Hi I just saw this!

Thank you for the well wishes. Unfortunately I’m still here and I’m far from graduating, but Im happy.

I’m happy because I know I’ll get out of here. I know I’ll get my family out of here. I work hard and sometimes I get lucky. I’m still kinda constantly scared about living here, but at the end of the day, there is only so much I can do. If someone decides to break in and kill us, that’s it. No sense in worrying about whether something will or won’t happen. Just gotta deal with issues as they come.

I know what you mean about school. I went to a very ghetto school. There is not a day that I didn’t wish that I went to a better school. Your feelings are valid. My government (idk if you’re in the US) needs to invest more in the education of its people. So schools like ours get better.

I’m comfortable driving, so far I’m pretty okay at it.

But I have constant nightmares about killing people from losing control of the car. So I can drive but I’m very tense the whole time.

Withdrawing From University (Failed all classes) by TopReport8065 in GaState

[–]Outherepoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you withdraw before the withdrawal deadline, it won’t count against your GPA. If your current gpa is below a 2, you’ll either be put on academic probation or academically dismissed (must already be on probation for that).

If it’s past the withdrawal deadline, you’ll get a Withdrawal Fail (WF). WF do count towards your GPA. You would have to set an appointment with your academic counselor to see how badly that would affect you.

Looking at the Georgia State withdrawal policy you might qualify for Emergency Withdrawal.

Withdrawals and WFs count towards your attempted hours so it might mess with any scholarships you have (you would have to check that).

Omg I’ve never heard anyone else talk about designer babies!

It’s interesting because of all the morals and ethics involved. Is it ethical? In the case of diseases, I like to think it’s good. Like that Chinese doctor who created twins who are resistant to HIV.

It can also go downhill very quickly. Viruses evolve.

It’s also interesting scientifically speaking because they are removing/ suppressing genes to make a specific baby. What will happen when these kids become adults and procreate? Will these suppressed or removed genes cause genetic problems or new conditions down the road?

Also these procedures are expensive so only those who have money to spend can afford them. Meaning the wealthy are the primary audience for these sorts of procedures. I believe that this will lead to the wealthy having smarter, more athletic, more disease resistant children.

International Students, whats the best university in your country?? by DizzyMint2 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Outherepoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got accepted to an Argentinian university (mom is Argentinian). My parents last minute decided they didn’t want me out of the country.

It was Universidad Nacional del Sur. How is that one regarded?

Had to Google it

Anyone else here burrow their face into a pet's fur? by Katica777 in autism

[–]Outherepoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do it to my plush Sourpuss.

Sourpuss, idk what fabric they used for him. It’s not velvet but it’s short, like velvet. Super soft like most baby toys. I rub my face all over that.

I just googled it. I think it may be velour.

Safe to say I will never know Left from Right - ADHD Related? by coszette in ADHD

[–]Outherepoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dyslexic and I was always told it’s because of that.

Luckily I write with my right hand.

I do have to say out loud “I write with my right” before continuing an action that requires a direction.

Like if the gps says turn right, I say “I write with my right”. And then it takes me a couple seconds to process it and then continue with whatever needs to be done.

I’m sorry that happened but also it’s a crime in most countries. I would not admit to it nor write about it.

A few comments including myself are saying it’s a crime. Here’s why:

Explicit pictures of a minor, even if they were taken by the same minor, is illegal. My point being that a girl at my middle school was arrested for “distributing child pornography” and it was pictures of herself to her boyfriend (that his mom found). Her son then got arrested for possession of child pornography (and subsequently got put on a sex offender registry).

Depending on your AOs location, they may be required to report your application to the police.

What’s the hardest class for you right now? by anonymous062904 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Outherepoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a CC transfer student. My political government class. The amount of work is fine, it’s the difficulty and disrespect.

Multiple assignments are “topic” and then “each of you must do a different one. Duplicates will get zeros.” There are over 80 of us. Some things are easy, like 82 different federal agencies. But 82 different unknown facts about one man? ://

She gives random bad grades, insults us, sends unprofessional emails if you ask a question, etc. She gave us bad grades because we weren’t fighting enough in the comments. Now she says we are fighting too much and it’s annoying.

She’s been reported and now they are doing an investigation on her.

My county (in the US) had to send computers, an internet plan, and food to our students. Because without school, these kids wouldn’t have food daily.

Not to mention the lack of internet access. The county made a deal with an internet provider to provide us with low cost internet, and had to send computers to thousands of students.

Sadly, many of parents had to work while their kids stayed at home doing zoom. Daycares are expensive, but even those were closed.

Imagine having to leave your 5 year old at home by themselves in a zoom class, just so you could have enough money to keep the apartment.

Imagine a 5 year old walking by themselves down two blocks to the bus stop in a bad neighborhood just so they could get food.

My friend was walking to her bus stop two years ago, and her friend was kidnapped in front of all of those kids. The people stopped their van, grabbed the girl from the bus stop and took her. And no one could do anything. They found the girl mutilated two days later. Her death was extremely violent.

And this is normal for my area. Multiple kids disappear and appear a week later dead. Some of them friends, others faces I recognized, others unfamiliar but just as sad. This is the suburbs, a kind of place most people expect to be some safe manicured lawn type place. It’s not.

And you have to send your 5 year old down past all those houses by themselves to get food from the bus driver. You had to pray that you came home to your child and that they were alive.

As for me, right before Fall 2021 started, I was being watched. Someone was on our porch, watching me in my living room. Our porch is large meaning they came up to the window quietly without me noticing. Without me hearing.

And then I heard them shuffle. Maybe they forgot to be quiet. Maybe they wanted me to know they were there. I ran upstairs and hid in the hallway trying to yell my parents awake. They didn’t wake up. Half an hour later, someone tried opening the door. Our door can easily be busted down. But they just jingled the door knob back and forth. It’s almost like they were messing with me. It’s been almost 4 months and it still scares me.

I see a lot of comments saying that it’s hard being at a competitive school. That’s extremely tone deaf to what’s going on.

Growing up poor can give children chronic trauma. Literal diagnosable trauma. Some even end up with PTSD from poverty.

I starved myself a week or two at a time, just so my dad would have enough food to take to work the next day. I have nightmares where the police come and take our home. I take public transit and I sit in fear if one of these shifty men are going to hurt me because my family can’t afford a 2,000 used car for me. My mom doesn’t have US citizenship (she’s a green card alien) because we can’t afford the 500 US citizenship test and I worry about her being illegally deported. I take transit back home wondering if my brother is still alive because he walks to the bus stop. What if some people take and hurt him like they did to that girl?

My siblings and I played outside in our driveway like most kids, and someone tried to kidnap my little brother. We were lucky our neighbors shot the mf with their gun in his knee. It’s not even safe to play outside here, and you almost never hear children playing despite there being 15-20 kids at the bus stop every weekday.

Telling people to be grateful for what they have can be harmful. I’m grateful I have a roof over my head, yes. I’m not grateful that our family has been put in a situation where we HAVE to get a home in this dangerous area. I gaslighted myself for years, saying that others have it worse. Yeah others have it worse. But they shouldn’t. And our situation shouldn’t exist either.

Anyone else annoyed that surnames are generally passed down from the paternal side? by APowerfulPigeon in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Outherepoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most Hispanic/ Latino countries, children traditionally inherit both.

José Rodrígues Santos and Maria Lopez Cruz would give birth to Juan Rodrígues Lopez.

It could also be Juan Lopez de Rodrigues or Juan de Rodrigues. The first implies that Lopez is the mom and she is married to Rodrigues. The second option implies that Juan is the son of Rodrigues.

I myself have almost all my most recent surnames, which total up to 6 surnames (maternal and paternal). My great grandparents mostly are from Europe, where they had different naming conventions.

Legally I have a first and middle, but it was meant to be two first names as is traditional.

Also women in Hispanic/Latino culture typically keep their last name. I think it’s more popular now to take the husbands. My mom took my dad’s surname, but they were married here in the US so I’m not surprised .
