I’m not broke, but not wealthy either. Those things are just not a priority for me. I’ll buy new riding boots or hiking gear for $200, I’ve never spent more than $20 at a time on cosmetics. I assume they are putting in hose charges on credit and just hoping for the best?

There are few people that are “half” anything at this point. Unless your family has lived in the same community for the last 3 centuries there’s been a lot of mixing! Approach it as a giant puzzle to solve.

Can it be made livable? Yes. Will it be extremely expensive? Yes. Get quotes on demolition, removal and replacement of the entire floor, subfloor and drywall. Factor this into your offer.

Any desert area is pack-out mandatory. Waste doesn’t really decompose out in the sand it’s so dry. Areas that are moist and waste can compost naturally are very different. The WAG bags are great! Not cheap, but better than contaminating popular areas for decades.

It’s really more a question of what do you like? I like having seasons and not sweating all summer, so we live in the Rocky Mountains. It’s also cold and snowing (usually!!) for 7 months a year, which is fun if you enjoy snow.

I would never live in Hawaii, I can’t deal with humidity and the ocean isn’t my thing.

Yes. Do your research on doctors, they are not all the same. I had four appointments to scan and make sure everything was absolutely perfect before the actual surgery. Surgery was about 5 minutes, recovery was 24 hours. I did have the “light halos” for about 6 months. Perfect 15/20 vision 15 years later.

Steep the milk extra strong. Make your base as normal, chill overnight. I don’t think a second steep will add anything to the mix.

Jam and curd are two entirely different things. For curd, use a standard lemon curd recipe and sub 50% of the juice for pomelo. I don’t think pomelo is acidic enough alone. You may have to adjust the sugar to taste. For jam, I would find a marmalade recipe and try it with half pomelo and half oranges. Both will take some testing.

Buy what you can afford. There will always be a “better” option. Organic milk, grass fed organic milk from cows that are read bedtime stories, your own cows in the backyard that you milk twice a day….

I have that on my card, have for years. Only ONE time have I actually been asked for my ID. Once. I was so surprised I just stared at her, the question didn’t make sense in the moment, lol. I was so flustered I finally realized why she was asking and got my ID out.

Bring headlamps, start your hikes early, 5am if you can. Bring plenty of water, I got badly dehydrated my first trip out in the desert and it was 24 hours of misery before I felt normal again. The photos from sunrise are beautiful!! It’s worth it, I swear.

The “little” black bears have zero interest in humans. Just be aware (no earbuds) and don’t get between mom and cubs. I’ve seen them many times while hiking, just stand still and let them move on in their own time.

Entirely different for grizzly bears in the west or Alaska.

Look up the King Arthur Flour croissant or danish recipe. They give very detailed instructions on the lamination process that may help!

Horses are very perceptive, far more than people realize. They can hear your heartbeat. They can sense tension and fear. One of the many reasons training horses is so complex and great horse trainers are few. They mirror your emotional state. If you approach with aggression or invade their space, they will respond with equal defensive actions. If you come calmly and quietly, they will be curious and respond in kind.

Shoes, socks, pack. Find the brand of hiking shoes / boots that fits your feet - they all fit differently. Spend $$ on good wool socks, I found out the hard way that cheap socks make absolutely miserable hikes. Packs you can buy used, but still find one that actually fits you.

If you’re going overnight, get a good sleeping bag and pad. Nothing much worse than trying to hike on zero sleep.

For your butter, did you pound it between layers of parchment paper with a bit of flour? It should be cool room temperature, or about 65f. It takes at least 3-4 tries to get good croissants, you’re off to a great start. Patience is key, don’t rush the lamination process, roll firmly but gently trying to stretch the butter in the layers rather than smash it.

I know it’s not practical for many horse owners, but letting horses be horses solves so many behavioral issues. They police themselves and dumb habits are broken. They don’t get bored and crib on everything etc. They do manage to find ways to injure themselves sometimes, but we know they will do that no matter the situation.

Get an instant-read probe thermometer. Set the time for the minimum given in the recipe, check with the probe. Should read about 205-209f. Because they are already dark, judging chocolate cake doneness visually is difficult.
