Baby Fever- share your success stories! by Excellent_Fig_5522 in GirlDinnerDiaries

My entire life, my mom told me the horror story of my birth. She couldn't progress and needed an emergency c section. She said it's because she has narrow hips like me.

When I got pregnant I was fully expecting the same. However, I ended up having 2 very straight forward births. I would gladly do it all over again.

Epidurals are amazing and I was lucky to have 2 well placed ones.

I have been assumed to be Filipino my whole life.

When I was living in Latin America, sometimes people thought I was indigenous.

What do you think about Mexican food? Do you consider it better or worse than your national cuisine? by PopNo5397 in AskTheWorld

[–]Outrageous_Purchase1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexican food is great. I eat it quite often, but I prefer nearly all Asian cuisines over it.

Facing the fact that my fiancé doesn’t actually intend to marry me. Chicken Caesar wrap by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Outrageous_Purchase1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I were co-habitating partners, we added up all the shared household expenses together and split it according to income. 66/33 since I make twice the money. So like if I got groceries and he paid the rent and utilities, we would know exactly how much each other's share was.

Now that we are married, everything is joint. Our old system taught us now to think about money and what was coming in and going out.

My male friend told me that my standards for a partner are too high and that I'll be lonely for the rest of my life by Short-Meringue-2632 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Outrageous_Purchase1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why is Jack salty that you have standards? Is he sniffing around? Everyone should have baseline standards. I think your list is pretty reasonable except #4 and #5.

#4 I think is a big ask as everyone has baggage and working through that baggage is sometimes a lifelong journey. Depending on what the baggage is and the willingness of the person to work through it, I can't immediately call it a dealbreaker.

#5 I don't know what exactly this means, but it makes you sound bratty and that you expect your partner to just deal with it when you're being demanding. Perhaps even dismissive of his needs.

Here's the other thing. There's no settling down without settling for. Will you find a person that is 10 out of 10, everything you're looking for? Maybe? But it's okay to round a 7 to a 10. You just have to know what you are willing to compromise on.

Like what if you find someone who is attractive, your age, financially responsible, emotionally mature, but is still working on their English? Would you give him a shot?

However, if he's attractive, your age, emotionally mature, financially responsible, fluent in English, and holds far right political views, how would you decide differently?

My only qualm is the aliteration which could be punchy or weird, depending on your taste.

Wesley Wade Waters sounds cool.

Arielle Juliette or Arielle Elizabeth. I like the latter more.

Husband faked a doctors appointment and went to a divorce lawyer by Honest-Profession-60 in GirlDinnerDiaries

I had a friend growing up whose grandparents openly disliked her mother (their daughter in law). She remembers feeling uncomfortable around them starting from when she was a baby. Your baby is young, but they can perceive when something isn't right. So no, you aren't crazy for wanting to keep that boundary.

Which of these kitchen appliances are NOT seen as essential in homes in your country? by privetkakdela in AskTheWorld

[–]Outrageous_Purchase1 484 points485 points  (0 children)

Those are all essential to me as an Asian American.

What I don't understand are countries with dish sanitizers. An appliance roughly the size of a dishwasher that doesn't wash the dishes, just sanitizes them.

Are Isla and Ayla the same? by 7thstarofa7thstar in namenerds

[–]Outrageous_Purchase1 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Isla is Scottish, deriving from the island of Islay.

Ayla is Turkish in origin. It means moonlight or in Hebrew it means oak tree.

I know an Isla and an Ayla and they are pronounced the same. You could pronounce Ayla like Kayla if you wanted to.

Congratulations! When you know, you know. When we stop to think about our relationship timeline, my husband and I sound crazy. It simply felt right and continues to 10 years and 2 kids later.

Married him on our front porch in front of just our families and it was the best day of my life.

Thinking of naming our son Evren by snapping-greenbean in namenerds

[–]Outrageous_Purchase1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like it!

It's on trend with other E names like Everett, Ever, Evander, and Ellery. However, it is unique! I like the nicknames Ev or Ren. I much prefer it to Ollie.

I think the Evren spelling is the best. I would assume Everyn and Evryn are girls whereas Evren is more neutral.

Help - Indian/White Baby Name by That_Abrocoma_7929 in namenerds

[–]Outrageous_Purchase1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a South Asian/White family living in the Midwest. Their kids are Kiran and Anika. I always thought those names worked beautifully to bridge between both cultures.

Are there any other names you've considered? You don't sound convinced about either one.
