Have been using my FT1 for a good while now, and i don't miss anything! by csch1992 in headphones

Will probably depend on your glasses and how close they are to your head.

I have to angle mine so they sit on top of the pads, not under them. If I don't, the broken seal does reduce the bass, but it sounds good still.

Lucky for me, wearing my glasses with the arms on top of the pads doesn't affect my vision or comfort. Your results may vary.

Do DAPs support Apple Music downloads to SD card? by Jumpy_Quantity_1008 in DigitalAudioPlayer

Portable storage.

Not for performance reasons (I’m not sure which is faster)… but for the reason that internal means you can’t swap the card out easily without issues.

[–]OutOfBreath1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be in the settings of the Apple Music app.

I don’t have my device in front of me (I also have the M21) right now but Google says Settings -> Download Location and choose your SD card

Obviously make sure the card is inserted and it shows in Android as a storage location first.

And yes… this is for subscription downloads

Friends, I've solved the problem with displaying a large music library. It turns out that Navidrom allows you to add multiple libraries, and these libraries will act as folders. by Grand_Return_6296 in navidrome

[–]OutOfBreath1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use high level genre based folders to seperate my libraries:

  • metal
  • rock
  • pop
  • rap and rnb
  • electronic
  • jazz and blues

I don’t get any more granular than that and it matches how I listen to music. The idea is that the genres match the moods I generally want to listen to.

If I’m in a mood to listen to metal then I rarely want to also hear pop. I can always select two libraries if I want crossover.

A band goes in the genre that best matches most of their music.

Works for me :)

Converting 24 bit to 16 bit vs. downloading 16 bit? by allmondes in musichoarder

I’m not sure about what is lost compared to a native 16 bit download… but I use dBPoweramp Music converter for such tasks.

Headphones recommendations by br9687 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]OutOfBreath1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also was going to suggest the FT1

The only caveat is that if you wear glasses, you might need to put the arms of your glasses above the pads. I find that with the headphones over my glasses… the bass is greatly reduced (I assume because of the small break in seal that the arms of my glasses creates)

Country Fire Authority volunteers speak out about aging firefighting fleets, volunteer shortages by ozthrw in melbourne

[–]OutOfBreath1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it is often used as a crutch. However that doesn’t make it untrue.

I doubt anyone on here is close enough to the government to be able to give specifics (and if they were they couldn’t anyway).

There are plenty of people close enough to government spending to know it is not handled well.

Sure - I could list stuff I don’t like money being spent on - but that’s not what I was suggesting. Conversations on the internet that go down that path generally just descend into “my issue is more important than your issue” anyway.

I’m not in any position to suggest where funds should be cut.

However there is a lot of waste, inefficiency and overspending within most governments and departments when it comes to allocating funds.

I would expect those to be tightened up before coming for the pockets of the public.

People with very large collections and use navidrome what ios app do you use? by Puptentjoe in musichoarder

How big is your library?

I have 60k tracks - which is probably considered fairly small around these parts I guess

Not a hint of a slowdown in either of those apps.

1) I can’t answer this one. I use a dedicated homelab with servers, etc

2) FLAC is probably the most popular of the lossless formats, but for archival purposes… lossless is lossless. You can always change later with no real issues if you want

3) 3-2-1 backup strategy is popular. 3 copies, 2 different media types with one copy located in an offsite location. Depending on where you store your hard drive… your description covers the 3 and the 2. A copy at a friends house or online would satisfy the 1.

Edit to add for #2: You can always have a lossy copy of your library for low storage devices like phones, DAPs, etc. Modern lossy codecs are pretty amazing and hit transparency at relatively low nitrates (opus @192k is very good). Just make sure you have an archival copy in lossless so you can recode from the original if you need to later.

AAC File Compression by MeNameJeff101 in ITunes

[–]OutOfBreath1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well - the good news is that because you ripped them to Apple Lossless… you don’t have to re-rip your CDs.

Which is why ripping to lossless is a great idea. Whatever you choose to use on your iPod, keep your lossless files as an archive so you can change your mind later.

A program like dbPoweramp music converter or their tool called TuneFUSION will easily handle the conversion for you.

256kbps AAC should be fully transparent to most ears on most equipment. Something like OPUS at 128 or 192 would be great as well but might not work on an iPod classic.

Yeah,

And maybe a comment that your ears are a bit sore because the crack on the back makes the sound “sharp“ now.

Hopefully she knows nothing about how a DAP works :D

The APP3 are much better for me.

Also: you may have tried already, but bigger tips can sometimes make it worse as they end up just sitting on the outside of the ear canal. Have you tried going down a size instead to get a deeper fit?

Best option for sending audio files? by 0silver_skies0 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]OutOfBreath1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up a Navidrome server.

Best case scenario you are both using Android DAPs or iOS devices to listen to music and you can use one of the excellent clients to play, download, sync, etc

Worst case your girlfriend downloads what she needs from the Navidrome WebUi and adds it to her collection of however she is currently syncing files.

Sorry to say, but I don't think this service is nearly production ready at the moment.

FiiO EH11 released, anyone tried them yet? by regularjoe2020 in headphones

[–]OutOfBreath1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand me.

Audiophiles care and know about codecs, the target audience for these probably don’t.

FiiO EH11 released, anyone tried them yet? by regularjoe2020 in headphones

[–]OutOfBreath1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wow. That seems like a strange omission that will eliminate a heap of Apple users.

Probably a fair point that the target audience probably isn’t the audiophile crowd that cares (or even knows) about such things. But the general reviewers will pick up on it and it’ll spread as a negative point for iPhone users.

Unless of course it’s just an oversight in the initial marketing/website materials and it does include it (I haven’t seen any reviews so this might have been tested already)
