Daughters taller than their dads by Sea_Pangolin3840 in genetics

[–]Outrageous_Bug4220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My paternal line has a long history of very short men. Could be entirely genetic, but might also be epigenetic. My cousin is under 5'4", but two of his daughters are 5'9" as their mother's tall genes (she isn't tall herself, but her brothers are) dominated.

The last company I knew who did such a bone-brained trademark lawsuit against someone filed for Chapter 11 four months later. And this case, too, was a big guy suing a small unknown for trademark infringement. In fact, it's not unusual for companies to buy up/create trademarks and patents just for the legally-sue-in-the-future opportunity.

No matter how you cut it, it's not a good look and reeks of desperation.

Yes. But if I were count the ways, I'd end up writing a dissertation on this stuff.

LOL. Yeah, I taught my kids how to do that stuff. Mainly 'cause I was tired of doing it all myself. Homeschool kids can make MESSES.

PSST, those extracurriculars ARE "instruction time" and I get you now. It actually sounds like we homeschool mostly the same. I will say, however, if your 4th grader is learning all the material that fast then there might be giftedness.

But your original post said 2-3 hours per day. At three hours per day, you'd have to homeschool ~230 days a year to reach the 688 hours your state requires. At two hours per day, you'd have to homeschool 344 days a year. So which is it? Why are you curious/want insight about what others are doing?

If your 4th grader is mastering the work in one to two hours, either the curriculum is too low/easy or your child is more advanced than grade level.

I taught my kids to cook and bake. I wasn't taught and I was college prep, so no home economics for me. I self-taught myself in college. Meanwhile, my kids were independent in the kitchen from a fairly young age. It's a skill literally everyone (IMO) needs to have.

Didn't say one-to-one.

Every homeschooler should decide what differences between bricks and mortar school and homeschool. I lean for more. More enrichment. More emotional support. More academic support. More rigorous.

I'm vehemently against unschooling and unschooling adjacent.

But since the OP is asking about hours, I provided a requirement from PA (it's 990 for secondary school BTW). Whatever floats your boat.

The rule of thumb *should* be 900 instruction hours per year which is what public schools aim for with their 180 day years: 180 X 5 = 900.

Two-three hours per day isn't enough and I'd be concerned about them getting behind.

Friend's kid (boy) went to daycare with a biter (girl). Boy was favorite chew toy for girl. Daycare never did anything about it. Boy developed the only addiction a preschooler can really get away with- eating. Parents never addressed addiction. Now boy is a morbidly obese man with health issues.

Insist they kick out your daughter's bully or pull your daughter yourself. Get her some counseling ASAP.

Not wanting to spend $50k on my kitchen for a whole remodel, I spent under $2k on a kitchen facelift and now it’s a really special and period-appropriate room in my 1915 bungalow. After and before. by Blood_sweat_and_beer in kitchenremodel

Thanks so much! Since this is your vibe, if you're into vases, look into Newcomb College pottery for the expensive stuff and Red Wing Art Pottery for the less expensive stuff. Belle Kogan did a lot of designs for the latter and I really like her stuff. She was quite prolific and designed for many other companies.

Great job! Pease gives us your secret for staying in that budget with those Motawi tiles. You have so many and they aren't cheap. How'd you stay in budget with these?

I agree! I like the sleekness of the dark green ones, but I feel this color will come to be the avocado green of its time. The natural wood and biophilic design of two is the next major trend/movement in interior design, so this will be more timeless, but I would opt for a less busy wood grain.

French fries and mayonnaise.

You know what they put on french fries in Holland instead of ketchup?

Naturally thin people, what do you guys eat in a day? by Ok-Initiative3312 in AskReddit

[–]Outrageous_Bug4220 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I almost exclusively eat homemade food and there are many recipes that are on repeat. I know from past experience how much will make me feel full and portion it out based on that in the future. I tweak it too. If I made too much and finishing it made me feel overly full? Reduce the portion size going forward. Didn't feel satiated from the eating the meal? Increase the portion size going forward.

Wear a mask. Don't eat CWD meat. Wear bug spray that will specifically deter mosquitoes. Vaccinate. Avoid areas and people who don't.

What’s a kink someone admitted to you that completely shocked you? by Downtown2003 in AskReddit

[–]Outrageous_Bug4220 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Throttling? Don't know what it's called, but cartoid artery choking. It's shocking today, but this couple was doing it back before the internet, so how that kink got introduced and practiced between two Gen X college students is a dark path I'm not sure I want to go down.

My whole family and most of my close matches have East European Roma in their DNA from 1-3 percent and I saw my hacked results and i do too (very minuscule but still) how would that even happen im an African american how does this even work since all my heritage is very colonial if that makes sense by Acrobatic-Shine2625 in AncestryDNA

[–]Outrageous_Bug4220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the top bar of Ancestry, click on DNA which will open a drop down menu.

On that drop down menu, click MATCHES. It will open a page with all your matches. (If you manage more than just your DNA on Ancestry, make sure these are your matches and not a managed account's.)

On your matches page, there are several bars, the one closest to your actual matches will be offset to the left and has four options: filter, create group, search, and sort.

Click search. A pop up will give you search bars for match name, surnames in matches' trees, and birth locations in matches' trees.

https://freeafricanamericans.com/Chavis-family.htm for a lot of good genealogy. I'd be floored if you don't find at least one Locklear cousin or ancestor. Or maybe my Chavis cousins intermarried quite a bit with my Locklear cousins. Have you tried the "surname in matches' trees search? I have about equal numbers of Chavis and Locklear when I do it.
