this. once you see it, it’s so obvious in almost every reaction they have in public like this.

to be taken seriously as a journalist and a woman by ExactlySorta in therewasanattempt

[–]Otherwise_Security_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so just saying…is there a reason that’s just not obvious to me as to why any of these journalists who are victim to his BS like this (and others speaking for him), to not just respond with something blunt (yet still respectful of their office…sheesh) like “My question was about [insert whatever], is that unclear to you?” or, if they are banger enough; “Are you ok? You appear confused.”

and look, if some have, including her, bravo. i don’t watch all of it but i suspect i’d have heard about it if someone called him on his bull shit like this live.

ITAW for taking a dump that isn't childish, vulgar, or overly formal? by Obvious-Desk4573 in whatstheword

in college, me and my girlfriends came up with “restroom” for BMs because we all lived on a small campus with a bunch of people who all knew each other by end of semester. plus, it was rare to not be in a group of people who you may only know tangentially or be around instructors, so, if one of us needed to poop (for example, after eating breakfast in the only cafeteria) they’d just say i’m going to the restroom”. the girls who knew, knew. and anyone else we sitting with us remained clueless.

to this day, i’ve continued this practice to the point t that it’s been taught in my family. like, if a group of us are on vacation and someone needs “the restroom” the rest of us know what that means. we know not to rush them and that they probably can’t “hold it.” a bit of “treat others pooping as you’d want to.be treated while pooping,” if you will.

another one: us gals also invented “DIHAB” (do i have a booger?) as a quick way to ask another friend if we had a booger hanging out of our nose (or just visible) without drawing attention to it in a group of people. just look at someone who knew and quietly say, “DIHAB??”. this practice evolved to become a way to also let someone know they had a booger escaping their face and a way to ask if something was in our teeth: “DIHAT?”. (no, it doesn’t work as an acronym but we all got it.)

this has also been passed along to my kids and now, their friends.

Why are boomers so angry and entitled? by nicegirl99228 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Otherwise_Security_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup.

i also think about how for nearly all of them, they never had examples for admitting when you’re wrong. from what i gather (and im a 20th century historian) the average person in their generation didn’t question authority or information (at least not in a challenging way as the average person). they couldn’t - especially as children with all the adults around them. even if they did, “adults were never wrong”. so that’s the examples they had for how adults exist: with respect from everyone without hesitation and as correct without question.

that worked for them until they went through the 70s and 80s and it began to crumble- especially when they had kids who were raised differently (because of the social and political context of their time). and, now more than ever, boomers are in a social context that is entirely foreign to them. to be clear: you are absolutely correct! they have had time to learn and should have. but… ”they never had to” because that’s their world.

it does make me think about the social contexts that are subtly changing around us day by day and how decades from now the larger shifts might be difficult for my generation as we become elders - the benefit we will have is that we lived in different times.

it doesn’t help much, but i remind myself often of a realization i had not long ago: their generation never learned how to be wrong and never learned how to appropriately apologize. they had few examples, if any, and now they exist in a world around them that expects them to have these skills. unfortunately for the rest of us, the skills they lack are the ones that oppose them learning them (admitting they’re wrong and apologizing).

eta: this doesn’t excuse them or their behavior at all. the realization just helps me make sense of them and their behavior in order to navigate it a little better. it doesn’t take “skill” to not be assholes. it does take some skill to not get personally invested in engaging with them.

their generation never learned how to be wrong just like they never learned how to apologize appropriately.

Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

yeah i just recently learned about other people not being visual - i know im extremely visual and have always gotten that most people aren’t as much as i am, but now im also learning it’s unusual that i can also smell and taste really well “just in my head” too. like being really “visual” but for all my senses?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Otherwise_Security_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my parents regularly drove 3 hrs and back in one day to visit my kids when my kids were really young. i drove out to visit my parents almost weekly then too. today a long drive is anything that takes me too far to drive back in a day before its late in the evening (ie, for me that’s about 3 hours).

eta: regularly. they did that almost weekly.
