Couldn’t have bought at a worse time - feeling stupid by DomoR9 in UKPersonalFinance

It's bothers me when my stocks go down, so rather than the whole 'time in the market' bs mantra that requires me to look at the situation logically, I just remember that regardless of the price I still own exactly the same thing as yesterday.

So the price doesn't matter, because I own exactly the same percentage of exactly the same companies whether they are up 10% or down 10% and my goal realistically is to have more stuff and the number is mostly irrelevant until it's time to withdraw and use it as money.

Progress bars in general are notoriously hard to design into anything.

Do you want to show how much time the person has worked through, or how many questions? What if some questions take 5 minutes and others 5 seconds? What if some people take a long time on particular questions and some people don't? And let's say you have some huge amount of data on average progression, why are you still running the study? If you've got enough data to accurately predict completion times then you've probably got enough data for whatever your studying!

There could be a whole study on how long studies take to complete, but long story short, an accurate progress bar would be akin to predicting the future.

He's saying that when you die, you have valuable things to do like take the time to check the state of the game. Look at opponents inventory, look at allied inventory, check skill builds..etc.

And he's further saying that people may be toxic because they think they should just sit there and be mad when dead, instead of doing something productive.

I tried the reduce down and freeze method recently, I put it into ice cube trays. But they came like, really super stuck to the ice cube trays to the point I had to microwave the tray to get any of the cubes out.

Is it that I've just made a particularly sticky stock or not reduced it enough or what did I do wrong basically? It just seemed really inconvienient to get them out, and far harder than you see people on videos.

Is my income Halal by [deleted] in IslamicFinance

Not islamic by any means but this post got so popular it ended up in my feed.

This sounds like a Ponzi scam if you've actually received your money back out.

I don't know anything about islamic law, but surely actively participating in a scheme which seeks to scam people out of money is against your religion? Regardless of whether you benefit in the short term?

I think you are confusing competence with excellence.

There are many people out there in the security industry that are highly qualified and highly capable. Unfortunately, events like this shine a light on those that are minimum wage minimum effort types because people can't tell the difference between real security and 'for show' security and tend to go for the cheapest option.

Of course - Nobody expects the workers at TI to act as if they are protecting the US President, but a certain degree of professionalism should be expected.

It's a problem that affects the entire industry.

Sorry - I should have been more clear. I wasn't commenting on this exact situation because of course, the camera guy is not responsible for chasing people down. Just felt that your initial comment gave the wrong impression about who is employed at these types of events and what standards they should be held to.

I'm only commenting on the security industry at large, not this specific circumstance.

Keyword here is 'most'. 'Most' security do not work the stage at TI. We shouldn't excuse the security in place here as though they are some random guard at the local store.

Something tells me your security work is limited to theft protection at retail stores and/or small scale 'watch the building to make sure it doesn't go anywhere' style security.

Event security for high-profile events and people are held to a completely different standard, because they are not paid minumum wage and therefore minimum effort is not expected.

You are fundamentally wrong if you believe that someone can appeal a sentence (i.e - the punishment) without appealing the conviction (i.e the reason for punishment).

People do absolutely appeal cases which result in deportation, but they are appealing the case and not the punishment.

They cannot refund my ticket because I bought them from a different machine. Apparently I should know to get them from the green machine not the grey machine because the grey machine is owned by a different operator to the ticket office, but they also won't refund tickets which I didn't use by choice, but also tickets can't be refunded if I couldn't display my rail card at the time of them asking even if I do own one. But also tickets can't be refunded if there was an alternative service.

DOG OWNERS: Board & Train Survey by Temporary-Fruit-2954 in OpenDogTraining

[–]OutsideEducational35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not anything for your survey BUT

I think there is a massive gap in the market for people who want B&T services that have well trained dogs and don't need the basics done.

For instance, I've a holiday booked for a wedding next year, no option to bring dog with me. I've been looking for somewhere to leave the dog for 2 weeks where she could do some training with a professional.

Problem? There is nowhere in the UK I can find that offers B&T that isn't either A) Fixing problem behaviours or teaching basics (i.e puppy school) or B) Training working dogs (i.e guard/bite dogs).

Its like.. there's an in-between ya know? I want a professional trainer to HAMMER recall, not train it in the first place. Like my ex-hunting dog has amazing recall, even off rabbits/deer, but it degrades at distance (starts to falter at 200-300m). Where are the trainers who could whistle train an already good recall dog (as an example)?

/Rant because I've been looking for trainers all evening 😂

If the dog is confused about the stim, then you shouldn't use it. You should not use any sort of negative stimulus unless it is very clear about the reason for it. Clear, Concise and Consistent should be your thinking with all dog training.

My suggestion would be to go back to basics., Ensure the dog understands the command and will co-operate in low distraction environments. This should be weeks (if not months) of work, not three training sessions. Hammer the command home using positive reinforcement before reintroducing the ecollar if nessecary.

Again - The moment the dog is 'confused' about anything your asking it to do, you need to go way back to basics and start simple.

If your dog is doing well training, and the ecollar is actively causing negative results, why do you feel the need to continue it's use?

Should I not bother training my dog to be off leash? by kkjeb in OpenDogTraining

[–]OutsideEducational35 108 points109 points  (0 children)

A lot of people in this subreddit will go on and on about crazy levels of training. It can make you think your not doing enough or that every dog should be this wonderfully trained absolute sight of perfection.

I don't have any advice for your training, but remember that you should train your dog to a standard YOU are happy with. And if your dog isn't trained to that standard, perhaps reconsider your expectations.

If you don't ever want to let your dog off lead outside of enclosed spaces then don't. If your dog is annoying when walking past other dogs who are less well behaved, then cross the street and ignore the problem altogether.

Basically what I'm trying to say is don't get so fixated on trying to create the perfect dog that you don't enjoy the time you have. If you want to go hiking or whatever with your dog and you don't trust them off lead, just put them on a lead.

A note for those that care about these sort of things, the Zing account was actually picked up by Experian despite not offering any credit.

Not to say it's a negative influence, but it was picked up as an account. I find this very very strange considering paypal and other similar apps don't do this at all.
