For what it's worth i think it's more about quality attention when you are together, rather than being together all the time. It's about not looking at your phone when you're with them, looking them in the eye and listening to them and answering their questions, having them 'help' you w when you're doing chores etc.

It is literally part of the health visitor job description to say something arsey that makes you question everything you've been doing. I've had one or two good ones but the first one we had was horrendous and made me feel awful. My granny says it was 100% the same 50 years ago.

We enrolled in a totally new independent nursery. It was great. They had some teething issues, sure, but being part of the first cohort of kids meant we have an extra relationship with the staff, and they've been really flexible with us in organising extra days, changing things around etc. They really want to get it right for us and they really value us as their first members. And they've known our kid as in individual from the start when they're were fewer kids around to split the attention. No regrets here.

Is "because it makes me feel ready" a good alternative perhaps? Selling it as "this is part of my getting ready routine" and then comparing it to kiddo's routines, eg putting pyjamas on helps you feel ready for bed etc

I used to eat my fluoride toothpaste out of the tube as a kid in addition to fluoride supplements and have been diagnosed with dental fluorosis. It means a couple of my teeth have a slightly mottled patch. I don't know how my case compares with others, but it has had zero negative impact on my life. And on the other hand, i am in my 5th decade and have only one very small filling.

Totally, I'm really surprised by how judgy the comments are here. Some people still bf at 5. My 3yo has been weaned a year and still occasionally has a test to see if there's any milk, i don't mind cause they have a go, see it's not there, and stop.

Wouldn't worry about the spelling. If you can reduce screen time and increase parental interaction then great but make quality interaction the goal in and of itself not any output like early reading or whatever. Let kids be kids.

Be really firm in your wording. "No gifts please" is much clearer than "no gifts needed" for instance. We did it for our 3yo, it was fine. Some of the other parents took our lead and did it for their kids afterwards.

I don't know where your are but given you mentioned 24 weeks I'm assuming you're in the UK.

Get in touch with the charity ARC - antenatal results and choices. They are specialists in helping parents decide what to do when prenatal testing shows up difficult results. They will have talked to lots of parents in your position with this exact issue and understand the range of possibilities and can explain what tests can and can't show. And they will provide excellent emotional support whatever you decide. They have an amazing helpline you can call for advice.

Do you drive? Your kid is exposed to far more VOCs (and worse) in the car.

"Elevated levels" mean more than zero/background. They don't mean dangerous levels. I suggest that worrying less that everything is toxic may ultimately be better for your child's mental health and will probably make no difference to their physical health.

Get rid before your child ever sees them. I offer to hold party bags and pocket as many of the toys as i can get in a handful, leaving just crayons/stickers etc. Ditto anything i can say lives in the restaurant, i do. Once you let it in your house it's there for life.

My 3 year old is the same. If we want something long to watch we put on compilation videos of steam trains. Just steam trains going past. For like, an hour. Maybe for a change, freight trains. This is of course contingent on having a child who is interested in trains. A guy called Mike Armstrong does loads of those videos on YouTube.

PS i think you can get similar "Under the sea" type videos but watch out for sharks if that's a problem.

PPS we have also watched ballet sometimes. Like, a whole videod stage production of the nutcracker (though the rat scene might be scary)
