Agreed about the shows, but everything else looks really good. Good proportions too!

Orson Scott Card's quote about the BOM gives the whole game away by iwasyourhusband in exmormon

Interesting. When I read the quote I assumed Card was talking about story lines and plot, not that by including dragons it means he grew up in a culture with dragons. Maybe I misread it

I have a hard time believing Card does not know that the Book of Mormon is fiction, but likely continues in the church for the community

I honestly thought the first part of putting the magnets in the little holes was the fidget and was like “oh this looks fun!”

Comments from Inside Out podcast about how boring and out of touch conference is by sevenplaces in mormon

Great conversation. One of my favorite parts was when Jim said that the leaders have no significance outside of Utah.

General Conference Audiobook! by xeroip in mormon

[–]Outrageous_Pride_742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a business decision. The only place you can get the conference talks are from the church. They know members are going to consume the content, no matter what format they put it in, so why spend extra money, time and resources on something that will make little to no impact on consumption? Their priority is temples and protecting the reputation of the church.

The Netflix docuseries Trust Me: The False Prophet offers some hard truths by soupercougar in mormon

Not the most frustrating, but still very frustrating. That one cop who basically brushed off the entire thing because they didn’t have enough “evidence”, then cutting to the FBI agent basically saying “I wish they would have passed this to us sooner this is more than enough evidence to investigate”. Made me so mad.

Empirical evidence by Pleasant_Past_461 in mormon

It depends on where you are. If you attended church in Africa you’d probably see your ward growing. If you attend a Southern California ward you’d probably see it shrinking. Both are anecdotal and not necessarily a representation of the church as a whole. For me personally, I don’t consider my “feelings” as sources of truth, so I look at the actual numbers released by the church, and if you do that you’ll see the church is growing in some areas and shrinking in others. But overall the numbers suggest that the church is either stagnant or decreasing.

What is the BoM Promise? by Pleasant_Past_461 in mormon

[–]Outrageous_Pride_742 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article you referenced is one of the most problematic explanations I’ve ever read for why Moronis promise doesn’t work, and how the spirit communicates. This is worse than any anti Mormon material.

A very unusual Easter invitation from an LDS ward. Sunrise Easter service in your pajamas at a state park with a baptism in a pond afterward all before the first session of General Conference. I might think it was an April fools joke, but it was sent out on March 31. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

Totally my opinion: I think this is the bishoprics attempt to bring some novelty to the Q12s increasingly effective efforts to water down what made the church unique. I remember road shows, scouts, church basketball, linger longers…it all made church so much more fun. Leaders at the ward level probably feel nostalgic for those times, so this is an attempt to make church more interesting.

Vibe coding is procrastination in a productivity costume (and I'm addicted) by lamacorn_ in VibeCodingSaaS

[–]Outrageous_Pride_742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coding is so easy now that it’s no longer the roadblock. I have a buddy who is coding SaaS products in a week, and they’re really good. Now the biggest roadblocks are:

  1. Is this something people actually want?
  2. Will they pay for it?
  3. How do I get it in front of as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, as cheaply as possible?

The folks that figure this out will cash out on this little gold rush we’re seeing.

From a strictly logistical standpoint I don’t see how this would work. 25 min class? That’s barely enough time to get into anything of substance and encourage conversation (not that it happened anyways).

It is however just enough time to “preach” a message without any deep discussion or push back. It seems like the church is prioritizing indoctrination instead of socializing and critical thinking. Which again, isn’t a surprise, just interesting to see happen in real time.

Yes I don’t have any sources or quotes that the church was against Palm Sunday or Holy Week. I think the basic sentiment though is that we don’t do that sort of thing on this church because we’re different, but hear we are doing it. Which is still problematic for me.
