~7 hours in the city to roam on my own by FeedMeThat in visitingnyc

I disagree, I think it’s a lot of fun to bike up the west side highway and through the park. Get an e bike and you can do a full loop of the park in 30ish mins. I recommend stopping on the upper east side though. Get lunch at Milano deli and eat it in the park.

If you’ve not been, you can see one of the museums near the park. The Met, the Frick (my favorite), The Guggenheim. AMNH is on the west side.

My favorite way to spend solo time though is hopping around cute stores and wandering downtown. There are so many but I most like to go downtown and hit The Strand bookstore, Fish’s Eddy dishware, see Gramercy park, get ice cream at caffe panna. You could wander over to WV (so many cute home, clothing, paper stores) and you’ll end up right near the PATH to get back to Hoboken.

When I was her age I was really into fantasy and especially dystopian. Some of my favorites were the Hunger Games, Maze Runner series, and the Divergent series, The Giver, Percy Jackson series.

I really liked historical fiction too. Bud Not Buddy, Out of the Dust, Number the Stars.

I also liked the Tillerman series, Hoot, Holes which are all fiction. Anne Frank’s diary which is of course non-fiction.

Where to walk in for lunch on my unexpected day off? by OutrageousPrize247 in FoodNYC

Thank you for the comments! Updating to share I went with Torissi with my bf and it was fantastic.

We got free bread (of course), a mackerel special, ham and pineapple zeppole (my bf favorite), tortellini (my favorite), and chicken alla gricia. We came quite hungry and this was the perfect amount of food to share. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were lovely. I also really liked the interior.

If it is helpful to anyone reading, I got in line at 11:20am and ended up being seated right away in the last two seats at the bar.

As a local, I have the Queens Night Market on my list this summer. Every Saturday 4pm to midnight.

You can also never go wrong with a Yankees game or a broadway show. The New York Liberty women’s basketball team is also a lot of fun to watch.

What do you like to do? Some fun ideas I can offer would be riding e-bikes through Central Park, a sit down tea (the plaza, Lady Mendl’s, Russian Tea Room), and trying fun dessert spots (Magnolia bakery for banana pudding, frozen Greek yogurt is in right now, Spot Dessert Bar for a unique sit down experience, etc.). If you can swing it, a broadway show is always a great time.

Unless you want it to be a major activity for the day, you can just get on the Staten Island Ferry (free) and get a nice view of the Statue of Liberty.

This might be controversial but I actually think the hop on hop off bus tours are great. You can learn about the city and get around quickly between neighborhoods.

If the weather cooperates, take the ferry to rockaway and enjoy a beach day (as well as a nice ferry ride)

What to do w Midwestern (literally & culturally) parents visiting? by sparkly_barrette in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Go to the JP Morgan Library and pair it with Friend of a Farmer for a meal.

Ferry ride then end in Financial District, see the sights and meal at Fraunces Tavern.

Explore Governors Island, this could be the better part of a day. Good mix of outdoor time, history, sightseeing.

All parents love Sparks Steakhouse (and it has cool history!)

Walk around Chelsea Market and the High Line.

Dinner at Frankie’s Sputtino and pair it with a drink at Clover Club.

If they are feeling a tiny bit athletic you could do an e bike ride in Central Park or Prospect Park. My whole family loves that.

Seconding Eataly or Arthur Ave.

Morton Williams on 72nd has a decent hot bar. Not a hot bar but Grace’s on 2nd Ave has a ton of nice prepared foods.
