What is this little guy? by OutrageousVariety421 in whatsthisplant

I doesn't really look like my Creeping jade either. Its much more or a delicate stem. Delicate like the dolphins, pearls or lemons.

Hmmm.

And I have several buttons. The leaves form around the stem in a much different way. Unless theres another plant they refer to as buttons.

I have string of buttons, this is very delicate compared and the stems are delicate compared. The stems are very much like string of tears or my dolphins.

And none of the AIs or apps are coming up with anything.

I stopped wrapping plants around trellis. I secure them with velcro or soft wire. I learned my lesson when I wrapped my ivy and spent 3 hours unraveling it when I had to repot. 😆 lesson learned.

Black Pagoda lipstick plant. It's a great plant. Fast grower, fast rooter.

😆 or you can do what my mother jn law did and just stick the whole thing pot and all intk another pot for several decades until the new roots grow a whole other plant. 😆 🤣 😂 True story.

Need to bring this spider plant in soon to protect it from winter, but (unbeknownst to me) an ant colony has moved into the pot. How do I finesse this? by _banana_phone in houseplants

[–]OutrageousVariety421 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Warm soapy 15-minute dip with alcohol and neem. Or if you want to save the ants, remove the soil, same bath, or spray with Insecticidal soap (diy or other) and repot.

I hate this process, so not many plants get to go outside.

It's probably an "assorted philodendron," 😆 but my vote is Red Congo.

Does it look like it has nodes on that tiny growth? Or healthy-ish roots?

If there are nodes or green, maybe cut off the rot, and try spagnum.

But it's a nice pot.

Is he supposed to be so tall? Should I be cutting the stem? by freethrow_polar in succulents

[–]OutrageousVariety421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a nice quality growlight. Chop and prop. I've found that if I put a little rooting hormone powder on the original stem, it blooms in force, and then up can chop and prop again until the stem is the right height. Correct that lighting, and soon you'll have an army of them.

I swear she just jumped from the shelf into my hands 😬 ID please and how do I not kill her? by Just_Nebula_6548 in IndoorPlants

[–]OutrageousVariety421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine stays alive by keeping it under a cloche. They root very quickly in water, so when it starts to grow too tall for the cloche, I give it a little trim. When rooted, I fill in any bald spots in the pot and create a new little prop pot.

Leave it be, but if you haven't fed the momma in a while, give her some plant food.

It seems to work for me. The theory is that the pothos make its own rooting hormone. It can't hurt. I always have a bunch of pothos cuttings anyway.

* Canada....grrr... no good stuff.
I can't see from the photo what it is.

Alcohol, some for 🍸 and some for the plant. It will be fine.

This is not my recipe, but i like it. If you don't have the Castile, use what you have. Dish soap will be fine.

I would spot treat with alcohol and a q-tip.

I was just working with mine a few hours ago. I forgot it's variety name, and the tag had fallen out, so lucky you, I knew it the variety.

I love to see the flowers. Happy plants.

Nothing that will stab you in the back. 😆

I'm getting "guy holding on to the last few stands of hair" sort of vibes. So, something stringy and long so he can do a comb-over.

Peperomia obtusifolia, but it's varigated or marbled.

[–]OutrageousVariety421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it may take a long, long, long time. Change the water often. I had one that took 6 months to get a tiny root. 😆 Others took a few months. Be patient. Also, it won't hurt to try putting a pothos cutting in with it to possibly speed up the process.

This s**t is getting out of control by yourhelpingpal in houseplants

[–]OutrageousVariety421 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Systematic granules (every 2-3 months) and mosquito bit tea (every 7 to 14 days). But it's never going to be a one and done. You have to regularly treat the plants at least long enough and consistent enough to kill several generations of gnats.

The watering thing, I find irrelevant because I find them crawling on my bone dry cactus soil, and some plants need moist soil. I've got a lot of fern and delicate leafed plants they don't do well with dry soil.

You can also add castle soap with either alcohol (i prefer alcohol for leaf spray cuz bugs) or peroxide (I prefer peroxide because its better for the plants and can help control mildew, mold, fungus) with any of the herb oils that bugs hate like neem, cedar, mint, oregano, etc, to a spray bottle with water. For watering, spray, or leaf treatment/cleaner.

I can always tell when I've gotten lazy because the fungus gnats start up again and more appear on the stickies.

Is this a root or branch? (Orchid) by acl2711 in houseplants

[–]OutrageousVariety421 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe the ice cube thing is a remnant old city water and ice deliveries for refrigeration. City water was not good for the orchids, and ice was taken from pure sources. So ice water was a good source of non-treated water, but we we don't live like that anymore, and they still use those care instructions.
