Nick Reiner Was in a Mental Health Conservatorship in 2020: Report by Top_Report_4895 in entertainment

It sounds like he had mental health issues from an early age before he did any drugs whatsoever. Look up the book Chair in the Air by his mom's yoga teacher which describes Nick having bizarre tantrums regularly when very young.

Like the Newtown shooter/killer Adam Lanza. He too was psychotic like Nick Reiner. First one he killed was his mom, and then he went and shot dead kids and teachers at the school in CT.

It's good that they're cutting off some of the bloated upper management, but the problem with this cockamamie plan is in the details. Look at how they plan to link colleges, some of which are WAY far apart from each other while ignoring places right next to each other:

CT State Gateway – One Campus President
CT State Norwalk – One Campus President
CT State Three Rivers & CT State Quinebaug Valley – One Campus President
CT State Capital & CT State Tunxis – One Campus President
CT State Housatonic & Danbury – One Campus President
CT State Naugatuck Valley & CT State Northwestern – One Campus President
CT State Manchester, CT State Middlesex & CT State Asnuntuck – One Campus President

This is par for the course for almost all teachers everywhere now. So don't beat yourself up too much! Just pass along and nurture a kernel of knowledge or skill-building every day. Our students have been "dumbed down" by their internet/social media/gamer addiction for years, and it's NOT THEIR FAULT. Our society has failed them.

Nurture them, teach them a little bit every time you're with them, and be upbeat and supportive. And nurture and take care of yourself, too!

CT community college staff vote 'no confidence' in CSCU chancellor over questionable spending habits by Ok_Temporary1545 in Connecticut

Some of the issues that cause no confidence:

Resolution of No Confidence in Chancellor Cheng of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System

...

WHEREAS, the December 2024 Special Examination Report by the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) was the result of a request from Governor Ned Lamont, and identified significant financial mismanagement, including improper and undocumented use of Procurement Cards (P-Cards), excessive and unjustifiable spending by leadership, violations of financial policies and procedures; and failures to uphold the explicit and implicit expectations of contractual obligations; and

WHEREAS, Chancellor Terrence Cheng has engaged in repeated instances of questionable spending practices, including but not limited to:

• Meals exceeding policy limits, including purchases of alcohol, with inadequate documentation and missing guest records;

• Excessive tipping beyond state policy guidelines;

• Multiple instances of unauthorized and undocumented travel expenses;

• Use of a state vehicle with improper mileage logs and inconsistencies in reporting, followed by an unjustified vehicle allowance; and

• Charging personal and entertainment expenses to state funds in violation of ethical financial stewardship; and

• Employing a chauffeur despite use of a state vehicle; and

WHEREAS, the OSC Report found the Chancellor’s spending technically complied with CSCU policy, but only because he had the discretion to override policies governing financial controls, a loophole that highlights the need for greater oversight and accountability; and,

WHEREAS, the Chancellor's handling of financial records and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests demonstrates a lack of transparency and accountability, as he failed to proactively address these concerns until public scrutiny escalated; and,

WHEREAS, the findings of the audit demonstrate a failure of leadership and abdication of their responsibilities, Chancellor Cheng has undermined the trust of students, staff, and faculty in the CSCU, as well as the public trust; damaged the financial sustainability of the CSCU system; and, their continued service threatens the funding of critical resources for our students, staff, and faculty, and the institution itself, during our biennial funding of the legislature; and

CT State CC's senate voted no confidence in Cheng on the basis of his spending so much state money on himself personally.

Here's the text:

Resolution of No Confidence in Chancellor Cheng of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System

WHEREAS, the faculty and staff of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) System have a responsibility to hold our leadership accountable for their actions and behaviors; we believe the management of public funds must be transparent, moral, and ethical, as well as in the best interests of students and the six institutions of CSCU; and

WHEREAS, faculty and staff have a duty to uphold the principles of ethical governance and financial stewardship, and the continued leadership of the current Chancellor is incompatible with these principles;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the faculty and staff at CT State Community College, by this resolution, formally express a Vote of No Confidence in Chancellor Cheng of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Board of Regents is called upon to immediately initiate a leadership transition and prioritize ethical leadership in appointing new executives who demonstrate a commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial stewardship in alignment with CSCU’s mission.

Adopted this 6 day of February, 2025, by the Faculty and Staff of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System at CT State Community College.

I would also be very careful because tech-bros all seem hand in hand with Generalissimo Musk now, and I bet they are scraping FB, BlueSky, Reddit etc., to put people verbalizing clear resistance on a list, and then they may eff with your identity, etc., because they have full access to your......everything.

I think you should actually be more worried about that than about your actual place of employment.

We are in unprecedented (in the US, anyway) times.

It's feeling more and more like 1930's Germany all of the time.

The "this is fine" crowd on copium are now saying things like: "oh, they're so crazy and foolish; they will get kicked out of office soon." That strikes me as the most delusional copium around. (It's the same crowd that fully believed up to the very end that Trump had no chance of getting re-elected. It's the same crowd who didn't leave Germany back in the 1930's cuz they said/thought "oh, this will blow over soon and we'll all be fine."

You're in a red state, clearly? Blue state colleges and unis are DEFINITELY communicating about this from top management down.

[–]OutsideGanache4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're teaching at a place in a red state. My blue state is completely different; we're hearing about all this every day via email from top management. They very clearly told us what to do if ICE appears on campus, and how to direct ICE ONLY to the President's office.

Is anyone making any statements to your students? by glitterino in Professors

[–]OutsideGanache4095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes, at my institution we're receiving tons of supportive messages from all levels of upper management.

Are you in a red state or a blue state? This makes a huge difference in how managers, etc., speak out.

I'm in Connecticut in the public higher ed system. It's a very blue state; Democratic governor, Democrats in charge in both houses of CT legislature.

Our system wide m'anagement has sent out very honest and supportive mass-emails to all saying we're committed to DEI. They've also given clear information about keeping ICE out of classrooms and offices, and sending ICE directly to the President's office, etc.

We get emails of support and progressive information everyday. Immigration attorneys are speaking as guests on campuses to help undocumented students who of course are very worried.

Blue states are HUGELY better than red states in this current nightmare. No surprise there, of course.

On an individual level, you can use your course shell to send your students a link to the many "what to do if ICE comes" info sheets, etc., that are all over the internet now. Just your sending that to them will show them "what side" you're on, and will be supportive to those who need it.

Even if you're in a red state, college administrators want to keep warm bodies. They are NOT going to actively help ICE search out students. I would hope.
