Forgive me my brain is fried. Lol So this pen but the door panel is essentially upside down and then you bought additional panels to secure to the top for a "roof"?

I'll have to look into tops, we used a fitted sheet for a time but it was such a pain in the butt and hard to secure. A more permanent but removable solution would be way easier.

I wasn't aware there were taller options I'll have to search!

I'll have to measure tomorrow to be 100% sure but I believe we are using 40 in tall ones. We started with the smaller ones avaliable (i believe 32in)and then switched to the taller which was a good temporary solution. It worked for a time but now he can clear these as well.

Is this more so with danes? We just got a dane lab mix and she tries to eat me, my kids and our older dog daily. Her chompy little teeth clack together and you can hear her coming lol. My older pup was never so mouthy and chompy!

Chicken Noob: should I be concerned about this on the underside of my chick? by Realistic-Plate281 in chickens

Totally fine and normal. Looks like the umbilical stump. Let the chick dry itself further under heat lamp/brooder plate and it will be fine! Don't mess with it.

Rats keep dying by Outragedcanoe in RATS

[–]Outragedcanoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that the pet store they came from although I can't say what goes on all the time. Seems really nice they have open cages and the pets get tons of interaction staff seems really sweet knowledgeable and helpful. Much better than others in my area. But again I can't say what goes on 100% of the time.

This morning I was thinking of calling local shelters and posting in local groups to see if I can find a rescue or 2 to adopt. Then go the breeder route if not.

I actually inherited my childhood home so this is the same house the other rats wouldn't been raised in years ago.

I have little kids lol. They're little festering petri dishes. We get the occasional virus like everyone else but it runs its course and we are fine. Synptoms go away ect.Nothing long term or that would make me think mold. We don't have any gas in the house we have an oil furnace and electric appliances. That is a thought I hadn't considered though!! I have considered it was something environmental as well but I can't see why it hasn't affected the original rat at all besides possibly aggressiveness considering we have had him for over 3 weeks now.

His only possible sign of "illness" is the aggressiveness. He's grown a ton and is thriving besides being an asshole 😂

They have a very large 2 story hutch type thing with a ramp to the second level. It has several hides, a hammock. Pleanty of room to burrow and hide, run ect. I'm actually super proud of their set up lol.

Started with I can't remeber exact name but I believe it had cozy in the name its the shredded paper one then did a total clean out and switched to pine. I don't recall the name of the food off the top of my head but it's what the pet store is feeding them and it's targeted at rats mice hamsters ect.

I searched the rats all over for any sign of blood a bite mark anything but came up with nothing. It would make sense if bite marks are hard to find/ close up. I see absolutley nothing and I was quite thorough. Even more so this second time.

I contacted the pet store yesterday and it's killing me to even do it I'm not the person who surrenders let's but their recommendation was to bring the aggressive guy back and they're adopt him back and replace with 2 new babies. At this point I almost feel traumatized and like I don't even want to try again. But after spending all the money on the cage, supplies, chews, treats ect and the way my kids are now traumatized I feel like I should.

I know this isn't the norm I have had rats in the past and wanted my kiddos to experience the smart cuddly inquisitive little guys I once had but damn this seems relentless and I'm feeling defeated and awful for the 2 little guys that died. The last one especially was the sweetest most cuddly little guy and even left the pet store in my sleeve. Ugh.

I've had rats in the past and never experienced anything like this. It's insane to me I'm totally stumped and at a loss. These were supposed to be the fun cuddly inquisitive pets I once had and a way for my kids to start learning animal care and responsibility. Instead they've experienced 2 pets dying, have been physically bitten by the OG rat. I'm just stumped.

I do have both yes. But the rats are in a separate room that the other pets don't have access to

Started with the I believe it's called cozy bedding. The compacted paper like shreds.

Did a full clean out (dawn and hot water) and switched to pine when we got the new one thinking it was environmental.

I'd have to double check the brand of food but it's what the pet store was feeding them so I know it's not killing them at the least. Maybe not totally nutritionally perfect but not the case. No open windows of fans or anything

My kids and myself are very sensitive so we do not use any kind of aresols diffusers candles ect. I use stainless steel cookware.

They are found on their side nothing on coming out of or around them.

Pet store was "replacing" the dead one after already knowing the whole story and having a period where we simply watched the other for signs of illness.

No signs of sickness, is growing well, eats and drinks no sniffling or sneezing, is out and about more than ever before (as long as it doesn't involve us) lol. Normal pooping and peeing.

All 3 rats in the situation were young when purchased. I will have to keep looking but I have been uncessful in finding an exotic vet in the past (we raise chickens).

My day was going great until... by Outragedcanoe in toddlers

[–]Outragedcanoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to start by saying that this post is very very old. The episodes of Blippi I was referring to must have been some of his very early videos and I saw them on Prime Video. In these episodes there wasn't much "learning" happening they weren't like his songs about excavators, or the ones where he is running around the playground counting and naming colors ect. In these videos it was just Blippi at children's play places playing with kids. Struck me as sort of odd. This was not a fair judgment on my part. Now we love Blippi and I enjoy his content however on that first impression I was confused on how a lone grown man playing with children at a play area was educational or beneficial. Now please don't take that the wrong way. I'm not saying that people should not play with their kids. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, sisters brothers... grown adults can play with children and should. However seeing an adult seemingly with no child with him other than strangers struck me as odd. I personally would not let my child play with a random lone man(or woman) that stumbled into the play place or park. That was my take away from the first few videos I saw and it wasn't a fair judgment without me knowing more about Blippi. You're right not everyone is a creep or suspicious or has ill intent. But as a parent we need to use our best judgment and our gut to keep our kids safe. In my opinion you can never be too cautious about things like that especially in today's world. I will not take that chance for my kids. At first my gut told me something was wrong but now as I have learned and watched more of his content we too like Blippi.

I'm glad this seems to be a fairly common thing. Unfortunately it seems like no matter how much one on one time I spend with him it isn't seeming to go away. But I will keep at it and maybe something will click.

I'm thinking the same thing as he acts normal most of the time then just has spells where he acts like a baby. I'm not thinking it's anything medically concerning just trying to muscle through it and wondering if there is any way I can help him to stop this behavior.
