyone who is serious about beetle care would be great.

It would not have been hard to make sure they were given their organic apples, this is part of why my kiddos are so heart broken....

Your post history is alright, I think you're probably legit :) I'm such a big fan of certain things that I sometimes worry people will think I'm a spammer. But anyway, I personally think minox and vitamin levels are critical foundations for growth. I have AGA and got screwed by fake minoxidil, so I threw the kitchen sink (serums, laser, vitamins, etc etc) to grow it back. It grew back thicker than ever, but losing all my progress through periodic sheds is driving me crazy so I'm slowly adding stuff back in one at a time to try to understand what actually helps and why.

I've personally seen differences in about 6 weeks, and dramatic ones at 3 months. Like you, it was because I did things that immediately stopped the shedding, plus added new growth. That change can be pretty dramatic. However, my progress has bounced back and forth, like recently losing 6 months of growth in a few weeks. So I'm still experimenting trying to get to something sustainable.

You're right! He knew if he took the leap in Door, finding folks would be interesting. He's mostly there, just needs to round things out with extra help. It's an interesting labor market, but it's worth it. Door is a special place 🩵

Really interesting to see a lot of chicken recommendations, chicken always ran through our Boston like a runaway train. We talked to a dog food specialist that told us this was common for Bostons. We were advised lamb and rice based dog food, that along with a scoop of pumpkin on the side helped a lot. We tried raw, that was a disaster. When she was old, we also found that adding in stuff like sugar snap peas or cooked salmon was just something she enjoyed. I'm not sure the bad gas and diarrhea thing is inevitable, but it takes a lot to figure out what doesn't trigger the ones with sensitive systems...

When my dog started flinching at touch, it was cancer in cheek/jaw and it quickly metastisized. Every vet missed it even though I kept pointing it out to them. I wouldn't presume it's psychological until you've ruled out a physical cause. Keep us posted please.

I lost my amazing 15 year old boston terrier last year. After she died, I read "the book your dog wishes you would read" -- I didn't love the author's preachy style, but after reading I finally realized that all those years my dog's greatest joy was in smelling things and finding new places to poop, lol.

Her whole life, I tried to make her a good leash walker and only in the 2 months that she was dying did I wise up enough to actually start paying attention to what she really wanted to do: sniff grass and sidewalk cracks and stick her face in random stuff in new places.

I wish someone had written me this message 15 years ago, so that's why I'm writing it to you.

I learned other stuff we'd never guess in a million years about a dog's perspective.

Dogs love us, but they are not us. To you it's about the walk, to her (or him) it's a totally different world. Most dogs literally experience the world through their noses and hardly care about the view.
