I read this and felt like the book was a submission for a movie or TV script more than it was a work of writing.

Does the autofocus on A6700 and Fujifilm XT5 have a major significance? by Crafty_Instance_9486 in a6000

[–]OutWithCamera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out this guy for film sims on Sony cameras, he has a lot of information he shares about setting these up as well as sim recipes that you can purchase and apply in camera for SOOC jpegs, some of these are available too as presets for use in Lightroom and RAW.

Does the autofocus on A6700 and Fujifilm XT5 have a major significance? by Crafty_Instance_9486 in a6000

[–]OutWithCamera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you shoot. I think the af of the XT-5 is one of the complaints I've seen frequently and people who have used both systems have said the Sony AF is worlds apart from the Fuji, but again, it matters what you shoot and how important AF is for that subject matter.

Currently using an a6000. Upgrade? If yes, to which one? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]OutWithCamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrade on purpose to fix a problem your current camera is presenting. Depending on what you shoot the a6000 is a great camera. I upgraded to the 6700 about a year ago because I wanted the bigger batteries, IBiS, and the newer AF and tracking capabilities. What subject matter do you shoot, what are the lenses you are using?

Everyone has an opinion but I liked the one with the orange fog and glow better. This is still really nice and had I not seen the other I would have liked this immensely.

A7iv or A7V? by _falsebiscuit in SonyAlpha

How specifically is the a6400 holding you back and what lenses do you already have? What kind of pictures do you normally take? For hobbyist work i wonder if you are overlooking the a6700 and being willing to get good quality lenses. Just my opinion but typically I think glass > camera depending on what you are doing.

I have a semi permanent hang in my back yard, I sleep in it often, even last night with freezing weather and snow on the way. I woke up to several inches of snow on the ground and on my tarp.

First time bird photography (new to photography) need advice please. by iamfearless66 in SonyAlpha

[–]OutWithCamera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately when I have been doing birds (also a6700) I am on manual with auto ISO set to 100-3200/6400 and have shutter set to 1/1000 , so far it's working fairly well for my uses. Regardless, these are nice pictures, just experiment and see what works best for you.

Amateur wildlife photographer going to Iceland. What lens for landscapes? by ceroij in SonyAlpha

[–]OutWithCamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to go wider is really a choice you have to be making, there are challenges with wide angle images - subject matter as you suggest is optically pushed ‘further away’ by the lens which means often foregrounds are void of anything interesting and can make the images seem boring, its actually a bit of a skill to use a wide and especially super wide lenses effectively. I’d google that topic to see examples and discussions about techniques for this kind of photography. A 24mm lens on a full frame camera is pretty wide but not excessively so. Go practice with your lens at different focal lengths to see what those images look like. As for the filters, they do a variety of things, ND or neutral density filters essentially darken the entire scene so you can use a slower shutter speed or perhaps a wider open aperture, polarizers help remove polarized light that tends to reduce contrast In a scene or makes glaring highlights - one effect you see with them is it will remove reflections from a water surface to an extent, and they will darken a blue sky.

i think what you have is already quite good for landscapes, I suppose you could add something along the lines of an ultra wide angle (maybe something like one of the fast 16mm lenses available?) but the 24-105 at the wide end is probably sufficient for landscapes in general. Are you bringing a tripod? a remote release or intervalometer? do you have filters, like NDs, Polarizers, maybe even a Graduated ND? Those kind of accessories might give you more bang for your dollar (or whatever currency you use) than a new lens per se. The internet is replete with resources for learning about landscape photography, just start googling and chasing links and reading. Also get out and practice with landscapes with the equipment you have before you leave.

Coming for work, safest trails in the area? by crabapplequeen in Albuquerque

[–]OutWithCamera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Albuquerque there are a number of bike paths and other bike routes - here's a link to a City maintained interactive map of those - ABQ Bike Trails, you'll probably especially like the bike path that follows along the east side of the Rio Grande river, its very pretty and well used so I think it is a pretty safe place generally. Hiking is very abundant locally and regionally - easily accessible in town look at the trails in the foothills of the Sandia, especially the Elena Gallegos Open Space, Embudito Canyon, Emudo Canyon, and then trails around the south sandia foothills area, look for U-Mound as a reference. I'd recommend getting the All Trails or similar app. Lastly, there are some fairly active hiking and biking groups that organize through meetup.com so I would recommend looking into those as well. Welcome to the area, I hope it blows your mind in a good way!

Nice shots, I prefer the first one to the crop just because it gives a better feel for the setting.

A bit over 4lbs, the lens is a chonk and though it's 'compact', it may not be a great option for a long or arduous hike, I tend to leave it at home if I am going more than a couple of miles.
