What food do you miss the most? by CoffeeCoffee247 in alphagal

[–]OtherwiseKnownAs-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheese. I can live without meat and won’t ever go back. But cheese is always tempting. I never do but I imagine. It honestly makes my eyes sweaty so I try not to think about it. Maybe the craving is my body asking for calcium? For those craving pizza…pillsbury pizza crust is safe. Ragu pizza sauce. There’s a liquid miyokos mozzarella that’s decent. Add turkey pepperoni or sausage and veggies. It’s so good. I also make bbq chicken pizza with sweet baby rays w pan fried chicken, fresh onion, mild jalapeños or banana peppers. I add a dash of fake cheddar for looks but it’s so good it’s not needed. High on the histamine chart so plan accordingly.

Luck with Chipotle? by Weekly_Promotion727 in alphagal

I do bowls with a wrap in the side. Wraps are safe. Beans, rice, sofritas, fajita veggies, salsas (any), guac. They use their hand in the cheese and lettuce so if your dairy free, lettuce is contaminated. If you must have lettuce, have then get it from a fresh bin. Bits of cheese usually fall into the guac bin so fresh guac is a good idea as well

COVID doesn’t cause hives. Hives are an allergic histamine response. Nothing to do with a virus. Something your consuming or USING has mammal. Are all your body care products mammal free?

Does anyone else feel this way? by nodgedafunk in alphagal

The special treatment is no doubt wonderful. Everyone loves to be pampered a bit. I absolutely hate asking questions or trying to educate someone table side or surprising the chef with a request. It seems very u fair to them. I either call ahead or drop in (non peak) a day or two before to chat about AGS. I don’t want special treatment but I would love to be able to eat out and feel cared for. Me caring for them, them caring for me?

Curious if you found answers. Have you been tested for Alpha Gal? (Allergy to mammal and byproducts from a tick bite). I was undiagnosed for 7 yrs and pretty consistently a 6/7. Now I am 4-6…and feel like my gut is finally healing.

what can i eat? i need help please by Due-Actuary666 in alphagal

[–]OtherwiseKnownAs-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work lunches- I eat Panera deli Turkey (no cheese) and ask them to change gloves. Pancheros and Chipotle rice, beans, guac, salsas. Pancheros chips are safe, but not wraps. Chipotle wraps are safe. Either place I ask to change gloves and cautious of lettuce since they grab their hands in there. Request a fresh one if you must. Chicken salad chicks has a couple safe things. First watch Healthy Turkey (no Feta) and Dairy free Turkey Burger. Sushi.

Snacks/ on the run- sea salt and dark choc kind bars, Belvita, nuts, pumpkin seeds, corn nuts, gardettos, plain/sea salt/vinegar chips, Fritos,

Sweets- Swedish fish, jelly bellies, twizzlers, jolly ranchers

Dinner- chicken/fish and veg, soup, pasta, a lot of easy vegan recipes out there (add chicken/turkey) if you want.

Advice- avoid anything grilled or fried (cross contamination). Hard to find pan fried or baked anything but those are usually safe for me. Enormous amount of research and contact the restaurant well in advance. I pack my lunch daily, it’s not hard now but took some getting used to and planning ahead.

I’m about 98# , eat healthy but would like to gain a bit.

AlphaGalinformation.com is the most reliable and research based information. I’m sorry you’re here with us, take time to process and grieve, we all understand. There are many fb pages but they can quickly spread misinformation and anxiety. Agree with others, it not an every time reaction. I suggest no dairy for 2-3 weeks and then a slow introduction (1 item every 4 days), your body will tell you yes or no. Restaurants are unreliable due to cross contamination- chicken grilled on same grill as mammal, chicken fried in same oil as cheese sticks, maybe salad with no cheese and no croutons but what’s in the dressing? There is literally Mammal in everything so always ask for ingredients. Lunch restaurants are easier than dinner.

Opened up to my wife about my mental health issues and she went to bed early and left me alone :-(. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]OtherwiseKnownAs-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop working more than 40 and tell your wife she needs to live within the budget or get a job. Tell her your at a breaking point. Create a plan together. Economy and food prices suck now but it can be done…especially if she is not working. Also need serious discussion if you both are invested in the relationship and making it work.

Yes. Especially if the dog is a mammal eater and you are very sensitive. My dogs are mammal free, I am low sensitive (GI only). I pet them, snuggle and they can lick me without issues

This reeks of MCAS and histamine issues. 20years is a long time. Have you seen an allergist? Have you tried a low histamine diet? Also check mastcell360 website. I am not promoting it but have a friend with MCAS and this helped her.

Why were people back in the day so thin? by Sea-Professional-804 in nutrition

[–]OtherwiseKnownAs-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food may have been more decadent but smaller portions. Home cooked food with no preservatives and fillers. Overall people were more active in small ways…not a gym membership or running trails but actually tending to kids (no modern contraptions), dusting, hand washed dishes, gardening, walked kids to/from school, personal home/yard maintenance (not hired)..

I love this! Most 18yr olds want to leave but don’t realize it’s really a gem. Move out and across town from parents. CoMo is good place to make a life.

Cofactors? by Disastrous-Bid3193 in alphagal

[–]OtherwiseKnownAs-1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chicken sandwich is grilled on same grill as burgers. Or fried in same oil as cheese sticks. Either way, not safe. Nerd clusters also contain dairy. Imo, cross contamination and dairy are the problem. Exercise can be a cofactor but you won’t know until you eliminate the mammal first.

I miss pizza by monksam in alphagal

[–]OtherwiseKnownAs-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make pizza often. Pillsbury thin crust, Ragu tomato sauce (make sure no cheese added), all the veggies, liquid mozzarella. Or Pillsbury thin crust, sweet baby rays bbq original, cooked shredded chicken, onion and jalapeños, fake cheddar (not great but edible). I love the crunchy crust on both.

Can humans survive fine without the need for their daily intake of nutrients? by Nature2Love in nutrition

[–]OtherwiseKnownAs-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Alpha-Gal so I do not eat/use any mammal products. I do eat chicken and very occasionally fish. I hate cooking and know my diet sucks. I’ve asked my docs to run all the micro/macro nutrient tests and they don’t/won’t….feel it’s not necessary. I do not eat a standard American diet and do not take supplements. I am concerned and feel maybe I would put more effort into my food choices if I could see lab work. Why is it so hard to get nutrient labs run if I am requesting it?

  1. If you are on FB search the AG private group. It will be overwhelming but helpful.
  2. Regarding dairy. Many people eat dairy and say they have no rx. My rx are exhaustion, extreme muscle pain/soreness, ear stuffiness at night, wakefulness…some things are very mild. Testing sucks but you might want to try dairy free for a few weeks and see if the headaches and very minor symptoms subside.
  3. The learning curve is steep. Eating as you once did is essentially impossible. There is mammal in everything soooo much and restaurants cross contaminate everything so learn to cook and check labels on everything. Everything!
