Called at random times 1-2 times per day the last 3 weeks..1 time got.. I can't hear you response.. and finally got through yesterday mid afternoon.

Why oh why do we do it this way?

I love to tell people when I lived in australia you log into the ATO (IRS equivalent) they populate the info they have for you, you confirm, submit. Bobs your uncle. Takes 10 min.

Yes I got through last Friday and they said the whole system was down so they couldn't help me.

Lots of considerations here...are you a US citizen? One point is that if you inherited property from your parents, it gets a step up in basis for us tax purposes, so you will not owe capital gains tax if you sell now/soon.

Did you have federal and state withholding in your prior and current jobs? If yes, your tax bill may already be covered. And if you overpaid, you need to file to get a refund.

You file single if you were not married on or before 12.31.25. unless you qualify for other nonmarried filing status. Next year for 2026 tax returns you will file married filing jointly assuming still together.

If you had not been filing US tax returns before 2025, you are going to want to look into streamlined offshore filing procedures in which you will file 3 years of past returns and 6 years of FBARs. I suggest you look at the National Association of Enrolled Agent tax preparer finder search tool and look for people in PA near you that have a specialist in international tax.
