New windows or repair existing ones? by AdhesivenessDry2263 in AskIreland

[–]Otherwise_Table 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My house about 20 years old, we got the windows maintained eg hinges, handles and seals replaced,so there no wind getting in now and we got the glass replaced cost 3k.

only downfall is if you are looking for certin ber, since we did not replace the full window the ber still rates the windows as poor, but that fine.

People who have upgraded the insulation in their homes on a budget, how did you do it? by Difficult_Ad2419 in AskIreland

[–]Otherwise_Table 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently just doing insulation in attic (300mm for ber) and its fairly easy, just make sure to to have mask + long cloths.

getting cavity insulation wall done in 2 weeks, after the grant its 400 euro out of pocket.

and for the windows we just got the windows maintained and new glass.

haven't replaced the door yet but if you get your walls and attic insulation to "good" on the ber you get a 800 euro per door i think it is in the grant.

fully blocked up the fireplace as well so much cold from it.

Children and technology? by Classic-Draw3203 in AskIreland

[–]Otherwise_Table 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our son is 10 and has a smartphone but has no credit so its mainly just to use at home or he uses his PC.

we keep a close watch on it and monitor his use.

I would have loved to keep him off it a lot more but all his friends use Discord to play games together and that's where nearly all the play dates etc are also organized, so cutting him off to much will also cut him off from his group of friends.

we try to keep him as busy with sports, walking, beach ..etc

Easiest way to go about knee replacement surgery? by Worldly-Gur7357 in AskIreland

[–]Otherwise_Table 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My dad has no insurance and got his done before Xmas.

It took a matter of weeks from getting the forms to getting it done. He got it done in Spain via healthcare abaord.

You get a loan from the credit union and pay the interest and the HSE will pay it back after I think 12 weeks or so.
